I did like Hal in Emerald Dawn, since he actually seemed like an interesting character to me. Same with New Frontier. Rather than being just another cardboard cutout good guy with occasional authority issues, and whose solution to every problem was punching it in the face, the Hal Jordan in those particular stories seemed like a real human being.
Even so, similar to what I said earlier regarding Barry Allen, I think Hal was a better character dead than he was alive. Or at least much more interesting and with more potential to stand out from the crowd. I thought Hal made for a pretty cool Spectre, with unique ties to Earth's superhero community, and whose quest for redemption was something very intriguing, which we'd had the privilege of seeing every step of the way and experiencing it with the character at different personal levels over the years.
My dislike for Hal only really starts when he was brought back to life, had his more interesting backstory retconned away, and put up on a pedestal above the other (better) Lanterns.
