Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

Sony dates 'Carrie' remake for March 2013

Sony has set a March 15, 2013, opening for "Carrie," MGM's remake of Stephen King's horror tale. Chloe Moretz will star in the title role that made Sissy Spacek famous in 1976. Directed by Kimberly Peirce ("Boys Don't Cry") and scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, story centers on a shy high-school student who uses her newly discovered telekinetic powers to exact revenge on her classmates.
MGM's planning to start shooting the reboot this summer. "Carrie" will open against Relativity's comedy "21 and Over," starring Justin Chon, Miles Teller and Sarah Wright.
MGM, which emerged from a pre-packaged bankruptcy in late 2010, has opted to partner with other distributors for its films. It tapped Sony last fall to distribute "Skyfall" and the following James Bond film.

The girl from Ketchum's The WOMAN should play Carrie. She was amazing in that.

I wonder if I can trick some naive girls I know into thinking that this film is a Sex & the City prequel so that they go see it and have nightmares for the rest of eternity.

Julianne Moore In Talks For Mother Role
Bloody Disgusting got exclusive inside word that Columbia Pictures is speaking closely with Julianne Moore (pictured below) for the titular role. Moore is no stranger to the genre having starred alongside Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal and has also played Lila Crane in the Psycho remake. She is currently working on the exorcism fantasy The Seventh Son for Warners.
Chloe Moretz stars as Carrie in the reboot going behind cameras for a March 13, 2013 release.
The thriller is “An adaptation of the Stephen King thriller about the hyperkinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students.” King’s bestselling book was turned into the 1976 film that starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Amy Irving and Piper Laurie as the repressive mother.

I could see that.

even though I stand behind my signature, I am intrigued by this remake Chloe will probably be a GREAT Carrie, so I am still on the fence will probably wait for a trailer to tell for sure.

Earlier this week, CEO of MGM Roger Birnbaum paid a visit to his alma mater, the University of Denver, to speak with its film history and production classes and apparently dropped a few hints about his studio's upcoming Carrie redo.

We already know that writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and director Kimberly Peirce are developing the film more as an adaptation of Stephen King's novel and less a remake of the 1976 film. With that in mind, Birnbaum has implied that the new movie will feature found footage segments to be interspersed throughout.

This would actually be in keeping with King's original source material. If you look at the book, it's strewn with various "official" documents recounting the events of Carrie's disastrous prom night -- a literary technique known as epistolary, which is pretty much the written equivalent to found footage. However, this will likely be done through a series of interviews framing the story as opposed to the traditional POV style that we've grown accustomed to over the last several years. But only time will tell how these scenes will be visually interpreted.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that oft-mentioned contender Julianne Moore has been formally offered the role of Carrie's (Chloe Moretz) fanatical mother. The film opens March 2013

I was hoping they'd try to emulate this and I imagined that documentary style interview clips would be a good way of making the transition from book to film. Just keeps getting better and better, I have high hopes for this one my friends.

They could do this movie District 9 style it would be a great way of adapting the book I just finished the book a day ago and man that first scene in the shower was really gross to me sometimes the imagination pictures things ten times worse lol.

Thanks. I don't know how I feel about Gabriella Wilde as Sue; I felt she was one of the worst things about 3 Musketeers.

I liked Alex Russell in Chronicle. Don't know about about Ansel Elgort, though.

It was just a matter of time before they got to this movie on the "re-make" list. :)

It's not a remake. And I like the two actors cast as Billy and Tommy.

its not a remake until the movie is out. then you see that they copied scenes from the first movie and used the same dialoge. they promote it as the true real adaptation of the book.

Everything is either a reboot or re-adaptation of the orginal source material these days. Remake is a dirty word. I trust that they'll add some homages to the original considering that's what fans wanna see, but I doubt it'll be a shot for shot remake.
