Yeah just comparing the Georgie scene. One has massive, horrifying pay-off, lifted from the book, another has a close-up of PW's face, and a whimper of a scene transition. How the miniseries has any clout beyond Curry is beyond me. Nostalgia?
I don't want any famous names in the adult roles. What made the kids work is I had never seen any of them before besides Richie. If you cast Bill Hader, it'll be hard for me to see anyone but Bill Hader.
My two favorite lines from this movie both came from Richie and they were
"Do only virgins see this ****" and "This mothereffer is leaking hamburger helper" LMAO!!!
Finn Wolfhard really is a foul mouthed little **** in this movie, and while a character like that usually isn't all that likeable I have to admit he had me and my audience laughing pretty damn hard. I know he was in Stranger Things, but I never knew the kid had that much range.
Just got back from seeing it, I loved it. That was quite possibly the most tense movie going experience of my entire life. Not once was I able to sit and relax while watching.
I do have a few minor quibbles though:
[blackout]- I thought they played the NKOTB joke one step too far with the poster.
- The way they beat IT in the mini series was better with the sling shot and the rocks.
- I really missed "this is battery acid you slime" in this version
- Mike and Stan weren't given as much to do as everyone else. Mike especially.[/blackout]
I tell you what did surprise me, how much the CG didn't bother me or take away from the scares.
Skarsgard was fantastic as Pennywise. I got a real Freddy Krueger vibe off him too (not a bad thing.
Of the kids Richie and Eddie were my favourites.
IT was a thrill ride from start to finish. I'm unsure how well it will hold up on rewatches but the first experience we certainly a special one.
Stephen Kings It has been released in 46 markets and is breaking opening first day records already in some key countries. It has grabbed $16.1M so far on 10,560 screens bringing its running cume up to $25.7M for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. It has logged the biggest opening day ever for a horror film in the U.K., Brazil, Russia, Australia, Holland and across Eastern Europe. In Spain, the grosses for the movie were more than double of The Conjuring and Annabelle and it logged the biggest opening day for a Warner Bros. film this year.
If they don't like the book why even review the film? Its just more of what you don't like. I think reviewers need to start staying away from things they have a bias against. If I remember he didn't like The Shining mini series but liked the movie.
The studio that gave us A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Conjuring horror franchises has created another milestone for the genre with their feature adaptation of Stephen Kings It, which is now on course to slot the best opening day ever for an R-rated and horror title with an estimated $51M (easily smashing Deadpools $47.3M) and the second best R-title three-day between $103.4M-$108M, behind Deadpools $132.4M. In addition, for any post-summer title opening before November, Its weekend is higher than anything released prior in September or October.
With no signs this AM of It slowing down (East Coast sales are brisk) and with good holds expected for tonight, some longtime box office observers are thinking this film could even float up to $120M by the time the screaming stops late Sunday.

Job responsibility i guess. Fans asking him to do it since they found his miniseries review entertaining. Right i forgot about that, though considering how different the Shining film is from King's story i guess it was easy to forget that fact.
Even if you don't end up loving the movie it's still very much worth seeing on the big screen at least once for the experience alone. I had such a fun audience yesterday even though their were a lot of kids and teenagers. They reacted in all the right ways and I felt fortunate enough to not have to deal with any obnoxious a-holes. It's not going to be the same everywhere unfortunately, but it's worth taking a chance IMO.
