If that's from the actual movie, I really wish I hadn't seen that.

That's enough of this thread till the release now. lolz

Deadline now says that the film is tracking closer to a $60M opening weekend, while its sister site Variety is being more conservative with $50M.

If it sticks to the higher end, that's highly impressive. I would say it's tracking similarly to Deadpool (three weeks prior, DP was tracking for $55M), and it could really pop on the weekend if it delivers the goods.
I'm going to throw my hat in and say that a 70-80 OW is likely.

I feel like that's a manip. I've seen it before on Google Images.

It's great to hear the terrific tracking numbers, even though, given all the hype, they're not terribly surprising. It would be amazing if this could be a Deadpool level hit!

Nobody should compare this film to Deadpool when it comes to the box office.

Horror films are typically front-end loaded (heavily so) and aren't known for having legs. Even the most well-reviewed films. Quality doesn't typically equal a huge explosive box office run the same way it does for a superhero film (R-rated or not).

The Conjuring is a good example. Even with its amazing reviews and word of mouth, it only had a 3.5x multiplier (41m opening weekend, $137 final domestic run). That's great for a horror film, and incredibly rare, but overall it's an average multiplier for "big films" in general.

I think the safest expectation right now is a 3x multiplier off the opening weekend. No idea what that opening will look like. Will it be 50m? Will it be 80m? Will it be less or more than either of these numbers? It's also heavily going to rely on reviews. But regardless, I would expect you'll see a massive Friday number, and a steady drop to Saturday and Sunday, typical of a horror film. The midnights will inflate the Friday quite a bit.

Still I think we could see the first 200m horror film in a long time.

Whether that was a manip or not, these 2 are just as terrifying. Did 18th century clowns really dress like that? No color at all.

Whaaaat? Does this movie have early negative critical buzz? It's one of my most anticipated movies this year.

Why, though? Director of Mama + troubled production + Studio that sucks working with IP.

The amazing trailers, mostly. And interest in the property/concept. It has a lot of buzz so I'm hoping it's not going to be a disappointment.

What I want to know is shouldn't these guys be under an embargo?

Either they're lying their asses off or they broke the embargo wide open. Given how amateur their quality is I think they're just trolling for clicks. If they did break the embargo they'll probably get kicked from future screenings. What a bunch of dip****s.

Usually when you get into advanced screenings especially those hosted by previewfreemovies etc then you have to sign a pretty terrifyingly threatening NDA. I have no clue who those two guys are tbh. So I can't really comment on their track record.

Benal only showing up to s***-stir with a negative review? I'm shocked. :o

I checked with a critic buddy of mine out in LA. He hasn't not gotten word about advanced screenings yet and hasn't heard of anyone in his circle who've seen the film yet. He's thinking advanced screenings will be around September 5th-ish. Those guys are 100% full of ****. 100%.

From what I know you also are not allowed to bring any phones into early screenings, if you pulled out a cellphone during an early screening security would throw your ass out in a heartbeat. Can't even have one inside the seating area.

Yep. Too many redflags. They showed their advanced screening ticket, but they didn't show the title. They're just fishing for clicks.

Even if I didn't have any doubt on whether they were legit or not, that wasn't even a good review. I'm not even just saying that because I want the movie to be good, but for people who made it a point to remind the audience they've been reviewing movies for at least over a year (and apparently once a day), the review was very amateur. The way they were talking made it seem more like a first reaction, or general thoughts you'd give to a friend if they asked you a couple of weeks after the movie had been released. None of that seemed like a well thought out review that they spent time thinking about. I've seen forum posts more realized than that review.

That said I'll take what they said with a little bit of salt, and am going in cautiously. I'm not really a huge horror film fan (mostly because I'm not easily scared so they kind of don't appeal to me), so I do have reservations. The film looks really good, and I'm hoping that worst case scenario I look at this like I do the two Conjuring films. Very well made and compelling films, that while I don't find them scary, I do thing they're really good films.

Also it was really awkward when those two guys were talking about how its cycle with their reviews. Felt weird and unnecessary to put in, and they used a very easy example of a controversial film, granted I don't remember anyone being suprised that Batman vs Superman had mixed reviews.
