As someone who's seen IT 3 times now, hell no. Don't get me wrong, he is brilliant in it, however he wasn't given enough to do in the film, in my opinion. Also don't think they hand out best actor awards to horror. If they did, Robert Englund should have won it in 84.

Even I haven't seen the film but he's not even getting a nomination let alone win an Academy award for his turn as Pennywise. The praise for the cast is evenly distributed among Jaden Lieberher, Finn Wolfwhard, Sophia Lillis and Bill Skarsgard. He's not getting super special raves and that puts any Oscar chances to the backburner.

If anything, 'IT' has chance to land a nomination for the 'Makeup & Hairstyling' award. Maybe a nomination for the 'Cinematography' as well because I've seen it being singled out as one of the strongest aspects of the movie.

I don't think Bill has a chance at a nod, however I do feel his presence is felt throughout the film and is the closest thing we've seen to a modern day boogeyman, since Englund's Fred Krueger.

No. He was terrific, but it's not that type of performance.

Can't wait to see this tomorrow. I usually have a weak resolve for spoilers, but that first trailer sold me like no other movie has so I want to go in as clueless as possible. Glad to hear you all are enjoying it!

I saw mention that the budget for this was only something like 35 million. This thing is going to be hugely profitable. Between this and Baby Driver, following up from Deadpool, I hope that Hollywood recognizes that you can make R rates films for responsible budget and make bank.

It doesn't even have to be R Rated low to mid budget movie. Just make a good movie and market it well and you'll be fine.

I've looked at a variety of films with similar robust late night numbers... $95M to $100M opening weekend for IT is very likely unless it's very front-loaded.

And for those saying, "well, it's September, it can't get to $100 million o.w.!" -- look at the first Hunger Games (March 2012) and Deadpool (February 2016) for proof that records can be broken while kids are in school.

I consider Chris Pratt and Jessica Chastain could be worthwhile candidates for Ben and Bev respectively. If admittedly fairly expensive choices.

I'm trying to think of actors who would play the rest.

Pratt is going to be too expensive, New Line will want to make IT: Chapter 2 for around the same ballpark as this one. Chastain is close with the Muschiettis (and worked with them on Mama), I can see her cutting her fee to play the older Beverly.

Seeing as the director said he wants to explore the more supernatural side of Pennywise, as well as the expected financial success of this film, it's safe to say the budget for chapter 2 will be a little bigger

I think 80 is the ceiling for this now I just think the Hurricane is going to hurt the opening weekend.

No doubt that IT: Chapter Two is going to get a much bigger budget. I’m thinking a $70 million budget for the sequel. After watching Chapter One, I’m dying to see what Andy Muschietti does with Chapter Two.

But man, I really hope Chapter Two gets a brilliant cast. The kids were so good and so well cast that I hope each character gets the best actor for it. At this point, the only way Jessica Chastian doesn’t get cast as Beverly is through scheduling conflicts or she gets pregnant.

Also, Bill Hader as Richie would be a stroke of genius, especially seeing how Finn Wolfhard played the character as a kid.

Even if Pratt wanted to do the film, he'll most likely be shooting GOTG Vol. 3 next summer.

Zod freaking damn, I missed the pre-view number as I was busy with some other stuff but this is abso-f**kin-lutely gigantic. IIRC, Paranormal Activity 3 had the highest pre-views for a Horror movie at somewhere between (8-9) million. 'IT''s pre-views are bigger than Wonder Woman (13.5 million >>11.2 million). This is insanity.

This is actually not a bad cast, minus Molly Ringwald (who is way too old to play Bev) and Matt Damon, who is way too big a profile actor to play Ben. I also think Chadwick Boseman might be too handsome to be Mike, who is sort of an every man, fade into the woodwork, character.
