Since we'e talking Nolanverse, you've got the wrong "Black Face".

I like to think that while travelling the world, Bruce was helped by David Cain. Then he gave instructions on how to find David in the bag he gives Blake. After TDKR, Blake goes to train with him but finds him dead and ends up training under Cassandra.

My issue with thinking of Blake as Nightwing (which i tend to do most of the time) is that i feel it robs Dick Grayson. Only Tim Drake is Red Robin, and only Dick is Nightwing. We have many Robins and Batmans so it's OK. But what if a Nightwing film were to happen? And it's not Dick Grayson? Doesn't feel right.

He's not a killer so i dont think of him as becoming Red Hood or Azrael.

My imagination doesn't lead me to "oh Batmans gonna come back to help out Robin" because that means Rises was meaningless. And how does that relationship end?? With bats retiring once again and giving the full mantle off to Robin eventually?? It's just repeating the TDKR ending.

So in my mind Robin John Blake is his own hero who trains with Lady Shiva (or Bruce) and that's it. Or he's a version of Batman Beyond without copying Terry's exact suit. Fully trained.

-In the Nolan-verse Blake is essentially Robin, so I don't see an issue with making him nightwing, I know the point of the movie is "anyone can be batman" but really unless you can fight like him, the criminals will wise up, if blake starts using firearms and stuff to kill people, then he truly is not Batman.

-To me you're not repeating TDKR ending, Batman disappears many times only to return for one reason or another. In my version Batman does not stay retired, he is there to mentor Blake and challenge him to earn the Batman title. He will train him and because Gotham needs Batman, Bruce returns, because once the evil forces figure out Nightwing/Blake is not the same Batman it will rise again.

It can also be a chance to introduce a new batman

IMO not using the ending to build ANYTHING would be so dumb

You are repeating the end of TDKR each time you imagine Bruce returning to the cowl. Whether it's to lead Nightwing or if he finds Blake dead and then finds some orphan boy named Dick Grayson who he then dubs "Robin"...it ends the same way.

Bruce will still have to put it down once again. When he does, he'll be letting a fully trained Blake rise up or another kid in the future.

You can use the ending to build on something. But that something will have to be Blake's Batman. If Bruce comes back then fine, but not to suit up. More or less to become the new Lucius Fox or something.

I'll give an example. Let's say Joker gets woken up from some catatonic state in Arkham after hearing about Batman coming back from the dead. He breaks out and figures out how Blake isn't the true Batman. Whether John has training or not, Joker kills him. Bruce comes back for the funeral and puts the cape & cowl back on. He shuts down someone like Penguin on his way to Joker..whatever. After another long battle with his greatest foe, he's getting older and eventually needs to hang it up. He has the option of finding a boy in Wayne Manor (new school for orphans) to be a side-kick or a successor. With training, etc. No matter what you have a retirement story on ur hands and a future successor ONCE AGAIN because Gotham needs somebody just incase.

One of the issues the film has and maybe this belongs in the "what you would change in hindsight" thread but Bruce's retirement is problematic because he seems in really good shape when he returns. In fact, other than the first Bane fight we never see him struggle as Batman. We really needed to see that he isn't in his prime as Batman, it would make his retirement easier to understand other than wanting to be happy - he also literally can't do it anymore. When he makes it out of the pit, it seems he has become stronger than ever so it's kinda weird for him to just stop at that point.

After multiple viewings, you can interpret that ending to mean a lot of different things. It's possible Bruce has faked his death and left the cave to Blake to watch over it while he lives his life with the intention of coming back as Batman with a Robin if it's ever necessary again.

You can interpret it that way, but i dont have a problem with Bruce coming back as the Batman if something were to happen that called for his expertise. I was just talking about how to end a future story. No matter what, Bruce is going to have to retire even he comes back one more time. And somebody will need to carry that torch...which leads to repetition. So im not sure it would ever be worth it.

"Mayor Blames Batman" and "Mayor May Have Exploded" are my favorite lines out of that, lol.

And 10 and 12 are just trying way too hard. No body would be found of Batman anyways if he stayed inside The Bat which was right above the bomb.

Despite the many things I like to believe happened in the trilogy, I understand why it was made the way it was.

the beginning - origin, Ra's as first villain, theme of fear
Batman defeats indifference and corruption
the middle - climax, Joker as most integral villain, theme of chaos
Batman defeats organized crime and psychopathy
the end - conclusion, Bane as final villain, theme of pain
Batman defeats extortion and terrorism

I like to believe many things happen behind the scenes of the films and in between the films themselves, but in showing us a trilogy of The Dark Knight's story. I think Nolan did things exactly the way he should have.

I believe that Batman was still active for some time (say five months) after the events of TDK, that is did did not abandon his crime fighting even though he was wanted by cops but he was aware that soon he will have to give up being Batman.

Many cops would not have sen him operate as Batman as he was working at night, and even if some saw him they are not admitting it, as there would be few sympathizers.

Unpopular opinion: after Bane took over Gotham the Joker got loose looking for Batman, only to have Bane snap his neck and leave him in a dumpster (Daggett style) as part of Bane's private desire to prove that, contrary to whatever Ra's thought at the time of excommunicating him, that he really was the better man all along by killing the monster Batman refused to kill.

I would like to believe that Bruce Wayne isn't some wimp who cant muster to be Batman because his g/f died, even though his whole purpose of being Batman was cause his parents died.

So he went and stopped petty criminal activity just in a ski mask or something, just not in the Batman suit. Cause if he really did give it up for 8 years, then it makes me kinda get more and more pissed off with TDKR than I already am.

Yeah, that doesn't qualify for things one would "like" to believe because the "he quit because he was sad about his girlfriend" theory doesn't hold. He quit because he wasn't needed. The movie flat out tells us that he does want to be Batman and is in fact just waiting for the opportunity to come back.

I feel his quitting was multi-faceted, personally. It's not just one reason. There's obviously a lot of weight on his mind.

It's not just Rachel, it's not just his not being needed. It's both of those, and more. He became an outcast. He had to have felt horrible about Harvey. The Joker essentially won, and I'm sure that was eating up at him privately.
