I don't have a problem with changes and adaptations these days but man, does that remind me of why stuff in the pre JLU DCAU stuck in my craw when I was younger. They had that female Samurai character that was pretty much the DCAU's Katana... But she wasn't Katana, cuz... Well there is no good reason why not. Or on the Superman toon, "Hey, let's have a character that is a Kryptonian General that was sentenced to the Phantom Zone, gets free and threatens Earth... But we won't call him Zod, we'll make him pretty much Zod but we'll call him by another Silver Age character's name. Fans will like that, right?"

I do dig that artwork though. The TASK FORCE X episode of JLU is perfection.

I really like the JLU's Not-Katana costume. It cleverly blends Samurai armour and the rising sun motif with a classic superheroic leotard and domino mask.
