I'm just afraid this movie is going to steer this universe away from what makes it unique.

That's a fallacy, I think. Shying away from fantasy or weird humor would steer this film away from what makes the SS unique. What works for a Superman origin ("This is the 1st supernatural thing ever, let's be straight-faced about this") would be horribly counterproductive for a concept like the Squad, which should feel wackier. That's always a risk with a shared universe, it's great that they're sidestepping it.

These filmmakers only need to worry about "realism" as it pertains to the internal logic of the world they've created.

The world you see in Man of Steel, BvS, and Suicide Squad is not the same world we live in. Different rules apply.

Just like The Batman version, no shoes. I understand Joker's "crazy" but I'd like to think he'd wear shoes. I'm just saying.
