I'm sure they used some cgi to improve mobility and integration of the makeup and prosthetics. It's rare these days that heavy makeup and prosthetics in films arent touched up with some cgi.
Keep in mind that the best cgi is the cgi you can't see, and it's used all over the place in films and most of the time things you think are 100% cgi free are not cgi free.
That reminds of that youtube video about modern CGI in films that Freddie Wong made some months back, surprised how much unoticable CGI there is in films.


You can never get a truly realistic looking monster unless you're prepared to spend a lot on physical 10-15 foot specimen that could do the stuffs that Doomsday did in BvS.
