Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 18

Man, I was already hyped for SS, then I watched Fury and was blown away by Ayer's work. He really writes believable characters and interactions.

Then trailer 2 comes out last night and holy $h!t. This movie looks incredible! Harley has done great scenes, Joker looks scary as f***, and Batman looked great!

My favorite part about this movie is that I have no idea what's going to happen!
Aaaaaand it comes out on my birthday! What what!!!

A guy, who places Dark Knight Rises on the second place in his list of best CB films, is talking about bad writing and pacing of BvS... Very funny.

You can believe all you want. It doesn't change the fact that TDKR got a pass for poor writing, terrible pace, plot holes, weak motivations, gimmick plot twists, terrible logic, lack of exposition, moments of horrible acting. And BvS was crucified for lesser.
What?
I see people who tell stories of interactions with others, and with these interactions they can strongly relate to that plot twist, they don't literally get stabbed, but still. Such situation happens too often in real life to be a plot gimmick.

So, who do you think is going to die in SS?

I guess one is obvious :)

But what about the others?

Whi do you think is safe?

Do you think they'll kill more characters now to bring more characters later in SS2?

Slipknot's definitely a goner, and if I had to guess, Rick Flagg is too. I wouldn't be shocked if El Diablo and Enchantress kick the bucket either. But I think Harley, Deadshot, Boomerang, Killer Croc, Katana and the Joker are all safe.

What a mess of a trailer. It just doesn't look like it knows what it wants to be. Clearly it's darker which is fine, but this trailer is just making it look like something else. You can tell this was cut within the week to curtail BVS's box office degradation. The poor editors. I'm just about to give up on this movie until I see Leto's Joker is still impressing me. Right now, my interest is gone but I hope the reviews are great.

Never understood that critique of a film or a trailer.

I guess someone should make a terrible light-hearted comic book film for critics to switch their cans.

There have been plenty lately, and most of them have had good reviews. The critical consensus seems to be that, within this genre, you can bust a nut making a movie that is cerebral, melancholy, and perfectly structured like TDK, or you can make something that is as dumb as **** but silly enough to allow the critics to retain their superiority complex and adjudge it to be sufficiently entertaining for the little people. Fall between the two and you are in trouble.

not asking for unnecessary humor but yes every super hero film needs levity

The Marvel Movie Factory clearly agree. I don't. You are arguing that all CBMs should be essentially the same. How tedious! Why can't they be as varied and as diverse as comics themselves? Would be appropriate to make a movie based on A Serious House on Serious Earth and fill it with Marvelesque quips and one-liners?

But it clearly IS Marvel influenced.
I agree it feels a bit different to the MCU, which is good, but...
This new trailer is quip after quip in rapid succession.

It has been written this way because of the success of the Marvel films and the fact that this is what
the GA likes. After the critical failure and below par box office of BvS, they could not afford to another
turkey like that.

Granted these films were being shot concurrently, but they likely did something completely different from BvS
here to ensure they would have at least one home run.

Intriguing analysis. Is it your belief that in 2013 WB had a crystal ball that revealed BvS would make massive amounts of the wrong kind of money, forcing them to make SS using Marvel's home baking kit? If so, why approve, fund, and enable BvS to be made as it was?

I'm a Marvel guy but I'm really rooting for SS, with the reports of the re shoots going on, and this trailer looking
great, it sounds like WB/DC may have finally learnt their lesson.

I just wretched.

Anyone else loving the music choices in the trailers?

Yes.

And I wouldn't mind being the meat in a Harley/Joker sandwich.

The Joker, Harley and Deadshot are safe without a doubt. The next set of characters that I think will be relatively safe are Enchantress, Croc and Boomerang. Probable goners are Diablo and Slipknot.

I'm OK with the music, but the CC trailer had the best one. I'm sure the music is misleading.

I don't get this. The tone here is the same as the 2nd trailer, nothing has been changed as "damage control" after BvS.

Pretty much where I stand.

I think the music choices are all great for all 3 trailers...but I'm with you... the first CC trailer had the best music choice and it was so much darker than the next 2....although I guess they had to show that this movie isn't just going to be some dark, depressing movie. although I really dug that tone and that trailer.

I truly hope the rumors about Batman being a huge part in this aren't true. I'm already sick of Batfleck thanks to Snyder's brushing Superman off to the side just so he could cram more of his underwhelming concept of Batman down my throat... I'm not really eager to see more at this point. Maybe seeing Affleck in this and a solo Batman film will make me change my mind, but for now... I hope the focus of this film stays on the Skwad.

I really hope that rumors are true. So Superman fans can sit and clench their teeth in hopeless anger while I'm having a blast watching Batman dominate the screen in an awesome movie. That's the Batman I waited for all my life.

It's clearly more comedic. Wanting to be dark then switching to comedic. With this trailer clearly emphasizing the humor more than the last trailer going as far to take pieces of one scene to show it. They're not even being subtle about it. It's like WB execs broke into the editing room in a huff and were like, "IT NEEDS TO BE FUN!!"

And given the recent additional shooting and BVS's criticisms, they're clearly trying to market it as more fun. Not realizing that SS having a dark tone is actually better for it. It just looks so slapped together. And the shameless shoehorning of Batman in there going as far to show the Batmobile in the last shot before the title. Holy ****.

If you don't think this trailer is a result of damage control, then you're in denial.

And the beginning of this trailer... WB still enamored with hating Superman. I really hope SS isn't a result of being fearful of Superman.

Well if it is, then good for you and all the other fans who have horrible taste in movies.

I finally caved and watched the trailer.

What the heck are people talking about?

Will Smith seems more than good in his role.

Sure, we're gonna have fun. A LOT OF FUN. For years to come, by the way. While you're sitting here angry.

And if Justice League and Batfleck Begins both bomb or severely underperform? Yeah, that's going to be a lot of fun for you when WB pulls the plug on all of this.

You can dream. Not gonna happen.

It's a possibility, they pulled the plug once before.

What the **** are you on about ? It's almost a copy of the previous trailer, with some new shots in there and a new, but still up-beat and catchy song. Are you one of those people who think these new "funny" moments are shot couple of days ago ?
