Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 18

But it clearly IS Marvel influenced.
I agree it feels a bit different to the MCU, which is good, but...
This new trailer is quip after quip in rapid succession.

It has been written this way because of the success of the Marvel films and the fact that this is what
the GA likes. After the critical failure and below par box office of BvS, they could not afford to another
turkey like that.

Granted these films were being shot concurrently, but they likely did something completely different from BvS
here to ensure they would have at least one home run.

I'm a Marvel guy but I'm really rooting for SS, with the reports of the re shoots going on, and this trailer looking
great, it sounds like WB/DC may have finally learnt their lesson.

You do realize that this movie was not written and shot in the three weeks since BvS was released.

If anything, BvS made sure DC fans will forever think Superman is lame while Batman is teh coolest! And this post proves it. ugh.

Nah, I used to think Superman was lame. Then we got MOS and I was thrilled.

Then start behaving, with respect to other people's opinions. I don't need to listen to how something that I love is terrible and catastrophe in every thread I come in. Keep your negativity to yourself or vent it in a specific thread. It's not a healthy discussion - demonstrating spite and hate on every corner.
What did I say?
I'm also trying to escape the negative posts.

....

I really hope that rumors are true. So Superman fans can sit and clench their teeth in hopeless anger while I'm having a blast watching Batman dominate the screen in an awesome movie. That's the Batman I waited for all my life.

Don't make me laugh. That goody two shoes boy scout? Boring AF. Ever was, ever will be. He finally got a chance to shine in two movies in a row. And in future JL. More than he deserves.

Of course, 2-3 depressed Superman fans is enough to turn any place into a cemetery.

I liked Superman in MOS. A lot. But BvS pretty much ruined all that for me.

It's clearly more comedic. Wanting to be dark then switching to comedic. With this trailer clearly emphasizing the humor more than the last trailer going as far to take pieces of one scene to show it. They're not even being subtle about it. It's like WB execs broke into the editing room in a huff and were like, "IT NEEDS TO BE FUN!!"

And given the recent additional shooting and BVS's criticisms, they're clearly trying to market it as more fun. Not realizing that SS having a dark tone is actually better for it. It just looks so slapped together. And the shameless shoehorning of Batman in there going as far to show the Batmobile in the last shot before the title. Holy ****.

If you don't think this trailer is a result of damage control, then you're in denial.

And the beginning of this trailer... WB still enamored with hating Superman. I really hope SS isn't a result of being fearful of Superman.

Ayer himself proved that "reshoots to add more humor" rumor false. see his tweet from early this morning.
This trailer is very similar to the second trailer. So no, not damage control. the CC trailer was never meant to be released publicly

Shoehorning Batman in? They are all Batman villains, only makes sense.

What the **** are you on about ? It's almost a copy of the previous trailer, with some new shots in there and a new, but still up-beat and catchy song. Are you one of those people who think these new "funny" moments are shot couple of days ago ?

It's noticeably more humorous. Due to one reason: BVS. The last trailer was a GOTG rip off in feeling, and though there was humor it was mainly selling itself on how it was irreverent and quirky to pull in that GOTG crowd. This was before BVS. Now they're not even hiding the fact they want this to be more humorous and fun to the masses, especially in the wake of BVS's failure. This movie's marketing keeps getting dialed into more wacky and fun fare than the dark and fitting Comic Con trailer.

You didn't. But you defend those who did. And you won't escape negative posts. Either there are new rules, or it's gonna continue going back and forth.

I can't argue with this. It's like Snyder took every MOS criticism (fair or otherwise) and doubled down in making BVS.

It's like someone coming up to me one day and saying "Hey, your farts stink," and then I respond by s***ting my pants.

Ayer stated back in August during filming that people would be surprised how funny it is. Also Ayer said yesterday that the re-shoots were his decision and that WB loves the movie but he wanted more action scenes. Jai has stated the same thing but believe Devin the Marvel stan all you want.

I loved Superman in BvS and didn't think he was lame at all. His character arc was my favourite part of the film.

I liked Superman in MOS and BvS.

great! thought me and OutOfBoose were alone in that one...

I wonder how flashback heavy this movie is going to be or if its going to be more linear. I would assume flashbacks, I imagine that will be a big theme in the entire DCEU

you wouldn't know it based on the all the negativity on this board
Many people don't participate in discussions and some people left this board because of rotten atmosphere some people create here.

No I know. I wasn't being entirely serious in my remark, was more annoyed by the endless negativity

Smh at this whole post and wtf is a GOTG crowd. Next we'll have people complaining that Wonder Woman is tapping into the Thor crowd then the JL tapping into the Avengers crowd based off trailers.

:loco:

Personally, I didn't enjoy Superman in either MOS or BvS, and both films ultimately, IMO, did little to nothing to improve the character's reputation.

I'm sorry, this is all just so laughably wrong. Do you think these scenes were shot by magic cinematographer fairies in a week? The movie has ALWAYS been like this, nothing we've seen was made post BvS. And Batman. Of course he's in this. We've known since the beginning he would be, why wouldn't they throw him in the trailer? If you have Batman in your movie, you're not going to keep it a secret.
First trailer wasn't supposed to be released for audience outside SDCC.

That's why it's different than the next two.
^^^Exactly

Again, this is just wrong. It is simply NOT a different tone from the 2nd trailer. Why would they hide the tone of the movie? And see above, the Comic Con trailer was never meant to be part of marketing, therefore nothing has changed in the marketing.

Same here.

I didn't read much comics about Superman, but I saw all previous films... And honestly, it did quite a lot.

I couldn't disagree more. Just take the beginning of the trailer right after the logos. The Squad getting sedated and packed up into a plane, coupled with the You Don't Own Me track, gives you a sense that Waller doesn't give two ****s about these people. They're tools. That's the tragedy behind the Suicide Squad and it's conveyed in those couple of seconds. Just because it's not in-your-face gloomy like the Comic-Con trailer (which I loved) doesn't mean the content is not there. I would actually say this is more effective.

Deadshot's line "remember, we're the bad guys" is another example of the futility of the whole premise. Most of these characters aren't downright evil, they just found themselves in a messed up situation. And now, they're being used as bait by the government.

All of this is in the trailer. Of course there are one-liners and action scenes, it's a comic book movie after all. The BvS trailers were almost all balls to the wall action, bigger than anything in this film. All three Suicide Squad trailers have given us character moments most of all. Every single character, except Slipknot, has been roughly defined over the course of these trailers without giving away too much. They're very well-made.

Well said.

Anyone else loving the music choices in the trailers?

I Started a Joke
Bohemian Rhapsody
You Don't Own Me
Ballroom Blitz
I can't wait to hear the other song choices.
