Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 18

My only fear is that this trailer is a bait and switch in reaction to BvS. I really hope the movie they showed in the new trailer is the movie we get, exciting, action packed, and most importantly fun. I do not want another grim, depressing, rain filled DC movie.

David Ayer is the reason I'm not worried about this. He's put out a couple of movies that haven't been well received but he's NEVER put out anything depressing or lacking in fun and action. Even Sabotage was a watchable movie albeit with a very weak plot. Training Day wasn't short on fun despite the very serious subject matter. I just can't fathom someone of Ayer's talents writing and directing a bad or dull movie with the characters he has access to. It would absolutely floor me if that happened. This movie might be the safest bet to deliver in the entire DC slate outside of maybe Affleck's solo.

I love the trailer and I look forward to this film arguably a lifetime of times more than the next Snyder's film, whatever that was and hopefully that not being Justice League.

could I be any happier to be a DC fan right now?!
Obviously I LOVED BVS, and SS looks FANTASTIC
I like what they are doing in terms of letting each director really make the films their own, instead of making them all carbon copies of each other, yet all set within the confines of the same universe.

Obviously its easy for people to start saying "Ayer should take over the DCEU" but its important to remember that Snyder is merely producing the ones he's not directing, and he has stated how very important it is to him Deborah and Charles that they really let each director tell their own story. I loved what he said about how if Ayer or Jenkins want to push the limits on the plot of the story, they communicate with Snyder and he makes the adjustments accordingly so that there is continuity between all the films. You may not like Snyder or what he did in BVS, and I can understand that, but you can't deny the man has a great eye for detail and continuity, and obviously its is top priority that each director puts their own stamp on their films. The DCEU is going to be very eclectic, yet telling a very cohesive story and I think its clear that Snyder as a producer is going to be focusing on the details of the timeline and continuity.

Im SO excited for the future of the DCEU and SS looks incredible.
As for the Joker, I've never had an issue with his new "look", with the ONE exception of the "damaged" tattoo- It's just so distracting

Great post.
DCEU is still happening and I'm grateful of it. I'm looking forward for SS, WW and JL.

I hope we'll get proper explanation about its origin. And the grill (which I'm hoping Batman involved). :D

Yeah I almost posted about how I thought it would be cool if Harley gave him all his tattoo's based on the whole "Harley's Tattoo Parlour" they did on set and at that convention recently, but I'm pretty sure he has the tattoo's in the scenes when Harley is still Dr. Harleen Quinzel correct?

I don't mind the damaged tattoo. I'm way more interested on how Leto's Joker ticks than caring about how he looks. He looks fine to me, but I feel Ayer will go a LOT deeper than "looking like the characters". Film is way more than a visual medium after all.

Really great time to be a fan of DC. I love how everything is unfolding so far. Can they improve in the future? Of course. But, hell, I'm loving it.

Hey, who's that hiding in the corner with a black cape?

Yea, apparently he already has them when Harley still Harleen.
This is him in the scene when he said, "I'm not going to kill you – I'm just going to hurt you really, really bad" to Harleen.

The tattoo didn't faze me, but I remember when I saw the first look photo of Leto's Joker, I thought, 'Gosh, get ready, I bet many folks definitely won't like it!'. :funny:

Maybe Boomerang? Not sure though, but the clothes a bit similar.

Fanboys from either DC or Marvel waste way too much time worrying about filmmakers will get these characters visually right, when that's not even half of the job. From a visual standpoint only, Leto's Joker looks a lot better than Ledger's, but very few actors could top Ledger's performance. I have faith in both Ayer and Leto that they will pull it off.

I have a lot of faith in Ayer, more so than Snyder. End of Watch was fantastic, as was Fury. And I was one of 10 people who liked Sabotage. He knows how to do action mixed with dark humor.

It's hilarious yet sad that people.in the business have to verify via social media the gripes of movie nerds.

I think Zack's biggest problem is that he's in his own head too much when he sets these scenes up. He might be a little myopic and miss something needed to make the audience see what he sees the scene revealing. Because not everyone is on the same page as he is, he leaves it a little ambiguous. It's like he hears a character's internal dialogue when he's watching the scene back but we're not getting that. You have to find a way to get that across to the audience.

I'm going to wait for the extended version and see if it fills in the gaps before I criticize too much. The studio may have had him cut it for time and then it falls on them. I'm sure the fans will make a cut and see if they can do a better editing job.

-"WHERE ARE YOU?"
-"Here"
-"AAAHH"

Is a good funny moment, always makes me laugh, in a good way. :D

Yep, but you can counter that with practically everything Perry says in BvS "It's not 1938!" etc.
Pretty much everything Alfred says is the same... and we also get Bruce with his "You're getting slow in your old age" line, his "Puff piece" speech to Clark, his "I thought she was with you" ...etc. etc.

Great new trailer :woot:

Really liked Ayer's other movies, particularly Fury. The guy can do an ensemble piece really well. The is movie just looks to have all the life in it that BvS was sorely lacking. Fingers crossed it lives up to the material we've seen and delivers something that'll right the DCEU ship. Hell, if it does gang busters at the BO, it's be lovely to think of Ayer taking a more central role in guiding the DCEU from now on. He could be a pair of really solid hands.

WOW, this trailer looks FANTASTIC!, It just looks like a really.... Dare I say the word... FUN Comicbook movie!

I think a big part of this is the CLEAR Marvel influence with the quips.
Will Smith playing himself as usual, but I don't mind because the rest of the film looks great.

DC need a win this time, it's been too easy for Marvel and I want some competition between the companies now.
Imo the the trailers for BvS looked like the trailers for a crap film, whereas the trailers for this keep getting better
so it's looking more promising.

"Oh I'm not gonna kill ya. I'm just gonna hurt ya. Really, REALLY bad."
"I can't wait to show you my toys."
"Are you sweet-talking me?"
"All of this chit-chat's gonna get ya hurt."

So far so good.
