Marvel has a very strict "No Compete" clause. None of their actors can work for the competition.

Its why Jaime Alexander isn't Wonder Woman, and why you won't see Idris Elba as Green Lantern.

The thought strikes me that "already in Suicide Squad" could mean that it's someone already in the announced cast and that they're shifting Jai Courtney to the role of Flagg. Courtney was in Divergent last year and will be in Terminator this year.

No, that wouldn't happen. Already in the Suicide Squad would be like Bernthal, there was rumors of him being in months ago him being up for Flagg would make sense if he didn't have those comments a couple months ago.

I'm not sad at all that Gyllenhaal didn't take the role because I suspected that he wouldn't. He was never a set thing for me so whatever.

To be fair Eh Maybe did break Cara Delevingne being cast so I might listen to a casting scoop from him regarding this project.

There may indeed be a non-compete clause for all Marvel actors. But people seem to think that's the only reason Jaimie isn't playing Wonder Woman, and that's silly.

Please not Jason Clarke. He's okay but I don't see why he's landing all of these high profile roles.

Then again, if the Rick Flag role is indeed a minimal, poorly developed character, then I guess this would work.

I understand why people think that Marvel has that rule for their actors, but is there any actual proof that the clause is real?

I think if the twist that was rumored about Flag is true, Flag might end up being very interesting. But I know if it's good or bad interesting.

I would certainly agree with that.

I'm admittedly not too learned in Suicide Squad lore to have any strong feelings toward Flagg. Maybe he is a great, understated character in the DC mythos. But I'd be lying if I said I was more interested in seeing him in comparison to, say, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and The Joker.

My guess is the appeal comes from being part of a potentially big movie, more than the role itself.

(And for whatever reason I have it in my head that Rick Flagg is revealed as evil and dies... in which case no chance for sequels would make the role even less pretty.)
