We're getting Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all together and interacting in a live-action movie for the first time ever. I don't see how anyone could possibly have a problem with that.

They are definitely taking the idea of a cinematic universe from Marvel but they aren't following Marvel's template of doing all the solo franchises before the crossover event film.

They are definitely building the Universe differently and the tone is certainly not the same. Both good things in my opinion.

Agreed. Although, I hope they give each character's films has a tone that serves that particular character best without worrying if it would be seen as copying "Marvel's tone".

There's barley any originality left in Hollywood nowadays's. Everything is a rip off of something else anyway.

Because it's "not Marvel." :whatever:

:o

I personally loath the whole Marvel vs DC fan war. I like both.

I also hate the "them or us" mentality that a lot of fans seem to have. If you look at my pull list, you'll see lots of DC books AND lots of Marvel books (and Red Sonja, but that's mostly because I love Gail Simone). If you look at my Blu-ray collection, you'll see films from WB, Marvel, Fox, Sony, etc. It's not a zero-sum game, you can like BOTH!

I feel like WB can get away with that more because their characters are more well-known to the GA. I mean yeah the GA probably doesn't know a whole lot of specifics about Flash, WW, etc. But they're at least more recognizable than say Iron Man, Thor, GOTG, etc. The GA probably at least knows the basics of them (Flash is super-fast, WW's an Amazon, Aquaman's rules Atlantis, etc). So you don't need to spend as much time building-them up for JL. They show up in JL, and the GA knows who they are already, and then you can flesh them out in their individual solo movies.

My obsession with the tone thing is in response to the push that every single comicbook film should have the Marvel tone. A lot of people think that and I believe in variety and not merely following, to the letter, the most popular thing of the moment.

When a lot of people wanted every comicbook film to be like The Dark Knight I was against that as well so I'm equal opportunity biased against that idea.

Although I lean more towards DC, I'm the same way. The war is dumb, especially since we all win if all companies deliver quality comic book films. I think about next year a lot. Seven comic book films coming out. Three from FOX, two a piece from DC and Marvel. That's good stuff.

The 'war' doesnt really exist anyway, most of the talent in comics is freelance anyway.

Even though certain cbms aren't my cup of tea, I'm still incredibly grateful to be a part of the whole phenomenon. As a kid, I remember picking up Wizard magazine and reading about the advent of feature films based on my favorite characters. Whenever I looked for updates, though, I'd find either nothing at all or status reports that read: "development hell." I remember seeing movies come out with names like "Iron Man" or "The Avengers", but they had no connection whatsoever to the comics I grew up reading; and it always felt like a ripoff to me. How many times have we seen characters steal from the Batman universe? Far too many. Underworld's Selene was basically an amalgam of Catwoman, X-Men's Selene (Black Queen of the Hellfire Club), and Batman himself.

So, yeah, it's a nice feeling to witness all of this finally happening. Again, even when a particular film isn't right for me due to it not having a certain tone or what I perceive as a lack of substance, I still have plenty of respect for all of the filmmakers who endeavor to bring these characters to life.

Enjoy it while you can!

The war is dumb. But the idea that you must like both has the same amount of silliness as the idea of it being impossible to like both.

Something will happen. Tomorrow. #skwad

More casting announcement's tomorrow is my bet. Give me Sinise and Ed Harris. :argh:

What if it ends up just being a pic of Ayer naked, with Suicide Squad #1 covering his genitals? You guys would be so perplexed, you'd forget to be angry. :funny:

Honestly if they nail the Deathstroke casting I'd be more happy than a pic of Joker.
