Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - - - - - - - - - Part 28

You know what I've noticed? Nobody panics when everything goes according to plan...even if the plan is horrifying! If the media reports that a truckload of soldiers is blown up, nobody panics. But if three little old superhero movies get mixed reception from critics, everyone loses their minds!

It's like the old joke about a rich man who doesn't worry when his company loses millions of dollars but complains about his family's high phone bill. War, civil unrest and mass shootings are too big and in no way shape or form fun to discuss.

As a life long DC fan, I would never want to rob another DC fan of their enjoyment for this particular DCEU. That is selfish to wish it gone just based on your own views. It is worthy of existing. It may not be great, but plenty of folks love it. We will get good films that more people will like eventually. I don't like BvS but my good friend LOVED it, he adores it. I want the series to continue for people like him.

Let's not give up just yet. Or just let it run it's course like the Schumacher era. In retrospect I'm happy that occurred, I enjoy those movies for what they are and it lead to better things. I don't want this DCEU to come to an instant halt leaving loose ends(Like the amazing Spider-Man series) until it's exhausted every option to make it WORK. We still have plenty to look forward to including Wonder Woman and Affleck's solo Bat-Film. Those have WAY better shots at actually being good.

They can start fresh years from now.

Thank you so much for acknowledging the wishes of the other DC fans. I have immense respect for you now. My greatest fear for DC right now is them shutting down the universe that has been thoroughly entertaining and intriguing to me thus far. At the same time, a tiny part of me kinda wants WB to shut down WW, JL and future DCEU films and give us the finger because quite frankly I am frustrated with this environment. But then again, a big part of me still wants to see more of the universe.

The petition for bringing down RT has already more than 10,000 votes. Didn't expect it to fill in at such a fast rate.

10,000? Damn... That is a lot of votes. Even though the whole thing is a completely stupid idea, the guy who started the petition is from EGYPT so he probably doesn't know how reviews work in America and what role Rotten Tomatoes actually plays in all of this.

But that 10,000 votes is a quick jump from yesterday when I heard it was around 1,600 votes in one of the articles? Even if it is a stupid useless idea, that says something, that there are people outside the forums who enjoy the DCEU and is frustrated with the critical reception to DCEU movies. But those of you who use RT as ammo, no need to worry, that site will continue to exist.

Up until the NYC premiere on Monday, no one except for Will Smith and Joel Kinnamon had seen the film.

Imagine what they must be feeling like...

The RT petition shows that there are a lot of morons in the world.

Joel's response to the film

Joel: "The hell's wrong with you people?"

WB Executives: "We're bad executives! It's what we do!"

About how Ben Affleck felt as he stared into space during that interview for BvS. "Hello darkness, my old friend. I've come to talk with you again."

I don't know about Horn's involvement in those movies.

It was long rumored that the upper management of WB at the time Horn was there was pretty dysfunctional though. It has been mentioned in the trades and by various industry insiders. As I said before there was a power struggle going on between the execs which lead to Horn being ousted. Very dog eat dog mentality when it comes to executive leadership which effected the quality of some of their movies.

The story on Green Lantern I saw is this

That GL story...

I think everyone needs to calm down about this. It is not the end of the world. If you don't enjoy it, then don't support the DCEU from now on. If you do enjoy it, then do support the DCEU. It is as simple as that.

If WB would have let this fly under the radar like Gaurdians of the Galaxy it might not have had a stellar BO return but I'm willing to bet reviewers wouldn't be judging it so harshly

I've been saying this for a while. The idea of a 'filmaker driven' blockbusters is a farce. Honestly, unless your name is Spielberg, Cameron, Nolan and maybe Ridley Scott, no studio is going to hand u a $200 mill check and leave u to your own devices. Fury
Road might as well be a unicorn really.

You shouldnt be surprised about studio interference with SS. there's just too much money at stake for these suits to sit on the sidelines. Marvel does the exact same thing, the difference is, they don't hide it and are open about how their producion process and universe works. The directors for the most part know what they're getting into the relationship between producers and director is more clear cut and collaborative. `
It's expected that studio, whatever they claimed their philosophy is, to get their hands on blockbuster movie. It is mega money all around, anyway. :D

But I'm just not expecting that WB to be this thick and clumsy with quality and budget control. They, after put their hands on it, produced yet another big movie with choppy editing issues and stuffs (well, consistently mentioned by people who watched it) after another big movie from the same franchise was criticized because of the exact same things.

I'll still watch SS tho. Still pumped. :D

You have to look at the success Alan Horn's had over at Disney and WB's slump since his departure and wonder.

Maybe Disney can buy out WB at some point and actually deliver a series of well regarded DC films among fans, critics and the GA. Clearly they understand their characters more than WB.

Its another point that came up on another board. WB's marketing team is obviously terrific. And they hype up these films to unreal levels. I think that makes it such a letdown to the reviewers when they see that the finished product doenst hit the potential the trailers promised.

Honestly, compare the marketing campaigns for Civil War and BvS. Marvel does their typical 2 trailers (about 2 mins 20 sec long each) and a bunch of TV spots along with some comic con promotion the year before. DC teased BvS for 3 straight comic cons, 4 trailers some of them 3 mins long, tv spots everywhere, so many interviews, BTS stories, sly digs at marvel etc..all this s*** piles up and when the film doesnt deliver, people will bring out the pitchforks. Same thing happened her with SS, with all the epic trailers, the Jared Leto stories etc. This stuff can backfire

Marvel have confidence in their material. DC/WB do not. There's the reason for the disparity.

I don't get it. What do these dolts think shutting down RT will accomplish? That won't stop WB from making bad movies or making bad decisions. Their anger is geared in the wrong direction. Even if they like what the DCEU has given them, they should still be upset that the films are generally considered bad outside of the DC bubble. That's not RT's fault.

I'm gonna defend this movie and BvS to my dying breath but even I can admit WB gets too excited about its products. I mean did you see all those tv spots, clips, trailer after trailer. They just need to chill out with this "event film" stuff

i just read that david ayer wrote SS script in 6 weeks lol

no wonder the writing is being bashed

After yet another misfire, it pains me to say that the DCEU will be joining the list of franchises I won't pay money for.

How about we see the movie first before we let other people tell us how we should feel guys?

Thats just insane. there are cable TV shows that give their writers more time than that for a couple of episodes. To write such a big budget movie with this many characters, with this much action in 6 weeks is patently ridiculous.

They had a prior script to work from but even then 6 weeks is ridiculous and absolutely baffling. You can't expect Ayer to put something good out in that time span. WB's method fast tracking these films with multiple people writing multiple scripts and or putting up ambitious release dates is absolutely baffling.

If WW is yet another fail then I guess WB need to get out of the way and let the new directors do their thing for the rest of the DCEU. They especially better not mess with Affleck's solo Bat film

Monopoly seems constricting, even if they are in different division.
But maybe because I prefer friendly-but-on-fire rivalries. :D

WB need to get themselves together and find a good, ideal working process and attitude.
Their approach right now is definitely not great at all. All of this pressure is a massive challenge.
They already have talents and full DC rights, do them and fans justice.
If both sides produce good movies, good news for audiences.

But someday, if CBM dries out, we can expect 'Avengers vs Justice League' or something like that. :o
