The first 10-20 minutes did seem like it was cut by the trailer editors, plus the Harley and Joker scenes.

I wonder if they reshot that dinner scene with Waller to introduce the characters there as opposed to more organically.

I'd be shocked if it had. That just seems like the WORST idea anybody could have had.

It's not rational, HOWEVER, I can understand it.... if I was an 11 year old child.

"Wow people really received the trailers well. Let's, uh, just do that for the WHOOOOLE movie."

And the trailers were good and quiet- up until comic-con where they blew their junkies on a final trailer which pretty much showed everything.

*sigh*

WB really needs to let David Heyman to take over a separate DC Films studio of some sort. Geoff Johns is fine and I don't know much about Jon Berg, but they should let the dude who produced all the goddamn Harry Potter movies for WB to have a shot of making a cohesive, production environment for these properties to come alive.

It felt that way to me, especially from the way the song tracks were spliced.

But to be fair, I liked the character introductions. With the CGI and the titles and descriptions. But a lot of the movie felt disjointed especially leading up to Incubus taking over the subway.

I liked the CGI/titles/descriptions. But they just condensed SO much information into it. There was zero breathing room in the entire first act. Then it slowed waaaay down in the second act. and Then the third act was just waaaaayy overblown. Does Ayer usually do director commentaries? I would really like to hear what he has to say and why he made some of the decisions that he did, and to learn exactly what the reshoots entailed.

House of the Rising Sun and Black Skinhead were my favorite song uses in the movie.

But supposedly because it's "not a perfect film and it was made for the fans" you can ignore all that.

Honestly wonder how the original cut would have fared.

The dark tone may have turned people off after BVS. And the Queen/Blitz trailers wouldn't have happened. Also the Joker physically punching Harley may have been a turn off.

But a better edited and more coherent plot would have been a positive.

I can't remember any of the pop songs that work other than...

EMINEM. I like that. I really like that when everyone was suiting up.

I see you can preorder a digital copy of Suicide Squad on psn. It comes with a bonus featurette "Suicide Squad: Mind over Body", probably a making of documentary. And believe it or not it comes with a RENTAL of Assault on Arkham. Not a bonus movie for you, a RENTAL. I've never seen that in my life, wow could they be any cheaper. You also get a Suicide Squad theme for ps4, PS3.

If BvS is any indication then we can probably expect this to be it as they announced the ultimate cut well in advance and didn't change anything.
I really hope they reconsider and add the extra scenes

Loved the soundtrack. Sure, everything COULD have been better. I get that it's disappointing that a movie isn't as good as it could have been, but it was fun. I'm more than willing to sit back and enjoy it. The problem comes in when there's a movie that NEEDS expert work in order to be good. Hey, I'll pan those POOPformer movies when they come out. :woot:

Yep. My brother made the comment after the movie that the first half of the movie felt like it was just a long trailer and he wasn't even aware that it was cut by trailer editors.

Suicide Squad OW estimate downgraded from 146 million to 130 million

SAT drop for #SuicideSquad huge, even bigger than might be expected. May tumble by over 40% & end below $40M. Maybe $130M-ish wknd now.

These "insider people" really need to stop it with their OW estimates. Just wait until the real numbers come in and report that. Saves you the trouble of adjusting up and down every feq minutes xD

They could release a "studio version" where it's actually Ayer's cut, and have it in the same package as the TC, that way it doesn't give the impression that WB messed with Ayer's product and you still get the real version out and get the $$$. =P

That first act should be thrown into the hole and the hole should be thrown away. 2-3rd acts are enjoyable, it's like a B movie with incredibly funky characters like Will Smith and Harley Quinn and a solid Rigg Flag, so if Kevin T can fire whoever is messing with Snyder and Ayer and let Johns and directors do their thing, and let the squad take on missions around the world, with Deadstroke or someone grounded (to cut down budget), a sequel should be great, if they are not confident they could announce that Harley spin-off, they kinda did that with Batman's spin off right?

Really, I'm starting to wonder if I should just skip seeing Justice League in theaters and wait for the Ultimate cut or whatever. Might as well get the most competent version, since WB apparently can't put it into theaters.

Kevin T IS the problem. Ever since he was hired, WB has been going down hill fast. Him and Silverman should be the 1st two people to leave. Isn't there an investors meeting coming up soon? I'm guessing they'll be gone before then

Quoted for Truth! BvS would have been **** anyway you slice it, but I sincerely believe they butchered SS

To me the biggest problem so far in the DCEU is not understanding what it wants to be. We all know what Snyder's flaws are so I won't dwell on them. Having him build the "sandbox" that all of these other films have to play in was a mistake. A bigger mistake was making Zack Snyder try to copy Christopher Nolan with Man of Steel instead of letting the guy make his own damn movie. The DCEU got off on the wrong foot by trying to emulate a certain film maker instead of trusting the completely different kind of film maker they chose. You can't call yourself a director's studio if you don't let your directors breathe. To me, if you don't trust a director's vision then don't hire them or if you're apprehensive don't give them unnecessarily huge budgets but don't neuter them AFTER they've shot the freaking thing. Any creative concerns need to be ironed out before the first frame is shot. Let them express themselves within certain parameters such as run time and budget so that there are no crude edits required so close to release. Hopefully Geoff Johns' involvement is enough to improve characterization in these movies and whatever Patty Jenkins shot is left the eff alone to speak for itself. It is absolutely inevitable that these movies will fail if the studio keeps messing with the directors' work though. That is not nor has it ever been a recipe for success. Live and die by the work of the people you hire or don't hire them and give them massive budgets that make you uncomfortable with them having creative control.

i agree 100% these trades constantly overshoot projections as the weeks go on with thier box office reports so once they dont reach them it is seen as a disappointment and a failure even tho the original projection was 125 million which it will be around

Isn't it also the case that rival studios will deliberately push higher estimates to try and diminish the perceived success of their competitors?

I've never heard of that happening but it wouldn't surprise me.

Saw this again earlier tonight in IMAX 3D. It was better knowing what I was getting, I enjoyed it much more.

Still think it's absolutely horrible, I'd put it in the so-bad-it's-good category. That's more than I can say for the likes of Catwoman or Green Lantern at least! I was laughing my ass off unintentionally plenty of times. Diablo in the final fight. So. Awful. lol.
