I don't mindo if Ayer comes back, but behind the scenes with production really soured my opinion. Maybe get someone else to help format and develop the script so it reads as more streamlined and cohesive.

For me the stuff that is coming out of his mouth lately is even worse than BTS stuff

I'd be surprised if Ayer came back. Even though he is being professional and taking it all on the chin publicly, I feel that behind the scenes he's probably like "I'm never ****ing doing this again." He got to play in the big boy sandbox and it didnt work out, I think he's gonna move on and do his own original films from now on. If his Netflix movie with Will Smith is a hit, he may just continue along that path.

Ayer talked a big game before the film came out and seemed to genuinely believe he had made a good movie...I bet the critical reception devastated him. Plus if the film was really taken away from him in post-production, I can't image he's happy about that.

He really believed there was no way his movie would have the same critical reaction as BvS (TC)

I think if his vision totally failed critically he'd just own it and keep doing it (trying to improve it)

However, after Sabotage and this he's probably done dealing with people who will meddle with his movies.

Or maybe his gritty modern chaotic group movies just don't do well with critics.

Fury seemed to be directed with much more precision. Then again its just a tank movie.

I think he realize the the movie has several issues -

1. The Script needed more time, it was rushed, it needed more development.

2. The dialogue was not very good either. At best it was serviceable, and at worst it sounded cheesy.

3. The movie had some scenes which would have invited outrage and condemnation from Social Justice Warriors and politically correct brigade. The abusive relationship between two characters (Joker and Harley) would be seen as out of place in a comic book movie (different standards adopted by Critics, I know.) but they would have been fine if the same was shown in some low budget Art house Indie film.

4. David Ayer knew that after the Critical bashing BvS was subjected to, his movie will have to face higher scrutiny, and the move would be analyzed frame by Frame by critics.


Just because Ayer kept a brave face doesn't mean that he was unaware of the shortcomings and the situation I described above, him blaming WB for everything would be to ignore other aspects of the movie that were part of the movie right from it's Inception.

Anyone who has their movie taken from them only to have a trailer production company produce the final cut cannot possibly be happy. Ayer is being professional but you best believe he is pissed off and frustrated with this whole ordeal. Directing a big budget Hollywood project like this is daunting work but no director signs up for that kind of BS.
