Pretty much every character's backstory was. Amanda Waller's exposition scene came in very late in the game.

Honestly, the marketing for this never fooled anyone into thinking that this is another version of the movie. It's always been marketed as an extended cut with new footage.

If it's more than that I'll be happily surprised.

Well, they did show the old Waller scene in the trailer for the new cut. There's no excuse for that, because they know exactly what is and isn't in the movie.

If I'm not mistaken they also used it for the TV spots of the movie, near its release. And I really don't think they included that (if it's not in the extended cut) to trick people into thinking this is a different cut of Suicide Squad. The only people noticing that's a different version of the scenes are people like you and me who tend to over-analyze this stuff and discuss it on message boards.

And don't think the PR people think about the implications of showing an alternate take in the trailer for the extended version. They've got, next to the movie, all sorts of trailer-ready footage which they use.

The studio has announced this as being an extended version which is 11 minutes longer and has 13 minutes of new footage. Expecting anything else is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I'm not saying they're purposefully tricking us into thinking it's an alternate cut (which it technically is but whatever). I'm saying that the trailer footage combined with the implications of the footage we've already seen seem to indicate that the scene could have been replaced. We know we're getting a longer Arkham sequence which kind of messes with the alternate dinner scene. Unless it's just one or two extra lines, of course.

Lesser of two evils. I'll take worse flow over non-existent scenes that were marketed and the butchering of those that are there.

The only solution to this would have been a better script.

To be completely honest. I think this is EXACTLY why they were cut. The movie is ultimately about the Squad and 30 mins of Harley/ Joker backstory wouldve definitely hurt the flow of the film no matter how good the footage is.

But Greens is right, ultimately it all boils down to the script. It sounds like the original script stopped the main story to tell lots of backstory for these characters.

Man, the more I see of Leto's joker, the more I dislike him. The look, the performance, the weird grunting noises he makes, and the laugh (which is hit and miss for me).

Just feels like he is trying too hard. His insanity doesn't feel natural. It's like he's trying to be crazy even though he isn't.

Not really. I liked/loved Leto's joker and my only problem was that he was not there enough and the more I see of him the more I like him.

The scenes weren't cut for pacing. They were cut because Warner Bros. got cold feet after the Batman V Superman backlash, and decided to nix most of the darker and heavier contents, in favor of a much lighter tone, more in line with Marvel Studios' output.
They turned a movie upside down during its post-production, and barely got a movie out of it. For better or worse, they should've just stuck to David Ayer's script and original vision. But hey, I'm probably starting to sound like a broken record.

I don't know if there's any Batman Beyond fans here, but Leto's joker kind of reminds me of the jokerz gang from that show. It's like a fan who dressed himself up as the joker but isn't actually the real joker.

Felt like the Joker to me. Unfortunately most of his work got the shaft in the final cut.
