I just looked online, and the midnights for Potter are already selling out in Pittsburgh, too. 1 theater has 4 sold out showings so far (3 still open).

I may not midnight it. Mostly because I have no idea who I am going to see it with yet. I know who I am going with for Cap, but my bro has to come here for a weekend to do it. He can't travel up here 2 weeks in a row.

I'm not doing midnight because all the midnight showings in IMAX are sold out.

Mine will be the same. I had to get my tickets Asap. I'll be in line for the movie at 9 PM, so I can like...get a seat.:oldrazz:
Thank God I got tickets to the IMAX midnight show. I was able to choose my own seats so I could show up at 11:59 and not have to worry about a thing. But I'll still probably be there an hour and a half early just out of sheer excitement.

I can't afford IMAX right now, LOL! If Cap was going to be in IMAX, I'd scrape the cash to see it in IMAX. But, while I am dying to see Potter, if I am to see one movie for a lower ticket price while I am poor, then Potter gets the 2D treatment. I'll invest the extra few bucks I have for Cap (boost the OW ;)...POTTER DOESN'T NEED MY BOOST!!! :cmad:)

Got my tickets...but I'm not guaranteed a seat, seeing as I barely got into DH1. So I'll be going really early this time.:o

Very true, though preferably I would like all movies to have great scripts.

looks like cars is taking a run at GL's spot for worst reviewed film of the summer
it's gonna be a close call.

bet it still beats out panda's box office though..sad.

No Saturday bump for Cars 2. Translation: mixed-to-negative word of mouth is spreading.

This summer's box office has just been insanely meh this year, except for Hangover. The saving graces will be TF and HP, and possibly Cap. Don't know how Cowboys will do. I am noticing there is like a plethora of R rated comedies this summer compared to past ones.

Cowboys and Aliens won't do well. There's only so many movies people want to get out and spend their money on. Why would they see a strange mix up of a plot and a title like that? I just see it as more of a geek thing. Cap could even pick up WOM that week and make more perhaps.

Doctor Jones, you of all people should know the reason why the average moviegoer would see Cowboys and Aliens: Spielberg. Out of the ones he's producing this summer, it'll probably do a bit better than Super 8. Factor in Ford and Craig and you've got a bit of a higher number.

That's just one of the reasons why we as geeks would see it. The GA doesn't care who's name is on it, all they care about is if the movie looks good and if they want to spend money on it. And Spielberg isn't directing. Perhaps that would hold it a little more in its favor, but Favreau isn't that name yet. "Oh, he directed Iron Man. That was good, but *insert opinion*"

I don't think adding someone's name makes a difference much. More so if it's a director, and less if that famous director is producing. It comes down to whether it looks good and people are willing to see it. Those movies that happen to be a success with the famous director's names attached isn't an exception.

damn that´s almost a Hulk drop. That´s just not fair.

GL's not the first film to drop 50 - 60 percent in it's second week.
just seem like more bad press where there shouldn't be.

Almost? It dropped worse than both Hulk movies.

Edit.

Nevermind 03 Hulk dropped worse, but only by 1.5%.

But I agree it sucks that this movie is performing the way it is.

The budget was 50 million and the movie wasn't based on a brand or property. I'd say 120 million is a pretty big success.
True. Over 100mil period is all good for it.

Those numbers definately show frontloading.

Nobody said that it was. But it is very rare that a big opening non-sequel drops this hard. It's a big story that a 200million dollar over-marketed film is a flop. I know you like the film but don't bury your head in the sand, this is something special.

I never said it wasn't a flop, I'm simply point out how over hyped this film has been. how many films, this expensive or otherwise, have dropped around 60% in their second weekend.

If memory serves even the biggest hit of the year so far had 60plus drop in it's second week. But of course this is green lantern, the greatest ever.

The biggest hit of the year was a sequel that opened with huge numbers. And that drop meant that people didn't love that movie either.

You just don't like people focusing on WB's high profile flop for whatever reason. I'm not and the media is not going to stop focusing on it as it's an interesting entertainment story. I was one of the few who had good things to say about the film and I didn't dislike it any more than I did Thor but facts are facts. This movie is a huge failure that WB was counting on being a huge success. It should be talked about.

first of all, I'm not sure why you think I have some sort of personal investment in this film. It's miscast and mishandled, I simply had "good things to say about it." My personal feelings is that it's not much worse then a lot of these comic book films and the critics finally said something about it.
If you wanna see me go to bat for a film, wait till next week.

Secondly, it sure is interesting, but not as interesting as say a hit like Trek dropping 65. Or any film dropping 70 or 80%. The film is doing badly, and it dropped as much as other bigger hits have, how is this not a given.
