Probably because potter is diffusing it's demand by blowing through it's ridiculously high numbers. Seems kinda backwards but it's possible.

If potter had a high Thursday opening this would be more obvious.

I think TDK's Saturday is going down, kids franchises and saturday's go hand in hand.
though 8 year old probably haven't a clue what's going on anymore lol.

My parents are in line for Harry Potter right now. My mom just texted me - they got there at 6 for a 7:30 show and there were already 30 people in line waiting to get in.

When we left our show this afternoon, all of the IMAX screenings were sold out for the day and there was a huge line for the Real-D/2D shows.

It's gonna make a lot of money today.

Seriously, any dude crappy on women for liking Twilight needs to have a good look at his own gender for making films like Transformers successful.

Tf 1 isn't bad at all. They are fun movies. IMHO tho twilight is just a about a chick that can't choose and her stupid ways idk.

It is when you just look at the surface. But those books are basically saying the main character needs a man to survive. I mean she literally tries to kill herself when he leaves her. Also there's barely any substance as to why she loves him besides that he is good looking. Terrible role model for young girls.

I just finished The Hunger Games books, and the girl in that story at a certain point is an absolute mental disaster...because horrible, terrible things happened to her. I was literally in tears reading the last few chapters of those books.

Bella falls into the same state in Twilight because her boyfriend dumped her.

Ugh, Twilight. The series that leaves me embarrassed for my entire gender. Although in fairness, most women I know who read them agree that the books are crap. It's just a guilty pleasure.

And good for Harry Potter for avada kedrava-ing their record yesterday! :awesome:

I'm going to conjure up enough interest to talk about Potter's boxoffice and say:

I didn't think it would get the record. Like alot of films these days it wouldn't quite be putting up these numbers without the 3D tickets but anyway, yeah it's going to get the opening weekend record. Good for the people at WB...*shrugs*

Can't wait till I can see Captain America, hopefully it doesn't suck.

Does Twilight always have to be bashed on these Transformer loving boards? Can't we just talk about the newest boring Harry Potter movie's record numbers?

Themes of abstinence and waiting till marriage, cultural themes mainly highlighting the native american and his divide with the whites.

I mean I'm no twilight fan but i'm even less a fan of people on message boards that don't think for themselves, no offense to anyone btw. A lot of hollywood fare has to deal with this.

I agree, there is absolutely no "logical" reason why the boys like this girl so much, not that logic really should play a factor in such a thing. However why she likes them, any girl could tell you in less then 3 sentences.

lol @ "transformer loving boards" statement, last I checked it was the other way around...

I predict there are still line ups for potter this saturday and for primetime sunday showings.

People always say this, and I say this:

There's a huge differences to having plots about the world being in trouble, and a selfish b***h who has problems choosing her boyfriend and causes a war between vampires and werewolves.

And defending Twilight by saying it's like Transformers doesn't make it any better anyway.

Agree, a lot of female friends I have know its stupid but its a fantasy that they want to throw themselves in. Although others who tell me that its great literature just boggles me.

Are the Hunger Games trilogy worth a read? Hopefully a better female protagonist than Bella Swan. I haven't had time for them but maybe in the future. Although I heard the last book is a let down, would you agree or no?

Yeah it is. When I went to see it this morning at 10:45 it was PACKED. I've never seen it that packed on a Saturday morning.

I don't like Twilight but I'm not going to begrudge women for liking it when there are plenty of BS franchises over the years that have made dollars because of us guys. It's hypocritical for us to bash it because we've helped finance a lot of the crap that gets served to moviegoers.

Disney is kicking themselves for not owning Harry Potter.

They also hate themselves for not jumping on Twilight when they had the chance
Transformers too.

They got marvel though..they got them good.

Who said anything about begrudging women? And it's not like I don't bash BS franchises for men. :funny:

It's nowhere near hypocrisy.

There are women who take Twilight seriously and it affects relationships.

That's enough for me personally to dislike it.

I could be wrong but I believe it was stated somewhere that despite the 3D inflation boost this final potter film still sold more actual tickets during the first day than TDK or the Twilight movie. Over the entire weekend is still to be determined but for the single day it has sold more.

Anyone who loves Transformers and thinks that they are good movies can not be on any sort of high horse. Anyone who conisders the Twilight series well written do have questionable taste but alot of people have questionable taste so who gives a f**k?

Also Twilight did not come out this weekend so why are people b**ching about it again. Also people like Twilight, get the f**k over it. You can b**ch, like I do about Transformers, about it making money when it comes out but crying about it every other week is silly.

I think that Harry Potter is boring garbage and laugh when people call the books stories deep and consider them classics but you don't hear me b**ching about it every week.

It's still an impressive result without the 3D, in fact 3D or not I think records were going to tumble.

There are. I never heard anything with about Transformers ruining relationships, though it could have happened. :hehe:

This Twilight bashing session has gone on for too long. Let's move on and talk about the juggernaut that is Harry Potter.

Fun Fact: Despite HP being released, both Horrible Bosses and Zookepper had smaller than usual drops.

When I read them, I thought the first book was OK. Nothing great, but a decent start. By the second book, I hated Bella beyond words. The third book was pointless. And the fourth book was inexcusably bad.

Basically, the point of Twilight is that it's OK to give up your future, your family, and your friends...so you can spend eternity with a cute boy that's so perfect you remind yourself every day how much you don't deserve him. :barf:

Are the Hunger Games trilogy worth a read? Hopefully a better female protagonist than Bella Swan. I haven't had time for them but maybe in the future. Although I heard the last book is a let down, would you agree or no?

I thought they were terrific. Much better female lead. She's not perfect. She can bratty and thick-headed at times, but she's a great character. I thought they were unexpectedly brutal too. They also had a much more sensible love triangle arc as well. Can't wait for those movies.

What does that have to do with that part of my post? I know exactly what you are saying and for all I know it could beat TDK in ticket sales for the weekend but that still doesn't change the fact that 3D greatly skews numbers upwards.

^Yeah I get it, 3D greatly skews numbers; especially on the international level.

You're missing the point. I think he was talking more about actual point of views on relationships and how a relationship should be like.

You could settle down a little bit on the issue too.

And....we're getting way off base on the topic. Back to the box office talk, people (myself included). :cwink:
