A good movie beat another good movie's record. That's it. TDK isn't some sort of sacred cow. It's the second movie in a trilogy.

Twilight sucks ass, and woman are known for watching garbage at the cinema and on tv

With movies like Transformers making a lot of money it's safe to say that boys/men also watch a lot of garbage
:p

^Agreed, definitely not fair to attack women for that.

Transformers is our Twilight, put it like that. Let's not assume that dudes don't have just as ******ed franchises as females do.

Fanboys "cream their pants" over batman posters and gush over tom hardy's physique whilst hotly anticipating how the new car will look.

The twilight analogy is perfectly sound.

With all that Megan Fox/Shia press garbage, you can be sure there are more girls that watch TF than guys that watch twilight.

'Potter' Targets Foreign Opening Record
by Ray Subers
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows art 2 https://secure.boxofficemojo.com/users/?page=upgrade-premier&ref=newsbox300
Saturday Update: On top of its record-setting domestic opening day, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 also had another huge day overseas. The movie added an estimated $75 million from 59 territories to bring its international total to $157.5 million. It set opening day records in the United Kingdom and Mexico with $14.8 million and $6.1 million, respectively, and also established new Harry Potter records in Japan ($5.7 million), Brazil ($4.4 million), Spain ($3.3 million) and Poland ($1.25 million). Its highest-grossing territory to date is Australia, where it has earned $16.6 million in three days.

Domestic: $92,100,000 36.9%
+ Foreign: $157,500,000 63.1%
= Worldwide: $249,600,000

The foreign market tallies always seem so fickle.
I mean is it anything but a matter of how many territories the studio chooses to release in?

Last I heard Transformers hasn't even open in the major Asian markets and Green Lantern has similar if not worse situation. Foreign markets always distort things for me. All I know is that it makes it easy for the big 3D movies to reach that billion mark which used to be so cherished.

TDK was waaaay better than HP7-2. I don't see what is so special about this movie, it's not some sacred cow. It's the EIGHTH movie in an anthology...

Argument holds true both ways. A lot of people that love TDK don't care for Potter. A lot of people that love Potter don't care for TDK or CBM in general.

They are both not some sacred movies that can't be touched. Even Avatar will fall one day, we just don't know when. However Potter at this time means a lot to people since its the ending of 10 years of movies; many young adults have grown up with this series. So right now it is that huge, at least to the fans.

I don't understand the foreign markets at all.

Where I'm from theater going isn't very common but what about someplace big like China? Deathly Hallows part 1 opened up to $15 Million China but in America it was a $125 Million opening. But China has FOUR times as many people as America.

Either the people in China never go to the theaters in masses or ticket prices are no more than a dollar. In theory China should be the most movie marketable place on earth because it is a rich industralized country with far more people than America but that is not the case. Same for Russia.

Chinese people adore foreign movies, they really do. It's all about currency being different, specifically much lower than USD. I bet one ticket there costs around $2-4.

Besides, despite the fact that China is very large as a country, I assume it has much less thatres than the United States or any other more develop country. Plus, every year, the Chinese government sets a quote of, as I remember, no more than 50 films imported from the States in order to sustain competition for the locals. Censorship also takes place in making decisions over which films to allow to be released.

Lastly, even though Chine is rapidly growing, it's still far from being considered a developed country due to inappropriate distribution of resources and low standards and quality of living.

This is the conclusion of a saga that has spanned a decade and been widely successful. You had to expect this film would do well. It doesn't hurt TDK's success no matter how much Potter winds up making either.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Certainly didn't know China wasn't considered a developed country.

This is just one hell of an opening day. It made about a million more than Fast Five did in an entire weekend. That's incredible. In one day!

Holy ****.

I'm not bothered in the least this will break TDK's record. This happens all the time. I don't know why people feel threatened by it. It's still shocking that these numbers are real though.

Fixed

Why is there even a feeling of competition regarding this and TDK? Considering WB gets all the ****ing money from both of them, how much stock do you really have in it?

Fanboy wars. I don't care which one wins because I like both. I'm glad for Harry Potter's success.

I will be honest and say I hope Twilight doesn't break any records, and it's not because I'm a guy. There are way better chick flicks out there that I actually like.

It's because it sucks. The characters are some of the worst characters in the history of fiction. Well, at least Bella Swan is.

If you don't get it now I don't think your mind willl comprehend what anyone will tell you now.

Twilight rightfully deserves all that criticism. What that book teaches to young readers, especially females are atrocious. Bella Swan has set back feminism for about 50 years.

I love how Michael Bay promised such a better film with the last Transformers, admitting the flaws of the second film and swearing the third would be much better and such a great conclusion to his epic story. And we all bought into it. And Bay laughed all the way to the bank. The man is a genius.

Bay doesn't ever try to be other what he is, a director who thinks with his dick.

The fastest growing economy in the world, and arguably the best because of it, and yet one of the least developed..with a quality of living for the ages. That's the stuff of fiction.

People really do need to implement some perspective when they rant about Obama.

um...the third was much better:huh:
And as usual it had a plot, it just had a bunch of stuff that people don't wanna see in a TF movie are are more than willing to celebrate about any other film.

I'm a woman, I despise Twilight, and even if I didn't, I would recommend that you choose your insults more carefully next time.
