Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

Celebrities are human beings and as such have a right to make their views known. Sure, sometimes, you'll have people who'll spout nonsense like Wright just did. But let's not pretend that celebrities are the only ones to put their feet in their mouths on social media.

Ultimately, its up to each individual to decide what they do and don't post on their social media pages.
Agreed, but I also agree with Kahran that it’s certainly not smart for celebrities to choose to constantly broadcast their opinions online. Unlike us regular folk, their persona is a huge part of their product/careers and their worth to the public and the studios. One wrong tweet could cost them a job or even get them blacklisted in the industry. Social media inevitably isn’t “social” for them, it’s part of their business.

But like you say, they have a right to it, and it’s their gamble to make.

To be fair, this applies to normal people as well. Post obviously problematic garbage, and if people find out who you work for, there is a chance you get fired. Also overall, I just disagree. Mainly as this seemingly plays more as a cautionary tale for potentially awful people, to shield them from themselves. I say let them burn. I don't care if insanely rich people lose work for being crappy. Honestly, I am for it. I also think this ignores the value of the good, solid takes by actors and other celebrities on social media. Elliot Page does a lot of activism from their social media. During the election the Rock and Taylor Swift came out in favor of voting against Trump, which even if it didn't do much, is another example of some good that can come from celebrities using their social media like social media.

While there is always the potential to slip up and make an honest to Zod mistake, I do think social media use for it's intended purpose is fine for quality people, no matter their celerity status. If someones want to post like James Woods or JK Rowling, well there are other issues that person needs to address.

But everybody judges “quality people” differently, which is the point. Whatever opinions a celebrity posts, if it’s on a hot topic, they’re gonna lose fans and potentially employers on one side or the other. Regular joes like us don’t have to worry about that nearly as much because we don’t have millions of followers and whatever we tweet is highly unlikely to go viral and become a PR problem for us and/or our employers. There’s a good chance our employers would never even see it at all unless they were our friends on social media. And for the record, I never said I’m against it - on the contrary, I’m all for awful people showing their asses online, and I always like to learn that a celeb I like seems to be good people irl - I’m just saying, on their part, in terms of their career, it’s probably not smart. Unless you are extremely social media savvy and can play it very well, which probably only applies to about 5% of all humans and an even lower percentage of actors, lol.

Thankfully Hollywood is fake woke, and thus the chances of losing a job you already have for being awesome are low. You just won't get anymore. :o

I think it depends on the individual. Personally, part of why I love following someone like Natalie Portman on Instagram is because she is vocal politically and regularly talks to activists about serious issues like police violence and mass incarceration. And sure, she gets some flack from certain quarters for doing that, but on the whole I think she does more good than harm.

Where it goes wrong is when people start spreading lies and misinformation.

Does that mean this comes from the heart?

I like Natalie, her onscreen presence tend to give me a very comforting feeling about her as a person, and I'm pleased to see her holding nice opinions.

Exactly. I have the right to place my hands on a hot stove too. It doesn't mean it is a wise decision to make. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do something. Obviously if they, for example, value their views being heard more than they do their career they can do it. But that's usually not the case. That's their choice. Usually it is more like some football player saying something that burns all of his bridges and then he complains for the next five years about how no team will sign him.

Anne Hathaway is one of the few who actually sends stuff to whoever runs her Instagram (probably her manager or a close friend) to make sure it’s OK before posting. More actors should follow her example.
I would do this if I was in that position. A second opinion can go a long way in reining problematic things in. But one piece of common sense I’d advise is: If in doubt, don’t post.

Falcon & Winter Soldier is the Disney+ show that I'm anticipating the most. It basically seems to the followup to CA: TWS and Civil War which were two of my absolute favorite MCU films. I'm also in the mood for a good political action-thriller of this type and think it is a genre that lends itself to television well (I was a big fan of shows like 24 and Prison Break).
I just want them to make Bucky a badass again. Since he's a lead this time around, I'm hopeful we will get to see the powerful Winter soldier that was almost unstoppable.

Upon watching episodes 7 and 8 of Daredevil s3, I take back that one criticism I had about episode 3, it's awesomeness that compliments greatness that came before it.

I finally get to know Betsy, and I feel bad for poor Melvin.

Karen talking to Wilson like that, so casually, and getting too close while agitating him.... understandable, but reckless. The drama for TV is fabulous.

I keep forgetting Sony has Morbius and Venom 2 in the can and ready to go. Those films completely just disappeared from everyone's radar ever since the pandemic hit.

Venom: Let There be Carnage is the greatest title I’ve ever heard. My love of Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson and campy stupidity mean it’s honestly my second or third most anticipated upcoming CBM.

I don’t even like Venom as a character outside of the movie. Such is the majesty of Tom Hardy. He’s by far my favourite current big screen Marvel character/performance.

I’ll be honest Venom 2 has me very curious because I want to know if Andy Serkis is going to continue the campy tone of the first movie or go darker and more serious. I’m guessing Sony wants to keep the tone the same since the first movie did so well. If thats the case, screw it, go full campy bonkers, just do it well is all i ask.

I'll definitely be seeing that. The first film is not a serious film, but the symbiote had me cracking up every 2 minutes. :D

You can do both. Especially with Carnage.

I was going to say, I hope Carnage also has a bunch of killer dark jokes :D and is even more hardcore than the Venom symbiote. But the stakes could be genuine this time if they make Carnage seem dangerous enough allowing for an additional dimension over the first film which I liked for comedy alone.

I’ll say this in the movie’s defense, I think we as fans tend to forget that Venom was always a bit goofy in the comics. He looks like a scary badass mofo but Mcfarlane, Michelinie and the writers that followed all injected Venom with a darkly comedic sense of humor. Its just...I dont think the movie struck that tonal balance very well is all.
