Superman (2025) Teaser Trailer Reaction Thread

I haven't been to a Six Flags in like 20 years but that would be cool.
I was there when they had the Superman Tower of Power ride. We couldn't go on it because it was a 5 hour wait and the park would be closed by then. But I did get a Superman stuffed toy that I still have. I think this was around Superman Returns.

Yeah, I haven't been to Over Texas in almost a decade but the last time I went they still had all the old 90s comic design posters on the side while you're waiting for the ride.

Having seen the trailer, the film certainly looks like the first Superman film which truly reflects the current comics , and the film looks like it's very much made for the fans.

MOS and even SR , were trying to , an extent, bring the character into a more realistic and grounded world , with all of it's limitations.

Now of course, after BvS and the other DCEU films, the whole thing changed, but in MOS, it was a pretty limited and grounded world save Superman and Krypton.

This film, clearly takes place in a universe of the fantastic and the astonishing where a Superdog and Kaiju can live along side Lantern's and Robots .

So Gunn is definitely doing something different from Superman 78' and Man Of Steel, in terms of freshman outings of Superman films.

I didn't have the emotional reaction that alot of fandom had over the trailer, but I think the trailer is a solid intro into the new Status Quo.

My Superman was Christopher Reeve decades ago, and it was formative for me , so there really isn't going to be a Superman actor ,or film , or trailer , which can move me, or give me feels the way those first two films did .

So , I've already had my ultimate Superman films , warts , flaws, and all.

But this is this generations Superman film, and It looks like the trailer has won over most of the fan community, which is a good first step.

It wasn't a polarizing response , so , I think Gunn has earned some good will with this first look.

I too am a Snyder fan, but I don't consider myself a zealot or someone who only thinks Snyder can do it. I liked Snyder's more realistic approach, and I wish he had more opportunity to explore the universe he wanted to create.

That being said, I am also a straight up Superman fan, and I'm sure I'll love this iteration just as much if not more than I have loved the last iterations.

But I wanted to give my honest feedback of the trailer:

There's lots to like! I was pleasantly surprised that the campiness of the costume seems to work pretty well. I was never a big fan of the muscle suit, but I wasn't sure of this hooky approach Gunn was doing. Having seen it now, I feel like it's obvious that the suit is a reflection of his character, and it humanizes him, so I'm for it... right now.

I think Clark's look is great. I think the casting of Pa Kent and that moment in the trailer is good! Again, it humanizes him, even more than in Snyder's version. With Costner and Diane Lane, Superman's parents never pulled off the "down to earth" feel that I get from this casting.

I liked the shots of strife, and the kid whispering "superman." All the fighting imagery looks great to me. Looks like it's gonna be a fun movie. The actor sounds, looks, feels like Superman to me.

BUT.... I do have some glaring philosophical differences with the route that this movie seems to be taking.

Right off the bat... I hate Krypto. Hate the idea of it, completely. In my view, that makes this a cartoon. Are you telling me that Krypto came with Clark in the ship as a baby? Or are alien dogs somehow able to survive planetary explosions in a way that I'm not aware of? And how is the dog able to take him home? Is he a super smart dog that understand complex commands? It just doesn't work for me at all, and makes me scared for the whole film.

Guy Gardner similarly gives me a nonserious vibe that I dislike.

I don't like that we are back to the Donner score. I don't like the Daily Planet looking like a golden era newspaper, similar to all the renditions before, and I don't particularly like the casting or look of Lex from this trailer.

I'm difficult to please when it comes to Superman I admit, but Im gonna remain optimistic despite my misgivings..

I have some terrible news for you about what Superman is and who he is for.

Okay the farm shot looks terrible. The cattle being frozen in place like that makes it look fake.

Yeah I agree.

I like the way the movie is shaping up but I wish Gunn had used film stock instead. It’s far more forgiving than the ultra crisp digital camera lenses.

Umm, okay. I never said that Superman has to be one thing.

You don't own Superman. And neither do I.

I wonder if they'll revamp Six Flags to have a Metropolis area. 🤔

I dont think they are trolling just pointing out that you are upset that a comic book character is cartoony when for the most part these characters are written for younger people. Plus it is weird to have an issue with a super powered dog when the Superman is an alien with uber powers and there are kaijus walking around. ;)

Your critiques aren't invalid or anything, just interesting where you draw the line :)

You said you were scared for the whole film, which sounded like a suggestion you thought it might tank because of the cartoony dog vibes. Maybe that wasn't how you meant it though.

Yeah, picking on the loyal steadfast canine companion who is, Helping Superman and no problems with the Kaiju wreaking havoc on the city?

I’m not watching to stay away from spoilers but can someone just tell me if it was good or not? Heard it was kind of cheesy
