Geez hearing that score again…so many people, myself included, said including that theme is overly nostalgic and not a good idea but not using a John Williams score is like having a Ferrari and keeping it in the garage. I like they gave it just enough of a twist to modernise it.

I’ve been listening to it constantly at work

I loved Man of Steel and enjoyed BvS too (the extended cut, at least) so I'll admit I was sad to see Cavill go, though I'm not one of the Snyder cultists who are refusing to even watch the trailer for this. I'm a huge Superman fan for over 40yrs since I saw the first Reeve film, so I support the character, rather than some misguided loyalty to one director or actor.

Nonetheless, I think this trailer was excellent - the action looks great, curiosity is piqued (as it should be after any good trailer) particularly after that opening scene showing Supes bloodied and bruised, the inclusion of many DC supporting characters looks like it will flesh the movie out nicely, and I liked the guitar riff take on the Williams score. The Superman suit looks better in motion than the set photos (surprise, surprise) and I like the brighter and less muted colours Gunn is going for rather than a darker and grittier look.

Really like what I've seen of Corenswet. For a start, hes a big guy - Cavill/Hoechlin/Cain weren't exactly short actors, but I prefer my Superman to be taller than average and imposing - Reeve was 6"4, Welling and Routh around 6"3, and it looks like Corenswet definitely falls into that latter camp at 6"4 or so. There are a few scenes in the trailer where it's apparent he will bring plenty of emotion to the role. And I like that he's clearly making a return to the bumbling/slightly naive looking Clark Kent, distancing it from the more sure footed Superman. Can we mention also how good a job they've done in making Clark really look different from Superman? The fringe dropped forward, glasses, oversized suit and differences in demeanour seem to work better here than I've seen in other takes on the character - he really does seem like a different person.

My one and only gripe with the trailer are the unusual camera angles used in some scenes, which reminded me of Gunn's similar filming approach in the last Guardians of the Galaxy film. I find it hard to really describe them but you see it when Hawkgirl flies past and Superman is battling someone (Ultraman??) on the grass pitch. I found them a bit disconcerting in GOTG3 and same here, the motion is unusual and it takes me out of the scene a little bit. But that's probably just me, I haven't heard too many others complain about it.

Den of Nerds posted his reaction and apparently he has not let go of his Twitter feud with James Gunn.

Of course some of the reactors I was looking forward to were invited to see it yesterday. :funny:

I'm interested in seeing both Fantastic Four and Superman since I'm a Marvel ,and a DC fan.

So, I rooting for both to succeed .

At the end of the day, if they're both good films , the audience wins .
Is that... uh... allowed?

No, sir, you must pick one to love and the other to hate, it's the rule. :fuming::fuming:

I would argue that the charming silver age version of Superman vs. the cynical corporate version of the JL is exactly the note you would want to strike. The best Superman stories aren’t about Superman. They’re about how people react to him being a big blue Boy Scout, despite having the power to rule the world if he wanted to, and becoming better people in the process.

The somewhat cynical, what if the JL was a corporate product, tongue-in-cheek, parody is fun irreverent take (it was in the early 80s-90s), the one you bring in when you failed the original concept, cause you are out of ideas for it, or given up on anyone approaching it seriously, and you can only do meta(ish) self-referential parody of it.
Mostly using secondary offbeat quirky b-team characters, to mock the classic, maybe portraying them as laughably out of touch.
Which from what I see here, might be about where WB is at with this franchise.
And Gunn might be perfect for it.

No, point was that is an odd way to launch the franchise, while some fans are hinging their hopes of the new DC Cinematic Universe and a positive JL.

That said, seeing Kypto and hearing that score was wonderful, hopeful and uplifting, pretty close to my ideal Superman.
I hope they are not just set up for a sardonic take.

I don't particularly like Gunn's sense of humor, his taste in music, or his visual style for the most part... but I like him. His stuff ALWAYS has heart, that's what hooked me into Peacemaker. Beyond the heartfelt stuff, Superman doesn't seem like an obvious choice for Gunn, but he's clearly killing it. For me, this is the CBM of 2025 by a country mile.
I love his humor. I can see why a lot do not. He is old school in his way of thinking. Based on his old diatribes with more conservative views. Yes, you are correct in his musical choices. He lost me in an interview when he said Led Zeppelin had no talent...:lol:

I see this as probably an accurate description of Guy Gardner. But Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific are not “offbeat” or “quirky” and other than maybe not being completely familiar to the general audience, they have never been “b-team” characters. Hawkgirl featured very heavily in the JL animated series and in the comics, Mister Terrific has had a long history of leading the Justice Society.

Plus those characters are not comedic characters at all. To the contrary, Mr Terrific is known as one of the more stoic characters in DC. His whole backstory involves his genius as well as the death of his family.

I’d be shocked if they existed in this film to “mock the classic.”

I can get your concern simply over the fact that they may not be the most familiar. And I know that Gunn has made a rich history of incorporating quirky and comedic characters into his films. But unless they depart drastically from the source material, that probably won’t be Mr Terrific or Hawkgirl.

It took me 5 million watches to just finally realize they never had a "Superman" title card in the trailer. Just the release date.
Amateur. I noticed that on first watch. :o

Also, they have the DC Studios logo where you would normally have the title card. Suggesting that's what "It Begins" is actually referring to, which I found a bit cute.
