Superman Confidential Preview

I love Sale's artwork, but why does his Superman always have squinty eyes? He looks like he's constantly doing a Clint Eastwood impression.

And thats a bad thing?

Would have been nice if Tim Sale was the artist for Batman Confidential too.

At the very least, Sale is the artist for one of the titles. I couldn't be happier with that.

Sale's Superman always looks like he has downs syndrome to me. :(

Who says someone with downs syndrome can't have superpowers?

Probably ment looking forward to the writing of the comic.

So wait, didn't they go to kind of a lot of bother to retcon-punch Birthright into continuity?

WTF?

Yeah, and even then, DC was still on the fence about it, rather than committing to cementing Birthright into continuity.

So, on the plus side, this series is good for finally giving us a chronicle of Superman's early career post-IC (even though you just know that this too will be retconned in the near future).

On the negative side though, it makes all the hassle that DC went through in recent years to say "MOS is the origin story!," "No, Birthright is the origin!" completely pointless and for nothing, because now they're saying "Ha! We had you guys fooled all along! This is the real one!"

LOL I can't agree more.

Although really this isn't even the origin story, just a story about Kryptonite's origin.

So it's more like now they're saying "Hah, we had you guys fooled all along - there IS NO origin story! We are utterly refusing to establish any kind of internal consistency whatsoever!"

To be honest,I think there's never going to be a definitive origin.People say it's MOS,some say it's BR,then you got all these continuity punches and criseseseses,it's friggin' crazy!!!

I'm getting this instead of Action.

Superman Confidential #1 is scheduled to be out November 1.

Just got it. Its a very good read. It has the All-Star feel to it which makes me wonder even more why not make these books into a DC Ultimate line? Also is Tony suppose to be Lex because that guy on the cover of issue 3 is Tony.

Given that the solicitation up there says that Tony is going to be "squaring off with Lex" in #3, I highly doubt that they're supposed to be the same person. Unless post-IC Lex has multiple personality disorder. Which, actually, might be good if it could wave away the ****** Lex we saw in "Up, Up, and Away" as an errant, stupid personality that Lex has since rid himself of. But that's too much to hope, I'm sure. :(

that was pretty cool how the first quarter of the issue came from the point of view of kryptonite itself.

That was interesting. Oddly, Sale's art seemed to take on some of the characteristics of Cooke's in the opening bits. It wasn't until the characters started showing up that I was 100% sure it was Sale penciling.

Anyway, I'm not thrilled about this Gallo character. It makes sense that there were other corporate moguls hanging around Metropolis before Lex consolidated his position as THE rich guy of the city, but I find myself not really caring about that or the story possibilities it might bring. Plus, the whole thing just seems awkward since you'd think we would've heard about Gallo before if he's so important that Perry assigned his three most trusted employees to investigate him.
