Superman Returns Superman Returns:Final Thoughts

The following quote from Jam! ShowBiz is a reflection of how SR did not connect with the masses as a Superman film as reflected in Brandon Routh's situation today. Kal Penn has offered Routh a cameo role in the next Kummar film which is sort of sad really. Had SR actually made people believe a man could fly again Routh would not now be fading back into anonymity:

"Or that Brandon Routh, touted just 12 months ago for super-stardom as soon as he was announced as the new Man of Steel in Superman Returns, would remain more anonymous than not in the first days of 2007 after the would-be blockbuster sputtered more than soared?"

Yep, this quote from one source definately says it all, it should speak for everbody, because people don't have their own voices.

Kevin Spacey did a cameo in Austin Powers...bigger actors have done lesser cameos. It happens.

Routh is not Brad Pitt, he has one big movie under his belt, heck Spacey said this was the biggest movie he has personally ever been involved in.

See, Singer's film has split the fanbase!
I don't think they split up the franchise... he just split up the fanbase on how Superman should be perceived on screen, but then again, that was pretty much split up to begin with... he just split it up more.

After getting this on DVD I have found myself liking it more and more. I had a few issues when I watched it at the movies. But there are gone now.

I personally can't watch it anymore... I plan on selling it some time this week.

Well I'm sure if I watched it loads and loads I would put it back on my shelf for months. Has it worn out its use for you? Seen it a lot of times?

it's not a factor of being worn out, I just don't like it. Since it's release from theater to DVD, I've only seen it 12 times... 11 times at the theater, and once on DVD.

I'm just not impressed.

Fair is fair.

At least you can say you were very thorough in your dislike for the film. I hate it when people talk about it when they have not seen a film.

I don't dismiss other people's opinions as much as other people here do, but when someone blindly screams that they love something and then accuse others that don't of being wrong, yeah, I'm gonna ignore that.

For some reason you think that I don't accept the fact that people like the movie... and that's not true. In fact, I have no problem with it... it makes the board more enjoyable with discussions, but don't expect the haters of the film to not challenge your opinion of the film, like you do to us...

I haven't dismissed anyone's ideas or opinions regarding the film. I've said many times that I personally enjoyed the film for my own reasons, regardless of what anyone else thought. I understand some people's disdain for the film and that's fine, but to blatantly say someone elses opinion is wrong just strikes me odd.

I didn't mention you by name (or anyone else for that matter), I was generalizing when I asked the question of others not accepting that many people like the film; perhaps that was wrong but it's definitely a theme through many of these boards.

Ultimately what Showtime said is true, in that these boards are for discussion and debate. I try to remain above board with my posts, not going after or intending to offend anyone and if it seems that I've done otherwise, I apologize.

I completely agree, but the truth is, the haters are not the only ones who do that...

some of it was okay, but I have yet to find a movie medium that effectively displays what Superman should be like... Donner's vision came pretty close though.

I took a long break from this movie and gave it another chance the other night hoping to see something redeemable. Unfortunately my feelings haven't changed from the first time I saw it and similar to the first experience it was a chore to get through. Calling it a disappointment would be an understatement. There are a myriad of problems plaguing SR but the main three are glaring...the screenplay, the pacing (especially the first half hour) and lack of originality (pretty much the whole damn movie). To me SR is basically an abridged version of Superman '78...a vague, empty pseudo-remake that falls short in just about every aspect.

i think everyone would be even more happy if we would get this:
Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure "Superman Returns," a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Yeah, the movie I had in my head before its realease was better than the one I got.

Alright what was so bad about Superman Returns? I want answers and answers I haven't gotten.

It was a good film with some great effects, and a really emotional story.

Plus I loved the whole Clark battling the basic loss of Lois

There was nothing terrible about it. People just like complaining.

ummm.....no offense ultimate movie-man, but.......if you read through just a few pages from ANY OF THESE THREADS......you'll get your answers ( our OPINIONS as to why we didn't like SR ).

Well there's no point to complain about something you don't like because you're just wating evergy. And why waste energy on something you don't like and start wasting energy on something you do!?

(Not directed at you, Zen Ith, you seem to like to the movie too...buddies? :p)
