DC Films Swamp Thing

I think aside from Superman: Legacy , this movie is the one I am most interested in seeing. If done right a 'true' horror film in a DC setting can be a home run.

I really hope this gonna be as good as the 2019 Swamp Thing show, that one was brilliant and good af, really need to rewatch the old 2 films

I dont remember the old films that much, i do remember the 90s show that was kinda silly since i watched it like 5 yrs ago and i do remember the second film was lowkey a big downgrade from the first one

If DC uses the gothic setting of Swap Thing & does it right, horror fans & comic fans together can be introduced into something new & dare I say...different?

That is why i was obssesed with the 2019 show, it was amazing, as a horror and DC fan, is probably one of my favorite shows of DC, even when the last episodes rush and cut, the 90s show is silly and dumb but still taps a bit into horror, its really great having 2 shows and 2 films, hopefully this time we can have a full trilogy

I absolutely LOVED the show.

I loved that we also got Blue Devil, Phantom Stranger, and Madame Xandau in the show as well.

The sudden cancellation of the show was a shock. It appeared to have fared well with reviewers and in ratings, yet the exact figures are unclear. The rationale provided was somewhat cryptic; perhaps changes in management played a role. Does anyone have insights into its performance in terms of numbers?

i'm guessing James is probably just letting him do whatever he wants. Which is probably for the best route both Marvel and DC should be doing with their movies honestly. If you want to do a shared universe fine, but it shouldn't be required that every movie needs to be linked or reference other things.

I don't think it's all or nothing, and hopefully that's the DCU approach. Not every movie needs to have added characters and cliffhangers to sell the next project. Think back to Phase 1 MCU where we salivated over a reference to the super solider serum in The Incredible Hulk, or Erik Selvig referring to a friend who's an expert in gamma radiation in Thor. It's just little lines, or background noise that flesh out a larger universe in this early films.

Plus the SHIELD agent who asks if the Destroyer in Thor is "one of Stark's." That's why Phase 1 is still my favorite, even though Winter Soldier is my favorite film. There's small connective tissue here and there and sure, it's building to Avengers, but there was more individuality with the films and it was mostly directors just making movies. I think the biggest example is Thor and how you can clearly see Kenneth Branagh's imprint over that film's direction.

This is all wishful thinking and won't happen, but given the connectivity between film and TV, and because I loved the series, I would love if the Swamp Thing film was basically a season 2/continuation of the quickly departed DC Universe series. You already have the background in that first season, and the DCU brain trust could just say 'Hey, if you're interested in the background, check out the first season of this show.' You could retroactively tie that into the film, especially since the show ended on a cliffhanger.

Again, it won't happen, and this is just my love of the show talking, but I would love if that was the case. I maintain that Swamp Thing has probably the best sense of atmosphere and tone that I've seen in a comic book TV show.

His approach is the right one for me too. Clean slate, stand alone movie, no baggage. I'm in.

James Gunn has revealed more about the DCU movie that was scrapped due to issues with the script, even though a director was already attached.

Last month, the DC Studios co-CEO revealed that he'd "killed" a project that had already been greenlit because "the screenplay wasn't ready," although which project that might have been remains under wraps.

"We had a movie that was greenlit. We got [the] second draft and [the] third draft, and it just wasn't changing. It wasn't getting better," Gunn said in a new interview with NPR. "It was staying in the same place. And I said, we can't make this film. We can't. It's not good. We know it's not good.

Something tells me that it was Swamp Thing.
