Syfy Nearing Series Order For "12 Monkeys" Adaptation

This is SyFy, who just admitted to changing everything from "the top down" which probably means that they are getting rid of the fact that the main protagonist is no longer motivated by the scene of his own death. They are changing the time travel rules, that are a big part of the tone of the film. Especially the ambiguity of the practice of time travel.

They even name dropped Looper that is in no way shape or form anything like 12 Monkeys in the least.

What part of this sounds faithful to the film at all?

I'm sure it'll be no more or less faithful to the film than the film was to La Jetée. You never know what kind of concepts might come into the fold down the line. But in the meantime, I don't think 100% faithfulness would feasible in terms of making a series. Just retelling the story of the film over a prolonged period of time wouldn't seem smart to me.

I don't think it would be a good idea either. I just feel the show would be better without having to do certain things to make the fans of the film happy.

For those that cant watch it I suggest downloading Hola for firefox

Like what I'm seeing.

All the Nikita people involved with this both behind and in front of the camera means I'll have to give this a shot. 12 Monkeys is one of my favorite movies ever, so it's gonna be hard for me to watch this without comparing. Still, that trailer's a decent start. Not great, but not bad, either. Lacking all the Gilliam-ness of the movie, but that's to be expected. Even if they're aiming for a less quirky, more tonally straight-forward sci-fi series, the basic premise still has a lot of potential in that arena, imo.

I spy Nikita actors.

Looks like a Syfy show...I think the Ascension teaser looked more cinematic but we'll see.

holy hell this looks great, I'm sold.

Looks like it could be good. I wish though that they had gone the Fargo route with this... Had this series be a continuation of the story of the movie, rather than a reimagining of it. Instead of playing Cole, Stanton could have been a new prisoner sent back after Cole's death. At the end of 12 Monkeys, the people in the future realize David Morse's character is the one who releases the virus, but if I remember right, it's never clear that Cole is the reason they know that. He makes a phone call and informs them that Goines is not the one they are looking for, but at that point he still doesn't know who it is. They could have played with that a bit. Since we're dealing with time travel here, it wouldn't really matter that they appear to get Morse shortly after Cole is killed.

Just finished watching first seven episodes of #12Monkeys. It’s freaking great! Super clever and cool. Kudos to @traviswf & @TerryMatalas!

^^^Nice to hear. I haven't loved anything SyFy has put out since BSG/Caprica, but if they're looking for that kind of lightning in a bottle again, I guess doing a "re-imagining" of another great sci-fi property isn't a bad place to start.

I'm liking what Ive seen so far,Hopefully this turns out better than ''The Asension''

I agree, I was looking forward to Ascension, and I didn't like it, so this is already better.

I haven't seen the movie, and I know very little about it, other than it involves time travel. The trailer looks cool and I love time travel, so I'm in.

Tonight @12MonkeysSyfy premieres on @Syfy & I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Think #Fargo style reworking. Watch it

I liked it. Need to rewatch to get a few things I think I missed, but the series looks good so far.

The pilot was better than I expected. I like the casting of Zeljko Ivanek as Leland Frost. The paradox scene with the watches was pretty cool. I'm interested in seeing where the series takes it from here.

I enjoyed it as well,my only problem is that I find it hard to relate to the main character (Cole)

The show's off to a pretty good start, imo.

I mean, there are aspects I don't care for (the cinematography being a big one, and I'm still not sold their ability to sustain it as an ongoing series), but so far it seems like a good, thoughtful, well-paced adaptation to me.

Yeah, I liked it as well. The change of sex of Goines is very interesting too.
