Taken 2

Well I'm seeing this on Saturday regardless for a friend's birthday (who loves Liam Neeson like he's his father :p) so I'll have to endure this whether it's crap or not.

I read that Taken 2 has too much up close shakey camera. What? The first one benefited from having fast but clean looking action where you can see everything. It's like a de-evolution.

Thats unfortunate. With Taken I thought Pierre morel struck a nice balance in staging the action, where the shots were close enough and fast enough that you feel the brutality and power of neeson, but also not too close and fast that you cant see and it feels choppy. The choice of director always bothered me for this one. I mean compare the camera and editing of Transporter 1&2 to Transporter 3.

Thats my one pet peeve about fight scenes in any movie, pull the camera back and let us see the action we paid to see. I know the director is trying to create the fight atmosphere but good lord. Same with transformers, its was like someone shaking toys in your face and asking you to follow along.

I still blame lethal weapon 1 for this style. That entire fight scene at the end.

This isn't good. First BL sucked and now this isn't looking as hot. I'll still check this out today though. I just pray to God that SF delivers the goods and Bond can leave all these pretenders to the throne kissing his British butt.

That's Olivier Megaton for you.

I'm surprised people are surprised. The signs were all there: A terrible director, a movie that's made only because the original was a cult fave, everything (even entire lines) is rehashed. It's only natural.

Olivier Megaton directed it? well that explains it. lol

Im not surprised ethier, Granted you would hope with liam's recent movies that he wouldnt lend himself to a crappy movie but I saw the signs when production was announced. knowing the way of things I wouldnt be surprised ethier if this is number 1 over the weekend a very close 2nd. Theres just too many fans of the 1st who Im sure wont care who the director is or the story but would go just to see liam kick arse and threaten people.

I'm gonna follow the coming soon.net review on this one...

Maybe the third Taken can involve Alien Abduction.

Mix Taken with Avatar & have Bryan freeze himself Austin Powers style. Then the guys on Earth sends Bryan to Pandora to kill all of the Navi. They would not stand a chance. Have Liam Neeson in the next Predator movie as the only human guy & he goes to the Predator Home Planet & he kills them all. That is $

At least with Transformers he had a reason to. Robots are very expensive, the least amount possible you can show the better for the budget

Saw the film. It was alright. I enjoyed it better than BL but the thing that's very noticable is that the film feels watered down. I watched Taken last night in anticipation for Taken 2 and it's just underwhelming.

I could give a rats behind about the saving money for the budget. Some people waited forever to see in that case optimus and megatron duke it out and if Im gonna plunk down $35 for me and my wife to go see it then I better be able to see what is going on. Not what some tightwaud in the editing room wants to show me.

was the story more or less the same?

this iwould have been better if they went with the original idea of having the daughter rescue the father and be the hero.

I saw this coming from a mile away. I knew it'd be a rehash from the moment I learned that there'd be a Taken 2. Taken was just 1 shot story. A sequel is obviously just a money-grab... But oh well... I'll watch it anyway this Monday...

I doubt the original idea would get butts in seats. Liam's line is more or less a meme now. It sells.

That sounds about right. I think my biggest problem is that can smell a better movie in it. The plot was fine enough for me, but man does it feel soft as hell compared to even the pg-13 version of Taken, let alone the r rated one. And olivier megaton stinks with fight scenes. Maybe the worst director of fights ive ever seen. Im actually a fan of closeups and shaky cameras but only if they have a brutal edge. Megaton said an almost 2 hr unrated cut will be on bluray. Hopefully it has the edge.

Does Neeson at any point actually say "I've been taken, too"?

Liam Neeson never gets taken. Even when he is tied up and in the back of a car the villains only think they've taken him, but they are actually the ones trapped and about to die / be interrogated / get their butts kicked.
