The Flash Teddy Sears IS Jay Garrick

I suppose they could always retcon it now that Henry Allen is actually not his real name and he's really Jay Garrick, just like Harrison Wells is just an alias for whoever the actual Reverse Flash really is.

Henry didn't seem all that startled when the Flash broke into the prison cell to rescue Joe West from Mist/ Kyle Nimbus and he saw Barry (who was vibrating his face). What if the 2nd speedster at the time of Barry's mother's murder wasn't Barry come back to the past to save his younger self, but was actually Henry Allen using his own speedster powers because he's previously been Jay Garrick and was trying to get Barry to safety to protect his own son? Maybe he somehow lost his powers too, as a result of fighting the Reverse Flash?

So Barry Allen would be his real name, because that's what he was born with and is on his birth certificate, but Henry Allen's birth name might actually be Jay Garrick.

I don't know... that whole idea just seems to reek of "Robin John Blake" and "Khan Harrison."

No.

As good as JWS is as Henry, no one is telling me that he would'nt have been even more amazing as Jay. Seeing as this show likes to riff on the 90's show for the fans - what would have been better than JWS playing the 'previous' Flash when he's the previous Flash in real life?

What could have been...............

Totally. I think most of us for the longest time held on to hope that JWS was cast as Jay when the news broke regarding his involvement in the new series. Echoing your sentiments, he's great as Barry's dad but would've been amazing as Jay.

Anyone care to guess who they could cast as Jay Garrick?

I did a quick search on top actors on the CW... Matthew Davis from the Vampire Diaries would be a great Jay Garrick if Barry was to go back in time.

Does anyone agree or know more about him? I think he has the look and from a few interviews i've seen he seems like a pretty nice dude.

Actually I think James Van Der Beek for Jay Garrick. Remember JWS was his dad on Dawson's creek. So JWS would be daddy flash twice.

So what do you guys think about the possibility that Eobard may have already encountered a version of Jay Garrick in his past experiences?

When Jay's helmet appeared from the black hole, Eobard seemed to recognize it right away. There have even been some posters to suggest that Eobard may have battled with Jay in the past, where those battles may not have always gone in his favor, thus a sense of fear being present where Thawne would prefer not to encounter Jay, hence why he was in a rush to leave after seeing the helmet.

Herolee I think your spot on. Time to go!!! Eobard recognized it. What if Jay was in the speed force himself but couldn't get out. The helmet may have been thrown as a weapon?

Course the end all of this just whets our appetite. It will be a long summer. I want my Arrow,Flash, gotham ,AOS, Agent Carter, Supergirl , and LOT to start

Could just be that Eobard knew he would have more trouble fighting a seasoned Flash like Jay and wanted to get home before there were any more hiccups in his plan as opposed to having actually faced him previously.

Personally I would like to see a Jay Garrick be a Flash of the 1940's/1950's and possibly have been in WW2.

I want Garrick to be from a parallel Earth. They've kicked the concept around enough to get my appetite churning for more exploration of that. It'd be sort of disappointing if they just dropped it.

The parallel Earth could be an alternate time where - for whatever reason - society never technologically or socially advanced past the 1940's. That way, both the "back in time" and "parallel Earth" Jay Garrick characterizations can be compromised.

Agreed, I was thinking this myself when I first saw the helmet

Here's a thought: what if Jay Garrick is an alternate version of Barry Allen? I.e, what if the Barry we saw with the white on his suit got stuck in the past and adopted a new identity as Jay Garrick. That could explain how Wells knows about his helmet. Maybe, when fighting the Barry he knew, he also fought the older Barry as Jay Garrick. Just a thought.

CW superhero series “The Flash” is adding two more DC Comics characters to its heroic roster.

The executive producers announced at Comic-Con on Saturday that the characters of Jay Garrick and Patty Spivot will appear on the series in season two.

Comic-book aficionados know Jay as the first character to hold the mantle of The Flash, making his debut in the 1940s. Teddy Sears (“Masters of Sex”) will play the early speedster on the CW series. Eagle-eyed “Flash” fans may have spotted Jay’s iconic winged helmet in the season one finale. In the show, Jay is a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.

“Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. “It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”
