They're probably going to put spiderman on hold for the venom spinoff.

It sucks that they won't use the same actor for continuity purposes. If Venom flops, I can see an eventual reboot of spiderman but not a continuation.

I really think a Venom film could work. Of course,it has to be done right. Venom's a character that does have alot to work with,so if the film does bomb then you know people didn't take it seriously enough to write a good script or hire great actors or whatever.
I mean,we all know that the fan base is there. It's not like Electra where most of the non comic book fans never even heard the name. Venom IS Spidey's most popular villain,after all.
I do think that Spidey 4 is more a priority at the moment.

i will say the wolverine movie looks awesome, but because its not only him in it.
if they made a venom movie, it would be intresting, it'd be the first marvel movie, centered around the villian. plus, venom is too cartoony to put in a movie imo, at least for now. i thought he looked great in sm3, but if they would have thrown in his tongue, which makes him "venom" it would have looked too cartoony, and thats the challenge with comic books, keep true to them, but also make them somewhat realistic.
idk, i'd rather see a spidey 4 than a venom movie.

It won't replace it but it'll come first i think. Venom has alot of potential but they have to approach it in the right way. Throw away everything from SP3 and you should be ok

oh ****. If they put SM4 on hold for this POS, **** it I'm done and Sony screwed the pooch. SM3 despite whatever missteps it may have been was salvagable for the series. This is jumping the shark/nuking the fridge, whatever the **** you want to call it.

Hopefully this will die a quick death in pre-production.

Jacob Estes seems compotent, and his film Mean Creek is critically acclaimed. So I'll keep my reservations to myself until I see exactly what his Venom screenplay looks like.

Firstly Venom spinoff is unlikely to replace Spidey 4. I mean Raimi has enough clout to keep his franchise from being nixed in favor of a spinoff. I mean 3 out of 4 years there won`t be a spidey sequel and they can bung a venom movie in one of the intervening years.

Secondly, on terms of changing the character design from spiderman 3 they evidently had this in mind when they put venom in spidey 3. I mean they left a bit of the symbiont in conner`s lab and the venom in spidey 3 was a young guy called Eddie Brock JR. So I assume the spinoff will feature the escape of that symbiont fragment and it finding the heavy set eddie brock sr.

Thirdly, Carnage will prob be the villain as Carnage is unworkable for a spidey film and Carnage is about the only villain who could make Venom look like a hero.lol.

The ony reason his name had the "Jr." is because Raimi wanted his Venom to be Ultimate Venom Lite. The Brock Sr. fan theory is just that- a fan theory.

Oh yes reboot the billion dollar franchise where the last one was the most successful in the series and redo the origin again so Gwen Stacy can be in it along with mechanical web-shooters. Honestly, only fanboys can think that sounds like a logical idea. Besides we've seen Spidey's origin done nearly perfectly. I'm not saying we can't have an improved Spidey movie, but I'm saying we can do it without a reboot which would just be a huge step backwards, especially so soon after the first movie.

P.S. While I'd say TDK is the best superhero movie ever made, the Nolan Batman movies wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Raimi Spidey movies which were critical and box office successes for more than that "cheezy crap." Whatever.

Everyone has a right to their opinion,of course. But I find this funny. Alot of you are putting this down and it's not even in production yet,or even beyond the planning stages. Give it a chance! I remember that alot of people were upset when that first Joker picture of Heath Ledger was released. "Oh,it looks stupid!" or "That's doesn't look like the Joker I know!" And look and how good he was.

I'll gladly give a Venom movie a chance, but the odds are against it being good, honestly. Venom is a very shallow character, and a 2 hour movie based on a guy whose sole purpose is to "kill Spider-man", sounds kind of weak. The only way I see it working, is if Spidey's trying to "save" Eddie is what causes Venom to lay off trying to kill Spidey...although he saved Eddie while trying to kill the symbiote. It's not going to be easy.

As for the kids on here who live in their mama's basements and cry about how the series needs a "reboot", I laugh at you. Sony laughs at you. Everyone here laughs at you.

Just thought you should know. Billion dollar franchises don't need rebooting.

The Raimi Spidey Flicks only made that much Money because of the name Spider-Man......and now imagin how much a quality Spidey Flick could make on the Box Office.This is only possible with a restart of the Franchise.I know it won´t happen now but Definitaly in a few Years after Raimi killed the franchise with a fourth boring film.

He had no choice but to shove Venom into it because of the studio pressuring him and that tosser AA telling him all the fans wanted it. If they had let him make SM3 and 4 back to back, as they might do with 4 and 5 there wouldn't have been any problems.

It´s not because of Venom the Spiderman Movies sucked ,it´s because of the crappy Lovestorry and the boring formula Raimi stucks to.........i mean watching the Spiderman trilogy is like watching three times the same Movie only with different Villans.

I highly doubt the Venom spinoff will replace Spider-Man 4. I think they will be their own separate films.
