i didnt read the reviews. were they really that bad? were they more bad then for transformers. it made a lot of money.

do reviews even matter when it comes to big budget action movies?

transformers actually got good to modest reviews, alot of people saying it was bays best movie, this didn't seem to get much in the way of reviews

You know, I actually don't see Salvation dropping as hard as Wolverine. I could see an under 60% drop actually. Something like 58-59%.

That's a good example of how meaningless these figures are. A 58% drop on $43m is $18m whereas a 69% drop on $85m is $25m.

What in the hell happened? I figured at the very least it would have a good opening weekend before word of mouth spread. Regardless of peoples' opinions of the film, the previews made this movie look like gold.
People are tired of Terminator and Terminator wasn't ever really some mega grossing franchise to begin with. The only Terminator movie that really hit was T2.

Those numbers are lumped into the domestic gross so it doesn't matter.

I had a feeling that something was going to beat 'Salvation', but I wasn't expecting it to be 'Night at the Museum'. I was expecting it to be either 'Angels & Demons' or 'Up'. However, 'Up' is probably going to demolish 'Salvation' come time next week.

Up could do well. But really, it seems like a one time film for people.

TF2 is when the **** will hit the cieling. And ST's numbers will be gone.

That doesn't have me worried. I'm glad this film made it's money back (even though I have yet to actually see it), this film will end up with what (overall) anyways?... $400M worldwide? 'Salvation', I must say (now that I've seen it), I'm kinda glad that it didn't do so well. Although I do believe in giving people "second chances", the world they've built up for this film is just so dull and the characters are just so hollow... I really don't care. I'd rather see another fresh take on it in about 5-10 years. McG's good with action, but he's no ----in' good with actors.

This is actually the biggest a terminator film has opened, even after adjusting for inflation

T2 = 31 -> 48
T3 = 44 -> 51

Yeah, as well as hitting the theatres.

That hasn't exactly deterred Bay. I heard from some interview with Seth Green that he even called him to say he loved the Baysplosions jab at him on Robot Chicken.

While I didn't love TS, I refuse to believe it's a worse film than Night at the Museum 2. I shouldn't criticize a movie before seeing it, but if the trailer for Museum 2 is any indication of the quality of the actual movie then it would rank as one of the worst movies ever. I guess it just goes to show with a PG rating even horrible movies can do well.

NATM is a great family movie, I know most of you are too young to have kids but if you did you'd know how great of a movie it is for a family to watch together. Unlike TS which is entertaining to only teenagers and could never be called an adult mature film. NATM does better at what it's supposed to do then TS does.

Amen. When you get into a relationship or you have kids, your mindset changes. And if it doesn't, well...your family is gonna be ****ed up.

T:S has the heart of the series and plenty of spectacle with a central character as compelling as any from the earlier entries...it did fine at what it's supposed to and hardly appeals strictly to teens.

It's a shame that if Terminator is rebooted in 5-10 years we'll probably lose Bale. I thought he was a perfect John Connor.

I have a good feeling Bale will be back, in T5 and even T6.

Actually I have two girls their ages 12 and 9. I love family movies and we go to the movies together all the time. I can't wait to go and see UP this weekend. I think there are alot of great family films that have come out in recent years and we even enjoyed the first Night at the Museum when it came out. Like I said in my earlier post I really shouldn't pass judgement on a film without seeing it, but I can't remember seeing a trailer worse than the one for Museum 2. If the trailer is at all indicative of what the actual movie is like then I can't imagine that it could be very good. Like I said though I can't wait to see Up this weekend.

I wonder how the Bat Nuts feel about Ben Stiller kicking Christian Bales ass
Talk to me when Chris Nolan gets his ass kicked by Michael Bay when/if they open on the same weekend. :funny:

Studios won't make the same mistake.

Nowadays, the only true draw is Will Smith.
I agree.

And the fact that NATM 2 had
1) shorter running time ( 105 min as opposed to T4's 130 min )
2) played in more theaters including IMAX
Ugh, why did NATM2 get IMAX? Giant robot awesomeness should be up on that big screen instead! :cmad:

My honest guess is because of his reported temper. The man is apparently a notorious prick.
Wouldn't blame the women then! :funny:

I think TS's underperforming OW was mostly market overload. Three big action movies in one month, with giant robots which seemed Transformers-esque. It might have fared better in the fall instead, out of Wolverine/Star Trek/Transformers' shadow. I don't think it was the reviews - reviews don't matter as much as general word of mouth, and word of mouth doesn't kick in until the second weekend anyway. Opening weekend revenue is all about hype, prime release date, and marketing.
