Iron Man Terrence Howard Officially Cast As "James Rhodes"

To me, ideally, Nona Gaye would've been perfect. But that's just me.

Indeedie
But you didn't have that album, [from '94 was it?] I still got that Video somewhere.

Did that have "Love Sign" on it?
She's a rare occurance; a good-looking woman who can sing AND act.

What's funny is I also think Idris Elba might be a good choice for Black Panther & they played a married couple in "Gospel".

Then Kathy Bates should be Storm.
And gimmicks wear out after a while.:hyper:

The Howard Rollins thing was from an Episode of Bernie Mac-where Halle guest stared in by the by. I love that line..."HE dead!"

"There is nothing wrong w/ Gimmicks-our research has shown that the American T.V. Audience responds to them"

Sincerely,
Network T.V. execs
CSI, Law and Order
and NBC's Heores creators.

Really I just like the Tick:hyper:

She had a bop gun type of thing goin then, I think Prince was workin w/ her then.

Shout out to Donny Simpson and Sherry Carter-from a time when I spent hours watchin' B.E.T. before 'the man' bought it.

That would be "Love Sign". I remember the video; I think she was an assassin ired to take Prince out & wound up sleeping w/him instead.

Clearly you're thinking way too much with your downstairs brain, guy.

"This ain't Shawshank Redemption..." So are your standards that low, and you don't care what you get as long as Storm is chocolate and sexy and model-esque? That's bull dookie, dude. Tyra can't act, Iman can't act, and Naomi Campbell (probably next on your list ;)) can't act either.

She can act well enuff to pull off the job with an ensemble cast.

If Singer had given Bassett the crap (lines) he gave Berry, Bassett (being a talented actress) could've spun it into something far better than what we got, the same of which can't be said for Banks or the rest of her runway flukies.

Bassett:

Her face is too full! Yes she's still beautiful, but she doesn't make it. Plus she looks too old. [/B] Nice sketch.

See, you seem to think we're talking about Storm the way Halle played her. The way she was written, any black actress would do. Any woman who could fill out a black leather bodysuit & stand pretty while lightning flashed around her, & that's what we got. They went w/Halle b/c of how she looked in the costume & little else. Her strongest non-combat moments were pretty much when she was arguing w/Logan. She wasn't made a leader, she displayed none of the strength she has in the comics. As insignificant as they made the character, they probably could've gotten Tyra or any number of untalented bimbos & gotten away with it. The movies were about Wolverine, Magneto & Xavier-in that order. Storm was just a supporting character. Now had they treated the character w/the same amount of respect that they gave Hugh, Halle would have never been under consideration. To me, ideally, Nona Gaye would've been perfect. But that's just me.

No one in the Xmen movies really did any Oscar winning performances!! That's my point! All you had to be was decent or good. Even Tyra can pull that off!

Tyra Banks would next on my list. She's done some acting too.

Don't tell me you can't see this!!
:whatever:

Tyra.

Woww.

In the 90s, my choice for Stormy was Vanessa Williams, then later was Vivica Fox.

But I don´t have a problem with Halle as Storm.

How did this turn into a Storm thread in the Iron Man forum? Also try Jada Pinkett while you're at it.

Gee, that makes a lot of sense.
Thanks...I kinda liked it too. You do realise that I was making a sarcastic joke don't you?

kedrell said:
Did I say looks don't matter at all? Hmm? No I did not.
You said....."If I had to choose between talent and looks...I'd take talent." And Kathy Bates is one of the most talented actresses we currently have.

kedrell said:
It's just the lesser of the two. Kathy Bates is white and Storm is black. It would never work, obviously.
I seriously know that combination wouldn't work either....but I was responding to your saying that talent was more important than looks. It was just a lighthearted comment. Others saw the joke. Others know that I would not say that a 60 year old heavyset short white woman should play a tall physically fit young black woman.

kedrell said:
Berry did a fine job IMO and Banks would have been a huge gamble, and an unnecessary one too. It seems like you want someone who's the spittin' image of what they look like in the comics and that's unrealistic. If you can get 80-85% of the way there that's fine.
I think Berry did an OK job too. Could someone else have portrayed Storm better....yes. Could someone else have looked more like the comic character....yes. But those were not my points. My point was....too many posters on here immediately put Berry down and call her a terrible actress (I think she is good...not great, not terrible...but good) and always shout that a "BETTER" actress should have gotten the part....but when I mention a "BETTER" actress....they then shout she doesn't look the part......so, I am saying....compromises are made all the time....you get an actress that looks alot like the part and that can halfway act....instead of finding a perfect looking match that can't act or a great actress that looks nothing like the part.

Ummmm.... I clicked on the Iron Man board, right?

I think we are all alittle confused what this thread/forum is about. Could of sworn people were discussing something else not to long ago. I forget what it was though. :ninja:

That's what your mom likes about me!:word:

Yes, of course. Sorry, I left mother jokes back on the playground but if you feel better by taking shots at my mother go ahead but dont go crying to the mods again if ever I should hurt your feelings by calling you an idiot.:whatever:

Ok, who really cares if he is better for Rhodey than, say, Joseph Culp was for Dr. Doom? That's supposed to make us 'idiots' feel better?

So tell me who would you rather have? Either way it seems to me that any black actor they pick, you'r still going to end up crying like a bitc...uh, baby. whoa, close one...almost slipped there.

Again, you make a sweeping statement without any examples to back it up. I asked a simple question: what makes him "more than qualified"? As I knew would be the case, you sidestepped answering the question, taking the low road and calling me an idiot again, a tactic reserved for those lacking the intellect to clearly express their point, and again gave a broad, generalized reason for your 'opinion'. You say "his performance and his creds" without actually citing any, sounding as if you really have no clue what you're talking about. "His look is suitable" says to me you are happy with the choice because "he is a black man." What OTHER trait does he have that makes him "more than qualified" for the role of Jim Rhodes? Come on, boy, I'm trying to help you form a rational argument.

Its pretty clear you lack the cerebral capacity to engage in basic foward thinking. I answered your question, its not my problem if your not happy with my anwer. I told you to look at his creds, its not a hard thing to do. Here, let me break it down for you.

Step1. in the address box type in, www.imdb.com
Step2. In the search box try typing, Terrence Howard
Step3. If your eyes are good enough, you should be able to see a whole list of movies he's done. Wether or not they were good means nothing but he himself put in strong performances.

I insulted you because you damn well deserved it. So here's a life lesson for you dont you ever in your life make the mistake of thinking you know how I feel or presuming my decision is based on your own misinterpretation of what I'm saying because on road, I'm ramppin' and trust me you dont want to open your mouth on road and talk the crap your talking to man'dem let alone man'dem who's on a ramp.
I'm happy with Terrence just because he's black? You thinking that is beyond stupid and proves to me that you are abundantly foolish. Like I said before, you are not going to get an actor that is the spitting image and thats clearly what you want.
Seeing as you've got so much time on your hands, why dont you do something "usefull", go to Marvel, ask them real nicely if they can right up a complete bio-report on James Rhodes and with the "precious" info you can start your search on finding the perfect blackman that can "justify" playing the part. Go ahead, be sure to get the blood type and the complete set of medical and dental records too.:whatever: Rational argument? Pfft, my back foot:o

I know I'm wasting my time with that though, because your response will once again be regurgitated, generalized crap. The truth is, he does NOT have any of the characteristics of Jim Rhodes other than being a black man.

So what else do you want? Him being black goes without saying and Howard is a great actor and has been so for many years. Most of the people here didn't even know who he was until about a year ago. I've been watching his movies since he played 1 of the jackson brothers so I know his acting capabilities, which by the way is good enough to take on the role of Rhodey. In case this mighht have slipped your mind but he is an ACTOR and like I said before, spitting images mean nothing. So that tired, lame "oh, its because he's only black" excuse can be put back where you pulled it out from, your jacksy.

Characters like JJ Jameson who have simmons bearing a striking resemblance is different because his look is familiar and more importantly distinct....and to be honest I dont know why you and others are whining anyway because the same thing is done in the comics not just with black characters but other characters including the main characters themselves. Peter Parker has never ever had the exact same look throughout the entire run of spider-man, no comic book character has.

The entire cast for the F4 movie looked nothing like their comicbook counterpart.
Eric Bana as Bruce? Connelly as Betty? They bare no resemblance, hell, Kirsten Dunst as MJ is a complete casting joke. Dont get me started on Garner as Elektra and yes, what about RDJ as Stark himself? God knows the amount of people here crying about how he doesn't look the part, so I dont know what your beef is but whatever.....see what I'm saying? Probably not but thats not my problem. I dont give a rat's jacksy how you feel or what you think but I'll tell you this, Howard has been cast, there's nothing you can do about it and his casting isn't a problem because as an ACTOR, a good one at that, he is able to take on the role and thats why he has the job.

As I also stated, and to which you failed to respond, your argument could also be perfect reason to put Ian McKellan in the role of James Bond: talent, performance, and creds. A suave, handsome English actor. If that were the case, though, you'd turn against your own argument like Benedict Arnold and cry foul like the puss that you truly are.

Wrong. Just look at what you said, I didnt address this because I hate having to respond to stupid comments like this, "I'll be happy with McKellan as Bond" ????? LMAO get the hell away from me with that shi....uh...rubbish. Do you know how to read? If you do you'd be aware that I'm not ruling out that looking a certain way is crucial but what I did say is that, spitting images/resemblances is NOT crucial. Your wasting your own time.

As for you schooling anyone, I'd first suggest learning to spell 'whether' and 'habit', and what is THIS - His look is suitable for Rhodey but that was something I thought I didn't have to mention because, I thought I didn't have to point out the bleeding obvious but, I guess some idiots are slow like that - a run on-and-on sentence? Truth is you couldn't find your ass with both hands and a roadmap, much less make an educated judgement on an actor's qualifications. And as for the name-calling, I can see where it could become all too comfortable saying things like that via a chatboard but be careful: one day you may slip and actually say that to somebody's face and then you'll see what an 'asspr1ck' really is! :wow: "Boned. James Boned.

Blah blah blah, rant rant rant, I'm realy not bothered but you appear to be and its actually entertaining. In addition to go out of your way and correct my informal grammatical errors on an internet message board, feel free to report my post to a mod again if it makes you feel better, spider-snitch.

2 points for American dream. When Martin and New York Undercover ran my thursdays. I remeber him from the bonnie & clyde episode. AND I'VE HAD NO PROBLEM w/ Terrance ever until I heard about him bein Rhodey...I'M RHODEY, Iron Man is my Spider-man, Batman. This threads issue brings all types of bad hollywood practice and black folks I think is at the core...but now I'm willing to not batch about it til later.

I am only a fan of the FF in general fan terms so only about 100% more qualified than the average viewer and I thought that casting was adequate-I will give it this. Aside from the Doom costume, this was the greatest Live Action Origin telling in ANY comic film. birth of a thread.

Oh yea, nearly naked ALBA!!

First of all, tell me which mod said I reported you and we'll get this straightened out with a quickness. Let's get one thing straight: I never reported anyone on this board to a mod. If I have a problem with someone, I take it straight to them. If you got reported, maybe you should go back and see if you might have offended anyone else on here who is probably much more thin-skinned than I am. I'm certain you like to throw the long-distance insults around liberally. Maybe you should just make a new thread - "To whoever reported me to the mods - I got some really tough names to call you so don't be reportin' mandem cause he's rampin'!"

And for the 3rd and last time, you have failed to give support to your claim that Howard is "more than qualified" to play Rhodey. I asked for traits that made him right for the role. You come back with a looooongg post that mostly tries to bolster your machismo and as an aside tries to support your position with comments like "well, all the other superhero actors weren't exactly right for their parts" bull****. Great argument.

For someone who's 'not really bothered', you seemed to have taken an awfully long time to compose an awfully long post.

Tough talk on a comic book message board doesn't mean a thing to me. Your insipid ghetto trash-blab tells me I know EXACTLY how you feel, so I don't have to presume anything. I know all about you. I haven't called you names - 'idiot', 'prick' whatever - cause I don't need to. I know exactly why you resort to this sort of thing. Names don't mean a thing, "mandem". But you seem to like that sort of thing so stay up all night and post another incredibly long diatribe about how I'm a (insert verbal insult here), it doesn't matter to me. I'm done with you.
