Comics The '07 X-Event: Endangered Species, Messiah Complex, & Disassembled

Unless Ororo would be returning as a permanent member of the X-men again :cwink:

The art looks great. I'm with IamLegend on the "temporary crossover" team thing. Although if it's true, I'd love to see Ororo/Peter on on team again :woot:  Is this the cover or...???
yeah I really dont see Storm and Cyclops being on the same team. They both are leaders and cant see the writers having both of them on one team

NL: It is. There will be a significant and final shift in the status quo and even with how people look at mutants. Also, coming out of the event, readers will have a more clear idea of what the X-Men are and what every book means. Gone will be the days where readers will be confused what book is which and what the difference is.

I'm wondering will the books interact more and have a certain continuity now that Mutants are an endangered species???
Each book has had a distinct purpose ever since deciMation and defiently after the revamp last year. This quote doesnt really make much sense taking that into consideration. I dont know anyone who's confused about what book is and what teh differences are between them unless they havent read comics in years

I can't see them putting Storm, Cyke, and Logan on the same team. And I'd hate it if they did, because I know who'd get short-changed on screen-time (okay, panel-time is the correct term, I suppose). I don't expect this group to be anything other than yet another temporary team slapped together to handle the mutants' latest crises.

I never heard a reasonable explanation on how Wolverine could pull off being on multiple teams. Assuming Storm does make a comeback to the X-Men, has anyone heard if there will be any change in the FF? I don't really keep up with them, so for all I know she could have already left, but I doubt it.

Storm and BP are only temporary team members while Sue and Reed take a break to work on their marriage. They were brought on strictly as temps and that lineup was going to end eventually, it was just a matter of when. With FF 550 coming up, Im thinking thats when Sue and Reed return

Well, I'm officially hyped. Here's hoping the x-over is worth the hype. The Uncanny cover caught my eye also...gotta wonder if Marvel, in their attempt to make Uncanny the "flagship," is trying to put all the heavy hitting iconic X-Men in that book...kind of like a JLA type of deal. And with each passing glimpse of the future for the X-Men, I'm beginning to step on the side of those who predict Kitty is going to meet her end in Astonishing. Seems like she hasn't been included in any previews for the upcoming event, where I've seen all the rest of the Astonishing team show up...either her or Armor is gonna bite the dust, seems like.

WIZARD: What about Gambit?

LOWE: Oh yeah, he definitely plays quite a sizable role, but it’s a very mysterious role as well.

Bah. More mindless hyping (everyone and their mother has been promised a "Sizeable role") and "OMG! MYSTERIOUS!!!" billing for Gambit I see. Is it so hard for them to simply take a serious effort at writing him as an actual character?

I don't know... I'd like to hope that when they say "mysterious" it means he'll be back to his taking care of his own interests, regardless of what sides he appears to be while doing so.

I mean, at least they don't seem to be immediately writing him into the "waiting for the right moment to betray the baddies" cliche.

Apparently, the leader of the Marauders is going to be
Mystique.
I wonder how that will change things for the Cajun considering the circumstances under which they last met and how Gambit's
tried to kill her in the past because of her betrayals.

What? You're kidding, right?

Well... I suppose it'll make for some interesting conversations, no?

I want to see some interaction between Colossus and Mystique, considering that he had a relationship with her a while back. That's hardly ever addressed.

Eh, unlikely. Every character in the Marvel U has a whole gallery of old flames that don't get mentioned.

Well, that's hard to avoid, seeing as how every Marvel female is an old flame for Wolvie, no? :whatever:

ROTFLMAO

Not true, though. I still laugh at how Mary Jane put him down. I guess Logan assumed all married redheads found him irresistable. :woot:

After being assured that he could reveal details by the moderator, David informed the crowd that the massive X-Men crossover is going to be named The Messiah Complex. It deals with mutants currently being an endangered species with no new mutants being born, and what then happens when Cerebra detects the first newborn mutant. Unfortunately, groups other than the X-Men or X-Factor (like the Purifiers and the Marauders, for example) also know about the new mutant arrival. The baby disappears, leading all groups concerned on a hunt to find it and use it to either unlock the secret on how to save the mutant race or seal their extinction. This will cut across all mutant books and have major significance for the mutant universe.

The fans were informed that this is an “old school” crossover, where it will be broken into chapters that run through all the mutant titles. The crossover will be 12 parts told in 4 books over the course of three months. The status quo will change. X-Factor will gain a member and lose a member. David said he wasn’t sure what will happened elsewhere, but that’s some of what will happen in his X-Factor series. For more on the crossover, check out Newsarama’s interview with Nick Lowe here

Pay attention to a certain sentence in the first paragraph that we didn't really know about before...

Yeah, the whole new mutant baby is born line

so this is a direct copy of Children of Men

..and who are the Purifiers?

Sadly, you must not read New X-Men :(

Purifiers are a Religous cult formed by William Stryker (including assassins and terrorists). Stryker's dead now, but the Purifiers have lived on. They live to kill mutants and were responsible for all the deaths in New X-Men's "Childhood's End" run.

Sadly? Boy's damn lucky he doesn't read that dreck. :o

The best X-Book out there in my opinion. Astonishing is pretty good, but it's not very original and the timing of its release is just rediculous. All it's got is a good creative team... overall I find it less enjoyable. Uncanny X-Men and X-Men feel out of the loop too (due to Uncanny having spent so long in space and X-Men being primarilly villains). X-Factor is the only one that can give it a run for its money. Good stuff, but New X-Men actually makes me care about what happens with the characters. I find the stories the most interesting and the characters the most relatable.
