The 26th James Bond Film

Interesting quote about the villain. Let’s think of five actors we would love to play villains and work back from there.

  1. Rachel weisz
  2. Kate Winslet
  3. Gary Oldman
  4. John Slattery
  5. Lenny Henry

I can see PhoeBe Waller Bridge coming back as a writer.

oh yes she would be wonderful!

Yeah I really hope they just scoop someone off the west end. No Cavills or Hollands. Just we know what we’re getting with names like that.

it’s interesting they’re casting for a villain first. Maybe if they’re doing an origin they’re going to start with M’s predecessor and then build the franchise around the new Bond and the new M growing together. That’s kind of a fun idea

They had the script for Casino Royale in place before they cast Daniel Craig, so it’s not so much of a surprise. You’ve got to figure out the state of the world and then how Bond fits into it. With Casino Royale they had the Fleming novel that they then had to update to be reflective of Post-9/11 Terrorism as opposed to the Soviet Union.

I think the most obvious choice now would be eccentric billionaire tech moguls like Musk or Bezos. Which Fleming sort of predicted via Hugo Drax and his own little rocket.

They can bet they won’t touch Russia or China as the baddies though. That’s too hot topic and political for how they’ve run things.

While I agree about China, I'm not sure Russia is off the table. They almost let Boyle do Russian baddies for Bond 25. And Russia is so toxic now on the international stage now, I don't think there would be much controversy to using them as bad guys. There is no Russian box office to lose with the embargoes and sanctions for the foreseeable future. If you are going to do a Drax-like figure, one must remember that you need some foreign puppetmaster behind him.

If they do bring Waller-Bridge back to write, I would also love to see her in front of the camera as well. She has the perfect sass and wit to joist with Bond as Moneypenny or Loelia Ponsonby.

My main thinking is…they never went with SMERSH or the Soviets during the majority of the Cold War when Russia and China meant nothing to the box office, so I’m not sure they’ll break style with that now.

Is there a plot breakdown?

MI6 :: The Home of James Bond

Robots in some capacity and Whoopie Goldberg.

Walt Disney's Imagineering division was contracted to supply designs for the high-tech robots that featured in the early screenplays. Form was to follow function, according to the treatment, so they would not have necessarily been robots in humanoid form - with the exception of the villainous 'Nan'. Apparently, first drafts of potential robot designs were completed and handed over to Eon.

They’ll definitely be like “those dastardly Russ…I mean “spectre agents”

Tomorrow Never Dies kind of did that with Elliott Carver, but rewatching that one is a little awkward these days with the attacks on the media a “fake news” cries.

Oh yeah, that film was ahead of times in some aspects. Rupert Murdoch only got was worse since ‘97.

They did go with China as the bad guys in a couple of the films (Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice) working through a third party.

Though even then they left it ambiguous, at least in the case of You Only Live Twice where Blofeld’s employers were an unnamed non-Japanese Asian nation.

The films have just never been as political as Fleming or Amis’ stuff, so I’d really be surprised if that changes in the current climate.

They need someone who can commit to a decade.

So that rules out all the favorites such as Tom Hiddleston (who's 41) and if you want to believe he was considered( Idris Elba who's 50)

Dan Stevens is the right age but he most likely doesn't want to be tied down to the role.

I wonder what else will be in their contract? Games, tv shows? Cameos? Who knows

Joe Alwyn could be a good dark horse pick.

Did someone suggest Olivia Coleman as M? You need someone no nonsense and stern.

That guy's a good actor. He's got the right look for Bond.

Maybe Coleman is a little too similar to Dench though.

I do wonder if they go back to a female M or if they continue on with a man in the position.

It’s probably the role they have the most freedom to play with in terms of casting and characterisation.

I like a woman M. Bond needs at least one woman he doesn’t hook up with.

my dark horse pick would be Paul mescal. Hey, he wouldn’t be the first Irish Bond!

I've always wanted to see Cavill in the role, but if they're going for a younger and less well known actor, Alex Roe could be an interesting choice - he's 32, English, 6ft, has a natural intensity which I think would work for Bond.
