The 79th Annual Academy Awards

No. Leo wil not surpass them. THose guys are too good. Do not ****ing argue, either. Leo will definitely get near their level, though.

That is incredibly shortsighted. Imagine if after Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, everyone just said "No one will ever surpass Armstrong, NASA is over. Lets quit trying!" or after BAbe Ruth broke the homerun record, everyone just said "No one will ever surpass him. Quit trying."

Just because they are great, doesn't mean someone else can't be just as good or better.

Oh comeon. What actor doesn't pay his dues and do work just to keep food on the table? Sure, Leo has some bad performances, but so does Nicholson, Hopkins, Pacino, Brando, DeNiro and all the greats.

This is still people caught up on the anti-Leo fad that followed Titanic. The fact is, Leo was a teen idol, but he isn't anymore. Unlike actors Freddie Prinze Jr., Leo has evolved as an actor into this generation's Tom Hanks. Leo will have a great career ahead of him. He has already deserved an Oscar three seperate times (This year, The Aviator, and Gangs of New York). Hell, this year Leo deserved it for two different movies. To deny he is a great actor is ridiculous.
And as much as I hate Titanic...it was a good film.

Don't tell me not to "****ing argue",you may worship them but just like Gonking get the arrogant chip off your shoulder

I'm not arrogant. Yes, lately Al has been playing himself, but that doesn't ake away their accomplishments. They've been in some of the greatest films ever. And in their prime they never played themselves. That's just some pretentious analogy a few idiots came up with to back up their thick headed points. There's more to them than just charm and charisma. They have talent, dedication and have influnenced a tremendous deal of actors, including Leo. For youto degrade them the way you did is laughable. I take it you've never seen most of their earlier work.

It was a good chick flick. It didn't deserve the money it made or half the awards it got, but Leo was still good in it. However, people resent others with success. Thus an anti-Leo mentality formed following it that a lot of people STILL can't let go of.

I let go of it when I saw Departed. However he does have that problem of having that way too perfect nickname; "LeoNERDo DiCRAPio".

You need to watch yourself,i'm done warning you

And yes thanks a lot but ive seen all of Pacino's movies going right back and he is a very charismatic man but he plays shouty Al in every movie he is in and Crazy Jack does crazy Jack ticks in all his roles,Leo disappears in his

I think Leo will one day be seen as just as good as them. I'm not sure if he'll be better, but he'll definitely reach their level. You do have to look at the impact they've had. Pacino and Jack had their status cemented well before they hit 50. Let's say Pacino and Jack never made another movie after Terms Of Endearment and Scarface. They still would get the recognition they would get today, and probably more since Pacino never would have denerated into the joke he is turning into now.

Leo is definitely on the right track and he definitely will get the in due time. The fact he had success as a teen actor give him extra points. The teen idol is the only thing that really set him back, as he struggled to be taken seriously, something neither Jack nor Al had to. But he has made up for it. Time will tell, and in the end the resukt will definitely be a positive. If Leo is as good as he is now in 40 years, he'll be in Greatest Actors Top 10's for sure.

Like the Departed, where he starred opposite Jack Nicholson and Martin Sheen...and outshined them both...you mean like those types of movies:whatever:

Actually I meant these ones:

These Brando's movies: A streetcar Named Desire, Viva Zapata!, Julius Caesar, The Teahouse of the August Moon, Last Tango in Paris and obviously the Godfather.

These Al Pacino's movies: Serpico, Scarface, The Merchant of Venice, Dog Day Afternoon, Carlito's Way, Scent of a Woman, The Insider and of course The Godfather.

These Jack's movies: Chinatown, Five Easy Pieces, One flew...., Easy Rider, Res, The Postman always ring twice, The Shining, Prizzi's Honor, A few Good men, As good as it gets, About Schmidt, Hoffa and The Witches of Eastwick.

If you have seen alll these movies you never can't say Leo is at the same level than them.

PD: He didn't outshined Nicholson lol

Well, yes. It is. I'll admit. I don't think anyone is necessarily untouchable. But I don't know. It's a bit pretentious I know.

Hummm, I am going to have to disagree with the notion that Leo disappears into his roles. Not to me, he doesn't. And certainly not in The Aviator, which would have been a much better movie had Scorsese cast someone with some actual physical presence.

To compare Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino to ****ing Leo DiCaprio is plain ridiculous. Please!

Will Smith was f**king robbed :(

Nah, its not Will's time. Will has yet to earn an Academy Award. Sure, he has been great in Pursuit of Happyness and Ali...but it is never jaw droppingly great. Its like he does enough to get the nomination, but never goes the extra five yards to get the win.

I'm sensing some definite roid rage in the forum today!

Everyone needs to take a few breathes... *inhales* ...BREEEEEATH. *exhales*

Ive seen most of those as well, thanks

And yes he clearly did,Jack tapped into the Napier role real well though

Physical presence? For Howard Hughes?

This is Howard Hughes:

DiCaprio was perfect for the role.

I'll concede to all of that.

I wasn't calling you an idiot in that post when I was referring to "playing themselves". I'm sorry if I came off as disrespectful. That wasn't my intent. If you must now, I'm going to some personal stuff, so I'm a bit more hotheaded than I usually am. Agan, I apologixe for any disrespect. You know I do really like you in other contexts.

But really, only recently have Al and Jack become what you've described. In their early work, they were far more ubdued and sank into their parts. There's a few reasons they've become what you describe them as:

1) The public has become so connected with their personas both onscreen and off that it's impossible for them to sink into the roles the way they used to. It happesn with a lot of well known actors.

2) The more modern directors who want Jack and Al in their movies want them for that reason. They want them to be what tehy are ine very single movie they ever made. The film gets more recognition that way.

3) Laziness. Both Jack and Al possess huge egos. They sometimes feel that they can just phone it in at times, which as a fan I'll admit they do. Jack for whatever reason gets away with it, I guess because the part is written for him that way. Al, on the other hand, does it even when it is unneeded, which hurts his credibilty.

I still disagree about Jack though. I still think Jack is as solid as he was 30 years ago. The Departed was a bit of a retread to his earlier work, but About Schmidt and Anger Management. The part of why Jack is still going is his persona, while one-dimension, is adaptable to most genres. Al can;'t get out of the over the top melodramaatic mode, which is what is hurting him.

LOL, wow, yeah, one picture. Too bad the picture doesn't show the nearly HALF FOOT height difference, or the way that Hughes actually looks like a man and not a grown up boy like DiCaprio, or the deep rugged voice compared to DiCaprio's prepubescent boy voice.

Let's see...looked nothing like him, acted nothing like him, sounded nothing like him....YEAH, WOW. PERFECT!! :whatever:

As usual, you lack the knowledge of what you pretend to know about, Matt.

What is that supposed to mean?

Yes, I've seen of them, and I do think Leo is nearing their level. I never said he was there. But I think he'll get there.
