The 79th Annual Academy Awards

Are you kidding, he has grown. He always showed potential in his early work (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, This Boy's Life), and now it has been fulfilled. The man has now become the actor of choice for quite possibly the world's most respected living director, and he has held own against legends like Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Tom Hanks and Martin Sheen.

You're wrong.

I think he is not that good and please, DON'T COMPARE HIM WITH BRANDO, NICHOLSON AND DE NIRO...at least not in the next 30 years.

Sorry, but for his generation, he is them. And I do think one day, he will be seen on their level. Lok at his consistency over the last few years. No other actor of this gneeration can claim his track record. You're fighting a losing battle if you think he is not that deserving. TH mans truggled for years to be seen as more than just a pretty face and it's paid off. To deny himthe recognition he deserves is just pathetic.

He is in the list of Brando's, De Niro's, etc. for this generation. He is one of the best actors out there right now. Hasn't achieved elite all-time status yet, but he is one of this generations best actors.

EDIT: Look's like someone beat me to it...great minds think a like!

I truly do think that if Leo keeps going the rate he's going for the remainder of his career, he wil achieve all time status 50 years from now. As I've already said, track record is more consistent than anyone else in Hollywood right now. He's held his own against some of the best actors. I'm glad tht there's till some amazing talent left in my generation.

I agree with you. Leo definately can reach that status. He has the talent. I definately can see him mentioned amongst these names sometime in the future.

Pathetic is compare him with them. They are the greatest actors of the HISTORY, not just a generation. And this specific generation of actors is quite bad.

Again, I'm not saying he is a bad actor, he is good, but not at the level of other generations of actors. Not at the level of Jack in his time, not at the level of Al Pacino in his time, and definitely not at the level of Brando in his time, which is btw, unreachable.

Yeah, I can see him and a few others. Bale, Damon, and maybe Gyllenhaal. But Leo is easily the most likely of the three.

Well, just about everyone on here disagrees with you. Leo is approaching the greatness of those guys in their primes. He's turned in excellent work for two of the best directors of all time (Spielberg and Scorsese), he's got three Oscar nominations under his belt (including one when he wasn't even 20 year old), and he's the most acclaimed actor workng today. Directors love him, his co-stars love him, the crtics love him and the general public loves him. To compare thim those guys is in no way pathetic. This argument is over.

Leo is already better than some of the ones that ppl are viewing through rose coloured glasses

man, you should've seen Marty's face when Departed won best picture. he was just chilling backstage with Spielberg, finally holding his Oscar, and Spielberg said something to him and you could see him say something like "I won?" or "it won?", all surprised.

priceless. :D

I thought it was a great moment when the camera angled on Scorsese holding his Oscar while watching Graham King making the acceptance speech. Marty was smiling like there was no tomorrow. :yay:

YEAH!!! THE DEPARTED GOT IT!!!

BTW, I am so happy that Scorsese and Arndt (screenwriter of Little miss Sunshine) won!!!

Outside of the crappy intro vid and all the montages... Ellen was an awesome host I must say, that bit with the myspace and having spielburg take a picture of her and clint was aweosme. Or when she handed Marty a screen-play. She was really a great host and I like it because she didn't make fun of the academy, it was just good ol'clean fun...

Are you kidding? Most of her jokes were something you would see in a Carrot Top routine (I.E. carrying the Oscar in the chest pouch). Sure, she got some laughs, but they were easy laughs. It is like Jay Leno, he can be funny, but it is always the stupid, easy joke...never the one with thought to it like Letterman. Jerry Seinfeld's 2 minute rant was better than anything Ellen had.

*Chris Connelly's painful backstage interviews before commercial breaks: NOBODY CARES!!

I never thought someone with less talent than Ryan Seacrest would make network TV....Connelly proved me wrong :csad:

Between him and Ellen, this was probably the worst Oscar hosting team in a while. I think with the way Conan nailed the Emmys this year it is time to give him his shot.

ok, watch some movies, and then we talk

Yeah, I've seen "some" moives. I've seen One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. I've seen Dog Day Afternoon. I've seen The Godfather. I've seen all these actors in their prime and there's no doubt that they are ****ing awesome. Heck, Nicholson and Pacino are my favorite actors. And yes, I do think Leo's current work is near if not at there level. Come on, you can't tell me The Departed was virtually flawless and on level with those films.

meh, 90% of her jokes fell flat to me, and she just went on and on and on and on... she dragged most of her jokes into the ground.

Exactly, a lot of the problem was her delivery. If she just ended the script joke with giving it to Marty it would've been funny. Instead she tries to rant and keep it going. It works for some comedians (Vince Vaughn for example). It doesn't work for Ellen. It just comes off as desperate for her, like she is trying to milk it for all its worth.

Plus her monologue sucked. It was going decent until she brought out the choir and did the stupid dance thing she does on her show. It was just cheap.

Actually you can take that arrogant chip off your shoulder or you won't be talking at all,K ?

I'd say Pacino and Nicholson
C'mon Hunter. I could literally do a laundry list of movies for each actor.

I could to,they are very intense and charismatic, great at playing themselves over and over,in particular Pacino

No. Leo wil not surpass them. THose guys are too good. Do not ****ing argue, either. Leo will definitely get near their level, though.

Don't tell me not to "****ing argue",you may worship them but just like Gonking get the arrogant chip off your shoulder

I think some of you are exaggerating, Leo has became a really good actor but NOT THAT MUCH.
He still has to do a lot of great performances to make me forget of Titanic and The Beach. He was quite bad there.

Oh comeon. What actor doesn't pay his dues and do work just to keep food on the table? Sure, Leo has some bad performances, but so does Nicholson, Hopkins, Pacino, Brando, DeNiro and all the greats.

This is still people caught up on the anti-Leo fad that followed Titanic. The fact is, Leo was a teen idol, but he isn't anymore. Unlike actors Freddie Prinze Jr., Leo has evolved as an actor into this generation's Tom Hanks. Leo will have a great career ahead of him. He has already deserved an Oscar three seperate times (This year, The Aviator, and Gangs of New York). Hell, this year Leo deserved it for two different movies. To deny he is a great actor is ridiculous.
