Demi Moore and Adrien Brody got the Oscars sewn up.

And after everything she had to deal with in her career when things happened that she didn't choose to happen, I'm very happy for Pamela Anderson.

I really can't wait to see that movie.
I see what you did there. :o

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has revealed its nominees for the upcoming 2025 awards, and it’s a high-stakes Oscar season, proven by the notable snubs and surprises. The five filmmakers contending for the prestigious DGA Award for Directorial Achievement in Feature Film are the following:

  1. Jacques Audiard for “Emilia Pérez”
  2. Sean Baker for “Anora”
  3. Edward Berger for “Conclave”
  4. Brady Corbet for “The Brutalist”
  5. James Mangold for “A Complete Unknown”

I really thought there'd be more hope for Dune: Part Two this year after moving from 2023 but at this point it looks like it'll just get a consolation Best Picture nom and maybe some technical awards to boot.

Seems to me they nominated the wrong Frenchman…

I just realized who Jacques Audiard is, and I’m in shock that Emilia Perez was made by the same guy who made A Prophet and Rust and Bone.

And I feel like he's just riding off from his previous works and the Netflix push.

The Critics Choice Awards, which were set to take place in Santa Monica on Sunday and air live on E!, have been postponed amid the wildfires currently raging across Los Angeles. The show has set a new date of Jan. 26.

It's still number one in my heart though. :csad:

I haven't seen Chalamet in A Complete Unknown yet but I have a hard time believing he'll beat Brody so I can't see that happening this year.

All the directors roundtable have been great. Y’all should check ‘em out. Sir Ridley holding court like an OG. Bummer for Villeneuve. WB hasn’t done enough to push them noms forward, it kinda feels like a film from two years ago.

I re-upped my Netflix subscription last night so naturally I watched Emilia Perez. I can see why so many people like it so much. On paper, the story is interesting and Karla Sofia Gascon and Zoe Saldana are undeniably great in it. But the songs are ****ing terrible other than maybe Zoe's big number in the middle of the movie. Not that this needed to be a musical in the first place but there'd be a stronger case for it if the songs were actually, y'know...GOOD. And Selena Gomez was miscast too.

Even though it's still early to tell since nominations aren't even out yet, I'll be happy for Zoe Saldana if she wins for this (though I think Felicity Jones should win for The Brutalist) but other than that I can see this racking up a bunch of nominations but maybe just winning Best Foreign Film.

I'm stunned that this won Best Musical/Comedy at the Globes over Challengers, A Real Pain, Wicked, The Substance and Anora. Not that it stands a chance at Best Picture but still...

Tell me the truth and don't lie.

Do you have "FROM PENIS TO VAGINNAAAAAAAAA" playing in your mental jukebox or nah? LOL.

Curiosity gets the best of me sometimes. :o
So it fails as a musical because the singing and songs suck... So why did it deserve its noms. I get people say Zoe is the only good thing in it.

On paper without the songs it's actually not a bad idea for a movie but even then the third act is sloppy.

When it gets to the 3rd act:

Sidebar, but have you seen The Last Showgirl yet?

My damn theater isn't showing it and I don't feel like going to your borough to see it because it's dumb far :csad:

To its credit, though, I'll give it this: I was never bored while watching it. Time flies when you're staring at the screen going WTF for 2 hours. :o

Now you're making me want to watch it.

I was planning on seeing it last weekend but since the snowstorm hit Dallas, the theater I was trying to see it at closed for the day so I couldn't see it. I only saw Den of Thieves 2 instead.
