How does One Battle After Another qualify for these awards? That thing cost almost $200M.

Per Variety, this is the third year since the Gotham Film Awards removed the limit on budget caps for awards consideration, which obviously worked in One Battle‘s favor. Before, the budget cap was a modest $35 million, which Anderson’s film exceeded by nearly $100 million. The rule change didn’t do much to benefit the $90 million blockbuster Sinners, which was largely shut out of the nominee list beyond Outstanding Supporting Performance nominee Wunmi Mosaku. However, Ryan Coogler’s vampire flick was announced among the “2025 Tributes,” with the cast recognized for the Ensemble Tribute.

So yeah I'm calling it now, PTA total sweep at the Oscars in a few months.

And while he more than earned his first Oscar, Ryan Coogler did it better this year.

This is not PTA's best film. But it's the best film of the year I've seen so far. Sorry, Baby would be my #2.

All joking aside, I was surprised by how poorly the action was shot in Sinners considering Coogler's career. Where as PTA showed up like he's Chad.

Both Sinners and OBAA are neck and neck for me with Sinners getting the slight edge. Really what it boiled down to was my preference for Sinners' ending.

Sean Penn was good in One Battle After Another but that guy does not need a third Oscar. :o

He would tie with Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day-Lewis if that happens.
To which I'm like, "Eh." Penn's a good actor but even in this I think it's a nomination-worthy performance but I wouldn't say that he should win. Hell, I'm rooting for Stellan Skarsgard and I haven't even seen Sentimental Value.

Jesus, Penn got nominated for I Am Sam…?

I guess it was pre-Tropic Thunder taking the piss out of that kind of performance, but still…

This ballot list is mental. I haven't watched everything from it yet. Need to get cracking.
