BvS The Alfred Pennyworth Casting Thread

I couldn't get round it before. Because I couldn't picture Rickman, even as Alfred, take on an emotionally disturbed child.

But as I've viewed the Harry Potter in the recent weeks, it's really changed my mind about him. Sure he's playing Snape and he don't really like kids lol
But even so, I could fatherly tendencies he has.

And his dry/drone voice and personality, with the flickers of humour within that, makes me think his Alfred could work really well with Ben's Batman, in the way he's been described.

I could definitely get behind a Rickman casting, but have there even been any rumors about that?

Alan Rickman would make a fantastic Alfred.

None of us can be sure if Alfred's in it.

But he has to be, surely?

The way this Batman is described, maybe Alfred is dead and he's an even bigger loner than before.

I'm sure Alfred will be there though.

There is really not a single bad choice to play Alfred. So many of the suggestions would be awesome me thinks.

Dude I only was able to imagine Rickman as Alfred after watching the last couple Harry Potter movies, he really sold me as that dry, sarcastic, but ultimately caring (almost) parental figure.

If he toned down the *****iness a bit from his Snape role, he could make an EXCELLENET Alfred.

I mean look at the dude... this is him in 2013. IMO he could be an even more comics accurate Alfred than Michael Caine was. Visually and in his performance.

Rickman could certainly portray a tired and weary Alfred, who still retains his sarcastic streak.

An Alfred like Caine, cheery and full of quips, I don't think he'd work with Affleck.

No. If the story is framed around Batman going to Metropolis, none of Batman's supporting characters are necessary. Even if the film has Superman going to Gotham, son long as the story is written correctly, Batman will function as antagonist and/or ally of Superman within this story, NOT as a central spoke with his own support characters. Alfred could be injected in such a story, especially as a cameo (see: DCAU's "World's Finest" multi-part episode), but he's not necessary for story reasons in a Batman/Superman story.

The way this Batman is described, maybe Alfred is dead and he's an even bigger loner than before.
That would be awful. Alfred works well to humanize Bruce and killing him off before the solo series even kicks off would be a really bad idea.

I think the respective ages of Affleck and Rickman may stop the latter from getting the role. An older Wayne would surely indicate an older Alfred?

I'm all for Timothy Dalton, but here is another option.

They could do away with the "english butler" aspect all together and go with the Batman: Earth One, ex-special forces looking Alfred. With that said, here is an obvious choice that could be pretty badass (at least I could see him throwing a punch if he needed to - Roadhouse style)...

LOOOOOVE this idea. A new take on Alfred is definitely needed.

Christopher Plummer would've been appropriate in that case.

But by the time a solo franchise comes out, it's likely he would have passed.

An actor who is bordering like Rickman, that would be the best way to go.

Dance, Dalton, Rickman etc. – so many choices for Alfred I'd be excited for.

And it's always hard to choose one clear favorite when not knowing how the character is written.

I suppose you're right. They could always age Rickman a few years using Hollywood magic.

Let's shake things a bit, how about a beautiful young asian woman for Alfred?

Sounds perfect to me.

Alfreda, Bruce Wayne's Big Sister (from the big bros/big sis' program) forced to take on the role as a mentor for young Bruce. :lmao:

Don't think he's been suggested yet, but here's one that comes to mind: Bill Nighy.

Nighy is actually my distant #3 choice. he's definitely got the charm and wit to pull off Alfred.

my top 2 still are Dalton & Rickman though

Yea I should have done a more thorough search - Nighy has been suggested by multiple people (but not recently).

michael caine. just like i said in the jjj thread, I can't imagine and don't want to see anyone else be alfred.

I'd rather have an Alfred that is more similar in appearance to comics/animated Alfred. Plus Michael Caine just seemed to be playing himself
