The All Encompassing AQUAMAN Movie Thread - Part 6

About domestic "reviews", after the bashing DCEU movies had since MoS (WW being the sole exception), I am not surprised that WB is following a cautious approach, while the movie may well get a high RT score, but most DCEU fans will be skeptical.

If you ask me, even if the movie is more on the lines of an MCU movie, I don't see reviewers being as generous as they are for the MCU movies.

Critics/reviewers don't have a vendetta against WB/DC. So far they have not liked what they have seen from the previous DCEU efforts but that doesn't mean they are biased against it.

But be prepared, even if future DC movies get good reviews, many reviewer would take a shot (or several) at bashing of previous DCU movies sans WW. Including ZS / Ayer and 'tone' (Even though SS was deemed 'fun and humorous'). Maybe for a while.

Be strong brothers and sisters, we get what we want if we like the movie, everything else is bonuses / noises. :D

Not saying that critics have a vendetta or there's a conspiracy but I think that DCEU movies are reviewed more "critically".

Suicide Squad did it as well. That movie almost out grossed BvS with awful reviews. If reviews mattered as much reviewers think they do a lot of these films would never make money.

That said WB needs positive press for obvious reasons.

Mera's hair color changes cover by cover. :D
I dig this color.

Cool with me if we see a bunch of looks/outfits for Mera. ;)

I wonder if WB might do what Sony did with Jumanji and have Prime exclusive weekend sneaks on say the 8th and 9th December to build buzz.

The explanation for Aquaman's Chinese release date

Aquaman | Dec 21 2018 (US), Dec 7 (China), Week of Dec 14 (most of the world) | James Wan | Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Nicole Kidman.

Only reason that Aquaman could get a Dec date is China Box Office isn't looking good in 2018. Film Bureau was planning to let Alita come to Dec. But Fox abandoned it and chose Chinese New Year, which is probably a daydream for opening at that period. So Aquaman got this chance. The first Hollywood blockbuster which could debut in Dec for the first time. Bumblebee is still looking for a date of Jan. Spider-Man animated film & Mortal Engines probably won't come until next year. Disney don't think Marry Poppins would make big money so it doesn't have a theatrical plan in China. But there might be a new Hollywood film to open on Dec.14. I personally think Grinch may come to here.

Aquaman also has a good buzz in Chinese social media especially when the 5 mins trailer was released. Everybody is looking forward to a non-Zack DC Film Universe.

Well it would seem Aquaman had some good fortune and WB wisely jumped on it. While it might be a bit annoying for the rest of us by the time it opens in the States it could already have ridiculous word of mouth (if it is good you know social media will blow up which will be awesome) and build up a lot of good will. Sure it will be hard for many to avoid spoilers but that is an argument for another time.

I would love for it to move up for obvious reasons...but I cant deny that it could be in a very stable position as is even going up against the competition it is going up against. If it is as good as we all think it might be then the buzz from China for two weeks, not to mention the rest of the world for a week prior to it opening here could boost it higher than a lot of people are expecting. If the reviews are decent it could explode.

When do you suppose they will have screenings for the Critics in US ?
