The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

So they replaced Eric Stoltz at a point in production where it was still possible to do so, reshoot his scenes and film the rest with Michael J. Fox. This is not a comparable situation to what is happening with The Flash.

Who cares? You stated an inaccurate fact about Back to the Future and I corrected you. Deal with it.

I dont want them replaced in Flashpoint, because principal photography is finished, they have already been paid, and the film has been in development too long as it is. But they need to be replaced for all future Flash projects. Theyre seriously unwell.

Edit: For pronouns.

everyone keeps asking why WB hasnt rebooted this universe and is ignoring the fact that several components of the DCEU ARE working. Aquaman worked, Wonder Woman worked, Shazam worked. Gal and Jason in particular have become rockstars in their roles, you dont throw away things that hit well with mass audiences. And who knows, Black Adam may be a hit too, Same with Shazam 2 etc. if the movies are landing well with audiences why would they start over?

WB doesnt need to do a reboot they just simply need to keep doing what theyre doing and keep going in a new direction with new talented filmmakers putting their spin on these characters. Keep making solo movies that work and then maybe down the line they can figure out how to connect everything again.

You can keep WW and Aquaman, I just mean it's convoluted to bring back a Batman from an unpopular film and use a Flash film to get rid of him when you didn't even need to include him in the first place.

Might be afraid of offending the DCEU loyalists. They need their money too.

A big issue that I have is that WB was asleep at the wheel and allowed Marvel to jump them with a big multiverse crossover movie first. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck being in the same movie isn't quite so fresh of an idea after bringing back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Even without the Miller controversy, I would have been surprised if it did as well as No Way Home.

How much money are they really contributing to this though? Enough to do all of this? It's just so strange. Maybe it was because Miller wanted Keaton as the new Batman in this universe and they needed to justify it by using Affleck to be replaced.

If Ezra isn’t arrested and kept away from this kid, it will end up in a murder/suicide. No joking around.

My fear is that when the movie bombs Ezra will commit suicide due the massive disaster of the movie.

There are huge expectations for this movie and they really seems to enjoy playing the character but they're sabotaging themselves

It might even happen after they've been replaced and really depressed that they lost the role.

I'd try to pull an 'Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' and replace Ezra half way or towards the end. Have them go through a time travel portal and comeback a different actor( but not Gustin). Heath had mostly shot most of the heavy cgi's scenes as well. This way you save some money and also replace the problem without reshooting the whole thing. Eh.

I'd imagine all recasting/dumping/straight to hbo max scenarios are being talked about at WB. To be a fly on that wall every morning.

I can’t imagine asking Keaton to come back unless you’re willing to put even more money into this movie. It’s basically unmarketable at this point with Ezra as the lead.

Aside from shuffling release dates and hoping whatever dreadful story surrounding Miller blows over there is really nothing WB can do. They greenlit the movie on the cheap to cover for years of development hell and try to recoup their costs, they’re not going to sink even more money into it.

At this point and if things with Miller escalate or just don’t go away, it would make more sense for WB to shelf the film indefinitely and take the loss but for short term financial reasons it’s about as unlikely to happen as reshooting the thing with a new actor. However any form of release, theater or streaming, if they intend to promote the film in any way, shape or form would be a PR nightmare for anyone involved and will have financial consequences of its own.

Or, and that’s the most realistic option, they will pretend nothing is happening, make no statement, release the film when most convenient, use the supporting cast to promote it, face the eventual backlash and then retire the character for awhile when the movie inevitably tanks and further damages the DC brand.

A full reboot is pointless to me. There's a lot about the DCEU that still works and it's better to just double down on those things. Rebooting everything will just inevitably lead to the same problems because WB isn't set up the way Marvel is and will never be able to exactly replicate what they do.

Dump this movie if you have to, but I still want to see the current Wonder Woman/Aquaman/Shazam/Batgirl/Supergirl/Black Adam/Blue Beetle/Peacemaker/Suicide Squad/etc. continue on.

You are my spirit animal...

This is a good point, that if there’s a sort of stalemate to this and Ezra manages a way out of it they might just carry on as if nothing happened and the show must go on and tickets must be sold.

There's another 12 months to go before release, whatever happens to Ezra it's going to come to a head before that.

I just hope there's a peaceful resolution for all involved. I don't even feel comfortable talking about the film right now as it just doesn't seem important.

My dream would be for them to take what they can use (obviously, no Miller), shoot some additional stuff, and front and centre market it as Keaton's Batman 3. I'm sure they could figure out a way for him to cross into the DCEU to support Batgirl and Supergirl.

I never understood why they didn’t just do Batman 3 with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton. I think it would’ve made more money than the Reeves/Pattinson version that we ended up with.

I'm way past caring about the well being of Ezra, the dude is a certifiable menace. The victims are the ones who deserve concern.

WB needs to grow a sack, if that's even possible at this point, and bite the damn bullet already.

The whole situation is a big mess. Just seems to get worse. Don't know what the answer is at this point.

Yeah, pretty much. I was pretty hyped about this film, Michael Keaton was Batman when I was a kid, and i loved Ben Affleck in the role too. Also a big DCEU adventure? great stuff. Now Ezra has ruined this. I dont want to watch this thing anymore, I hope the people Ezra has been involved with are doing Ok.

Sure. I would have wanted a "Batman 3" instead of anything done by Matt Reeves too. But I dont find it strange that WB suits dont want to do straight up Batman film with a 70 year old Keaton. Not that I would mind, but its not something I see them doing.

Going forward they could just use Wally or Bart as the Flash if the brand isn't too tarnished.

Heard’s situation is in no way comparable to Ezra’s. Think what you want and I ain’t tryna argue about this in here, but she was let down by the system in a lot of ways. She ain’t a perfect victim (few are), but there is no reasonable way Depp should have won that suit.

Ezra on the other hand has several allegations against them with physical evidence continuing to build up against them. Added to all that is the fact that even in the very unlikely event they’re innocent of everything, they are evading authorities with what I think is (keep me honest here) technically a minor based on tribal law in tow.

It just ain’t the same and does a disservice to survivors of abuse to compare Heard
to Ezra. Ezra sits closer to Depp but I don’t think many people will agree sadly.

I'm still baffled why you needed to make a $200 million dollar movie to fix things when you could have just rebooted outright.

They didn't even need to do that. The easiest way to fix the problem of "Our movies have been bad" is to just. . . make better movies. They don't need to create an entire Watsonian justification for why their movies are now good despite having been bad in the past.

The San Diego Tribune - Sons of an Illustrious Father, a 'genre queer' band featuring Ezra Miller, is San Diego-bound for '20-and-under' concert (2018)

The Comic-Con-inspired poster for the “genre queer” indie-rock band Sons of an Illustrious Father’s concert here Sunday, July 22, includes the phrases “Revenge! Youth to the front” and “moving slowly beyond ageism.”

Make that, slowly in reverse, since the show is for audiences “20 and under” and anyone 21 or older must be “accompanied by a minor.”

How stringently this will be enforced is unclear, since Sons of An Illustrious Father’s three members are all in their mid-20s.

I think its less about offending DCEU loyalists ( outside of the hardcore Snyderites you could keep them onboard just by continuing to make movies similar to the good DCEU films in tone and style ), and more. . . how to put it. At least some of the people in charge don't just want to fix the DC movie panoply going forward. They want to *retroactively* "fix" the *prior* DC movies as well, so that people go "Oh, hey, in retrospect those movies weren't actually bad". A new creative direction producing good movies in the future still means that the bad prior movies are a black mark on everyones' resumes. Flashpoint instead promises the hope that people will retroactively forgive those prior movies, because they were necessary for and lead to this awesome crossover time travel movie. "Batman v Superman actually didn't suck because it was necessary for Flashpoint to happen" and all.

Of course, none of this *actually* makes sense. Bad movies that some other future movie puts to use are *still bad movies*. However, since No Way Home has certainly demonstrated that apologists for bad movies will come out trying to claim that any future good usage of elements thereof "proves" that the old bad movies weren't actually bad, I can't say the WB execs are *wrong* for thinking this might restore them some face.

The geek community is a small percentage of the overall movie watching public. When you start splitting them up into their respective franchises, smaller still. So comic book movie fans, then DC fans, then Snyder fans.

Some Snyder fans were trying to do a movement to boycott all DC films output in order to bring back the Snyderverse. The Batman shows that it didn't really take.

Separating art from artist is always a fair request imo, but I'd have trouble not thinking of Ezra's latest **** when watching the movie. Good thing they pushed it back a whole year.
