The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

The digital release has 9 deleted scenes... nothing really special. Mostly just more of the two Ezra's.

Should have digitally removed the beard

I actually pre-ordered this and funny enough am eagerly anticipating being able to watch this again with reset expectations. I dont hate the film by any means but felt let down by it on first watch. All the Keaton/Calle scenes were awesome but I just really chaffed against the goofy tone, comedy and Ezra's...Ezra-isms. Although when Eza was allowed to be serious and dramatic, it worked very well...there just wasnt enough of it IMO. It felt like a different movie than what the trailers were promising. But I wanna watch the movie with a fresh mind and take it for what it is and curious to see if i enjoy it more the second time.

This is how I fell in love with MoS. I don’t see it happening for this flick for me though. But I didn’t have like a visceral reaction to this the way I did MoS. I felt like I got it with The Flash and what they were going for. Just was kinda whatever to me. But good luck to you. I hope you like it more the second time around.

According to this the Blu-ray release for The Flash has been moved up to August 29th
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Andy Muschietti's The Flash (2023), starring Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, and Ron Livingston. The two releases are scheduled to arrive on the market on August 29.

The Flash 4K Blu-ray

As someone who loved the Snyder DCEU movies and a good few others as well, would I enjoy this?

Just didn't get the chance to see it in the cinema. Evidently millions of others were in the same boat!

I think that's honestly going to depend on how attached you are to Snyder's tone. There's plenty related to his universe (All the MOS stuff), but the tone is nothing alike. It's honestly a lot more like the tone of the theatrical Justice League. So if that tone wasn't your cup of tea, you may not dig this. If you're a Flash fan, it's not good enough as a Flash movie, specifically. He is definitely the main character, but outside of borrowing the inciting incident from Flashpoint, it hardly deals with anything specific to his universe. If you dislike Ezra Miller's version of the character, this will only double-down on how much you dislike them.

To me, the strongest reason I can recommend The Flash is if you're a Batman fan, specifically Keaton's version of the character. Keaton delivered, so much so that he's pretty much the universally praised element. Takes a bit for him to show up, but once he does, he becomes one of the main characters. Supergirl doesn't get enough screen time to really tip the scales one way or another. It really is a bit of a mini JL movie, with Flash at the center and Michael Keaton, as Batman often is, being the secret weapon.

The greatest DC movie since the Dark Knight(apparently) is now available to watch in the luxury of your home. :o

Having watched it, I can totally understand the complaints now. The special effects go from awesome to awful to awesome to awful again. I am not as attached to the DCEU (ZS's Justice League might be my only truly favorite one) but the lighthearted, almost goofy tone of The Flash could be a turn-off for some people. I can totally get that.
But I had a lot of fun, I can't ignore that either. It was like I was watching a Saturday morning Super Friends cartoon. Andy Muschietti used the characters like action figures.

It's funny, because while I love these four-color characters in funny costumes, I've never felt the urge that a superhero movie has to be "art." It seems that some people really do feel that way, but as with any film, if I'm at-least entertained, then my feeling on the film will be glass-half-full.

I don't need superhero flicks to be trying to win Oscars, or for each one to try and reinvent the wheel. I firmly believe that the more of the color and camp you suck out of these characters, the more do them a disservice. Now, if you can make a superhero movie artistically satisfying without sacrificing all of the camp--have at it. But personally, I'd still be happy if the costuming was on the level of Reeve's Superman or West's Batman--I'm not ashamed of the camp, just don't be farcical about it.

I'm fully aware of how my tastes aren't representative of the wider audience, but I'm fine with a superhero movie being, at best, on the level of a simple Saturday morning cartoon. I aim for the intersection of representing the fun, wild appeal of grown people in colorful costumes and the melodrama they deal with. While The Flash could be a much, much better movie... it's still got a lot going for it at a minimum. I think expecting each one of these things to be genre-defying, genre-defining or worthy of mainstream critical praise is a bit much.

As is the case with any film, whether we, as individual viewers, enjoys the film , and has a good time with it , is really all that matters , ultimately .

Ultimately, we , as individual fans, can't control what critics, audiences, or other fans feel about any given film , let alone this one.

What's most important for us, as individual viewers, is whether or not the film clicked or not.

If it's the type of film that makes one want to revisit it time and time again, and it's a film that really works for them, then the filmmakers succeeded in that respect.

As an individual viewer, that's the best we can ask for, that a film works for us .

All the other stuff like high RT and Cinema-scores, huge BO, etc, is really out of our control, and ultimately, not all that important when we're talking about what a given film may mean to us as individuals.

The Flash for me is kind of a shame. I honestly think this movie could have been good, but too many things bogged this movie down. Bad SFX, the lead actor and his million problems that I couldn't ignore and actively made me want it to fail, the general disfunction of the DCEU and the reboot announcement, etc. But when I watched this movie, I saw a good movie in here. It just got buried by so much stuff. I hope Flash gets another chance. Preferably with Wally as Flash next time since I like Wally more than Barry

Speaking of the reboot announcement. Do you think it had any major impact on the film’s box office performance? I know you’re speaking for yourself but I’m curious for your thoughts.

I think it had some effect. I don't think it's the silver bullet that killed all these movies that are flopping, but I do think it hurt them

Absolutely pointless cameos

Absolutely pointless cameos

watch the language in the tweet, friend. ;)

I enjoyed the cameos but yeah they ultimately were pointless. What would have been much more ambitious would have been if the cameos actually participated in the 3rd act battle. Like if Barry was able to recruit them or something. Just imagine Reeve and Keaton fighting side by side. THAT would have been awesome.
