Have you seen Game Night?
Yeah, it was a decent comedy, but I'd rather The Flash wasn't a comedy.
Have you seen Game Night?
TG, you know I love you bro, but NO. You can say I'm closed-minded, but there's pretty much three options for a Flash movie in my mind. Gorilla Grodd, Reverse Flash, or The Rogues. I'm tired of DC movies saving the big name villains (that people actually want to see) for sequels that may not even happen.I was thinking about this and what if the Black Hole organization was the villain for the Flash solo movie. Personally I think this would be a great choice. It is an organization with a lot of power and a lot of numbers to fight against the Flash. Plus due to their connections to experimenting with the speed force, we could easily see a retcon. I mean with a device of theirs it could alter the speed force in a way that gives Barry the comic book yellow lightning that is a staple from the comics. It could also lead into more speedsters, such as Iris' nephew that was shown occasionally throughout the movie that ends up getting struck by lightning in a mid/post-credit scene. What do you all think? Personally I think this is a good way to tie in STAR Labs, CCPD, and The Flash all within one amazing story. Especially since the writers are going for a more grounded movie.
With the success of Aquaman, I really hope Wb can release this in 2020. I can't believe we are getting Shazam, Joker and Birds of Prey before this. Shazam, I don't mind. But the other two just seem to be coming out of nowhere, especially I expected solo films for the characters that were in the Justice League movie.
Joker maybe is coming out of nowhere, but at least the Joker is a popular character. BoP is hardly coming from nowhere. It is a vehicle for Harley Quinn effectively, who was the breakout star of Suicide Squad (which I think we forget, made money...despite being awful). So banking off someone who became a popular character in that movie is hardly surprising. Flash on the other hand, they just don't seem to know what to do with.
But Harley isn't a Bird of Prey, so I find it a little out of nowhere. It would have made more sense for them to do either a solo movie, keep her in a starring role for SS2, or do a Joker/Harley movie. Instead of sticking her into a comic book team that she has no real association with.
I feel like DC has said they're doing all of the above at some point, but DC doesn't know what the **** they're doing, so who knows what's actually happening anymore.
It's just baffling now Flash still doesn't have his own movie. Meanwhile challenging properties like WW/Aquaman came out to wide acclaim and success, even a particularly out-there property like GL got a chance.
IMO After Superman, Batman, and Shazam ....The Flash is the most easily marketed, bankable, or relatable character, etc. left in the DC roster. Yet here we are.
They're in such a tricky situation with Joker. The Joaquin movie will probably be great, but it really complicates things. Will we ever see DCEU Joker again? Will he be recast? Will Joaquin's Joker be the DCEU Joker? Who knows...
This newfound blending of the previous DCEU plans and concepts with a more crowd-pleasing family-friendly style is obviously delivering big dividends Warner won't likely ignore, so while certain key plans for establishing entirely new standalone corners of DC cinema will continue, there's a good chance some version of the current DCEU will indeed remain in play for at least perhaps five more years.
It's very possible Warner might decide after that point to let these particular franchises go into some sort of rebooting, while the other new versions of DC characters are merged to form the basis for a new rebooted DCEU, but there's also an increasing chance the studio could decide to merge these popular existing franchises -- specifically Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, and the Harley Quinn character's Birds of Prey spinoff(s), and maybe one or two others depending on how things develop in the coming months -- with the rebooted, semi-rebooted, and entirely new films like The Batman, Suicide Squad 2 (if the plans for a sequel unrelated to the first film remain in play), Supergirl, Batgirl, and others. However, fans reading this shouldn't misinterpret this as implying Henry Cavill's Superman or Ben Affleck's Batman are reentering the DCEU's future, as those ships seem to have sailed and there's no sign of any dramatic reversal of fortunes in those regards. This doesn't mean a reversal can't happen, but it's unlikely at this point.
I agree. There's so much potential with Reverse Flash and how he can **** with Barry's life. I honestly think that to do him justice for a first movie appearance the plot should be kept to just Flash and RF. Let audiences really see what their connection is and truly understand why and how RF casts such a shadow over Barry's life.I think less is more in the case of the first Flash solo film and one villain , i.e. Reverse Flash makes more sense if you're doing Barry's origin and trying to get those in the GA who don't watch the TV show or know very little about the character .
I think leaving Cyborg out is a good idea actually . The first Flash film should really be a Flash film not a Flash and Cyborg team up film imo.
I think the Flash film should be a soft reboot/origin film ala WW and Aquaman beginning with Barry's mother's killing , Henry and Barry's relationship, Barry meeting Iris, Barry becoming Flash , and facing off against Reverse Flash as the sole villain.
I wouldn't save RF for a sequel. I think they should put their strongest foot forward in the first film and a villain as compelling and at important to his origin shouldn't be left off the canvas for a first film imo, especially if you're introducing Flash's origin story to the larger, non fanboy filmgoing GA who aren't as familiar with Flash's story as they are with Superman , Batman and Spiderman.
I think the Rogues could be saved for the sequel once you have an establish Flash. I think less is more in the case of the first Flash solo film and one villain , i.e. Reverse Flash makes more sense if you're doing Barry's origin and trying to get those in the GA who don't watch the TV show or know very little about the character .
I'm not sure about introducing Thawne into the opening film here. Yes, he's central to Barry's story and such, but I'd much rather them leave him until a sequel, or at the very least, introduce him without actually introducing him. Launch the film with Barry's mom being murdered, and show the Reverse Flash (along with a future Barry Allen fighting him) but it'll all be blurred out and what not so we don't actually see either of them.
Then, at the end of the film, maybe post credits, have a blurred yellow suited character emerge from the shadows. It leaves his arc open, whilst introducing to the audience that there is a character here that's going to be expanded on and explored in the future (unlike the Injustice League).
- First Film; Rogues
- Second Film; Grodd and Thawne (Thawne more the Black Manta role here - in the sense that he gets more screen time, but isn't the primary villain)
- Third Film; Thawne (and the Rogues, which later assist Barry; the Rogues typically aren't evil, they've got a code, and them, along with Barry have some form of mutual respect)
Anyone know if Flashpoint is officially off the table and whether or not WB will be doing a regular Flash solo? Any news from the directors on what direction they are taking it?
The thing here is though, they're never going to be able to wrap Thawne up in one movie. If he's introduced in the first film, his plans may be halted, and he may fail in whatever mission he's on, but he's not going to be defeated. Barry is still going to be a novice (somewhat) at this stage, and nowhere near being able to take on someone as calculated and skilled as Thawne, so whatever happens, the ending will have to be left open for his return - which if they do only manage the one film, will be even more annoying than that [going nowhere] Injustice League teaser at the end of JL.I think the issue here is the business side of things, if they can't even get the first one off the ground, they might not be thinking about sequels at this stage. Like, they might be taking that "one game at a time approach".
