The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

Honestly a “dark” take on the flash is the last thing I want.
I do think that word might not Be the right word to describe what they would actually go for though.
As others have said, Morrison’s work has never been dark and I can’t imagine Ezra wanting to make something super dark.

That 'dark' take probably means they wanted something more serious and thats all, the current script is probably a lame straight oversaturated comedy and Ezra didnt connect with it, ppl throw the word darker so easily when a CBM doesnt fit the Marvel standar of throwing a joke every 5 seconds

Well, i'd like to see a Morrison Flash movie. but I'm not crazy about Ezra. I think they should just wait until the show is over or cast an older guy.

by the time they make this thing, Ezra will be an older guy. lol

Why is a flash movie so hard to do? Hes got strong villians and great mythology to play with, this isnt heman for crying out loud where your trrying to crack the code.

Saying the Miller/Morrison script is darker doesn't mean anything unless we know how dark the Daley/Goldstein script is.
For example, Superman the Movie is darker than Batman 1966.

Well, Universal just locked Daley & Goldstein to write & direct a horror movie. It could very well be something that the duo works on after completing commitment on The Flash but WB needs to get their priorities in order.

If they really liked the pitch from Daley & Goldstein then they should just pull the trigger and recast Ezra and start production in November as it has been planned.

At this point I say recast Ezra Miller entirely as Barry Allen and here would be my picks as far as recasting:

Taron Egerton
Ansel Elgort
Logan Lerman
Dylan O'Brien
Josh Hutcherson

At this point I was like give Ezra a chance but now I am under the belief that Barry needs to be re-cast and out of the actors I suggested before: who I would go with as the new Barry Allen I would go with Dylan O'Brien

After Wonder Woman, Aquaman and now Shazam getting rave reviews, the Flash movie should have been a priority. All the delays just make it feel like its in the backburner and the Flash is being left out. They should have released this movie this year, right after Aquaman. If they can keep Ezra Miller in the role and actually release this thing like 2023 or onwards, it would feel like quite overdue which could be an issue.

Looks like some news/update will drop today because I have seen several bloggers post cryptic tweets in the last hour or so

IMO it's still using the same narrative, beat by beat and conclusion with some rumors two weeks prior.

The latest I could find is:
Ezra Miller Reportedly Done With The Flash, WB Will Recast The Role
Says that Morrison-Miller script is good and WB like it but not enough to change the course, and Ezra is out.
BUT well it's from We Got This Covered, and the writer himself said that his sources heard conflicting info anyway.

"Well, according to a source close to We Got This Covered, this has come to pass and Miller may now be done as the Flash. It should be said that our source notes they’ve heard some conflicting information on the topic, but we’re told that the general consensus amongst those close to the project is that the Justice League star won’t be playing the lead in The Flash, after all, and Warner Bros. will now recast the role.

As laid out in previous write-ups of the situation, the reason for this is that WB decided not to go with Miller’s storyline as it’s simply not the route they want to take. We’ve been told that they liked his script, but not enough to change course. This makes sense, too, considering WB has found success with lighter fare like Aquaman and Shazam! of late and Miller’s script was said to be a grand, dark multiversal epic in the vein of Flashpoint."

Unfortunately the general consensus from said sources is Ezra will be recasted. Still, unverified rumor is an unverified rumor.

The comment section is baffling. Many of them seriously thought that Grant Gustin is a better actor and want WB to cast him as the Flash. That won't happen.

I don't know how reliable the sources of that article are but, I'm waiting for some reliable Trade sites to confirm this.

I think the script by Ezra and Morrison could be used as a script for sequels down the line, maybe they will offer Ezra some deal, where if he agrees to be in the movie by Daley and Goldstein (with their script) he can appear as Flash in the script by Morrison in the sequels.

I hope so. The rumored idea is too epic for a debut movie anyway.
It seems that WB isn't the one that wants Ezra out. Hopefully Ezra will soften his stance. And if he does, then I hope for a better working relationship with Daley and Goldstein too.

I'm waiting on one of the big trades to confirm this story, but I honestly wouldn't be upset about a recasting. It means there's a chance for a 2021 release! Also a Flashpoint/multiversal dark story just isn't something that should be done in the first film, save that for a sequel!

If he's out just like Ben Affleck then thats too bad for the Dceu. Two actors playing Batman, the Flash and Superman under 1 cinematic universe is not a good look especially the original actors were expected to return for more and it wasn't like they were playing War Machine, a 2nd tier who wouldn't be considered for a lead role. After Justice League, I thought they really should have worked with that they got, keep the actors, get a better creative team for the solos/a future Jl film and eventually lead up those solo films to a better Jl film, oh well. Batfleck, Ezra Flash, Henry and the actor that played Cyborg would never get the redemption that Gal and Jason got recently. I wish we were getting the Flash this week and getting the best reviews.

I've been reading conflicting things too. That "We Got This Covered" tends to post a lot of everything and I don't see them as that reliable a source. I don't know what to make of Mario F. Robles at Revenge of the Fanboy anymore either but he posted this recently:

Well at least The Flash
appeared in the credits of Shazam! this film is way overdue!
.

The tone of Shazam is what this movie should be going for, but with a bigger budget and FX. I don't mean light and breezy but focus on the character interactions.

Yes couldn't agree more, much like the first season of the Flash it ended with Barry actually deciding against changing the timeline so when the second season came around and he did it had a lot more weight.

Plus if we get a film where his mother is already dead and his father in jail we get to a build a connection to Barry's story, what he lost and how it has defined him.

Not just a zip in to the past that alters the entire timeline. I will admit I don't envy who has to write a Flash movie have heard multiple writers say he is a nightmare to write for.

Agreed Supes & Flash should be the nicest, most happy go lucky two on the team. Think you could easy make the case that Flash is one of if not the nicest people on the team. So many DC characters you can go dark with Flash isn't one of them.

I do hope that for Barry's solo it is in the vain of an origin because we have never seen Barry's origins played out on the big screen...yeah sure we have seen it on TV but never in film so of course I would want to see that but also see him go up against villains in his own universe as well but see just how he does with the spotlight being entirely on him
