The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

Why does he even have to be naked in this cover in the first place?

Such a shame Keaton has to be involved in this mess. Suppose there's nothing WB can do now.

Yes, I feel very bad for Keaton in all of this. Honestly can't believe it. I've been excited for this film and actually think it will be GOOD, despite this mess.

But for Keaton, it is a real shame. He stepped away from the role of Batman decades ago, had real fears of being type-cast in that kind of role, and now finally has decided to make his big return as the character and we don't even know how or where the movie will be released. It's wild.

Yeaaahhhh, that cover is quite absurd... even if everything going on with the film was fine, that cover is still very... strange...

Didn't realize the director drew the cover lol, wow. Good call on DC shelving that cover art...

I'm seeing articles Ezra Miller is done as The Flash after this film. Feels like a given... but so much damage is already done.

Sure, but all the stuff around him in 'Going Clear' is difficult to unhear or seen. COnsidering he is by most accounts the number 2 guy in that cult. Eh, but I give him this...He sure as hell does a great job at trying when one watches one of his flicks. Top Gun Maverick deserves a best picture nom. Heh.

I agree...the Cult stuff (Going Clear was great!) is problematic, but the reason he endures in Hollywood is that even the people who hate Scientology love him because of how good he is to every day people. He doesn't go around preaching or acting above others, he is the same dude he was before he got famous.

I was involved with Scientology for a fairly short period of time and got some reasonably useful tools from it. When they started wanting a LOT of money and started telling me what I had to do, I told them to take their program and stick it where the sun don't shine. I believe my quote was something along the lines of "You seem to be under the impression that you're paying me." They are basically liars, thieves, and control freaks. I'll watch Tom's movies, but if he's that high up in the structure, there's something about his character that's off.

I'd love for Batfleck to dawn the blue cape and cowl.
Looks dark blue to me.

I kinda thought it looked a little dark blue myself. They could always brighten it up in post production too. They should have plenty of time to do that...

Well I think part of it was Miscavidge (or however you spell that d-bags name) basically cultivated Cruise as the "Hollywood Moses" who was going to lead all of Hollywood to the cause. He deified him.

Its weird, because you would expect that someone who is that deep into a cult and is obviously that high up in the structure would have that leak out into his very public work life. Meanwhile everyone basically says he goes out of his way to be the nicest guy you will ever meet. That is a level of compartmentalization that Tiger Woods would be envious of. Most people don't survive the Kate Holmes saga and while he took a hit, the truth is he is bigger now than he was at his peak and despite the low hanging fruit no one has a bad thing to say about him beyond his religion. It is just so trippy...

I won't pretend to know the details or much about Tom's non-public facing persona, but the "higher ups" that I met in Scientology were, as you put it, d-bags......and I'm thinking that I may be impugning the reputation of d-bags everywhere. At least they have a legitimate function. My take is that if you are a higher up, there's a lot of smoke and I wouldn't personally trust you.

If your wife needs to escape with your child in the middle of the night then you're not a good guy.
Probably true. There are exceptions to every rule, but if that doesn't raise some red flags, I don't know what will.

If they had any sense (which of course they don't) they would pivot on Keaton's involvement, and funnel the time and money spent on reintroducing his Batman into a proper adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns.

This Flash movie is a disaster. They can't release a film starring a child groomer. It's that simple. Better they take the hit now, and salvage what work has been done into a project that will make money, than continue to poor cash and time into a movie that... again... can never come out now.

The Dark Knight Returns really wouldn't work with Keaton's Batman imo.

No, they should in no uncertain terms do that. That ranks up there with someone saying Cavill should play older Superman in Kingdom Come bad.

Yeah, its certainly a cluster.

As far as Keaton goes, one option at this point for Keaton's Batman, is to just release Batgirl as is with him as Batman and move forward from there in terms of his version of Batman.

The issue with that ,of course, is that there won't be an explanation for Keaton suddenly being Batman again.

However , audiences have shown they're willing to just go with the idea that Pattinson is Batman in one film, Phoenix is Joker in another film etc. if the film knocks it out of the park.

It's not a perfect solution by any means, and it has its set backs.
But facing reality, there really aren't going to be any perfect solutions .
Just alot of bad to worse solutions.

Given that this will be the first Batgirl film, they'll probably have leeway to set their own rules, in the eyes of the GA.
If Keaton happens to be the Batman of this film, then it's easier for audiences to just go with it.

If WB made Batgirl a more of a self contained film like Aquaman, WW( i.e. it's not totally reliant on other characters and events in the DCU), it could work.

Now that's assuming Batgirl is much more focused on the characters in Gotham , and not trying to bend over backwards to connect to the wider DCU.

They've got a year , so a better option may come along.
But looking at things now, I think that's one way to proceed.
