The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

not gonna lie, this looks better than expected.
hopefully, it's a nice sendoff / love letter to keaton's batman and the dceu at large.

never had a problem with ezra's flash, but it's just too bad their actions have tainted this project.

I don't know, I think I preferred the era of peaks and valleys over the plateau we've been in for awhile. I'd take those 3 or 4/10's if it meant we get 9/10's that set new standards for the genre, instead of the consistently average 6's & 7's of the MCU.

Pre-MCU we only had Spider-Man and X-Men as successful franchises. Everything else flopped. So that means the only 9/10's we were getting were...

X2
Spider-Man 2
Maaaaybe Spider-Man 1 and X-Men 1

Since the MCU launched, we've gotten...

Iron Man
Captain America First Avenger
The Avengers
Captain America Winter Soldier
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Avengers Infinity War
Avengers Endgame

I would put those up against any of the best pre-MCU "great" comic book movies from either Marvel or DC.

As for DC, before the MCU we had.... one successful Batman franchise reboot in Nolan during the X-Men/Spider-Man movie era. Nothing else. No Superman except that crappy Singer film. No Wonder Woman. No Aquaman. Nothing else. They couldn't get **** made.

Why would I want to go back to that when we live in an era where The Avengers characters, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam have all had successful movie franchises and the overall quality is so much better?

If we know how much better the quality of DC movies are now that how difficult would it be to make just a Flash movie that doesn’t have to do with Kryptonians or Batmen even if it’s in the same universe? Every Marvel brand name superhero has got at least one movie all to themselves so we can learn all about them. It doesn’t sound like it’s on Gunn’s agenda to do that going forward unfortunately.

Given Miller's antics it's probably good that this movie has more to offer than just Flash.

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, Michael Keaton returns in what will likely be great form and seeing/hearing him in the trailer definitely put a big smile on my face. On the other hand, I don't want to support a movie that that P.O.S. Ezra will benefit from.

Sidenote; is it just me or is Keaton's Batsuit ill-fitting? The cowl was definitely not fitting him properly in that close-up.

Yep, it’s this. Exactly this.

What still amazes me to this day is that they stuck with Ezra. Yeah, most of the crap Ezra did occurred after filming, but the choking incident happened before and WB just ignored it. And that was also after Ezra’s antics (if John Francis Daley is to be believed) caused at least one respected directing duo to leave the project.

And it’s not like Ezra was even GOOD or popular in their previous appearances as Barry, which consisted of a couple forgettable scenes in BvS, a cameo in Suicide Squad, and a main role in a JL bomb everyone hated. No one except members of Ezra’s sex cult would have given a crap if you recasted the role.

On the bright side, at least the next Flash film will have the novelty of using the Rogues (e.g., Reverse Flash, Captain Cold, Mirror Master, etc.) for the first time.

Based on what? He's said he wants every project to be able to stand on its own. We can only take his word for what it is rn.

Yeah they've left a lot of the basic fundamentals of a Flash movie off the table in favor of this big "event" pic, so they still have a lot to work with when they finally get around to making a proper Flash film.

not to defend their bad behaviour, but it seems like stuff like that happens a LOT in the industry, so that would hardly be a reason to axe them pre-all the other stuff. We hear so many stories about actors being a-holes on set. It’s extremely rude and entitled behaviour, but I guess it unfortunately comes with the territory.

I do think they did a lot of bad stuff, but it really sounds like they were spiralling and have some severe mental health issues. Hope they are really getting help and can come out the other side a bit better. It’s not excusing what they did, but it’s clear they are not (or were not) mentally well at that time.

Now someone like Armie Hammer? That is just a truly horrific person. That is someone I think is totally in control and is just a true POS that is irredeemable.

I do think it would have been unfair to everyone else involved to cancel this film because of what the lead did in their personal life, especially after the fact.
It’s an unfortunate situation, but there’s really not much else they could have done. I do think they should be recast, regardless of how this film is received.

The slate he announced doesn’t have anything Flash related. If this isn’t a Flash solo film Muschietti should just admit it. Just bugs me too much.

You're referring specifically to a Flash film? Idk bout that either though. Nothing Gunn has said points to the films not being about the core character that they revolve around. I'm just saying that thinking feels premature.
