The All Things Flash Thread. - Part 2

Are you talking about the one where Barry's in the suit, out in the desert during the finale? Because everything around Barry, including the suit, is CGI.

I guess I thought people were saying Barry's face looked CGI. I will say, I didn't notice the suit looking CGI. Probably need to start wearing my glasses lol.

Saw this today. Not bad but not great. Just kinda there. Effects were even worse than in the trailers. I generally don’t care usually but this was just so in your face bad that it was hard to focus. All the character arcs felt half baked as well.

I dunno, just kinda felt unfinished and like they just rushed it out to clear the way for the new DCU.

Saw it. liked it a lot. Loved some parts. I laughed out loud a lot, and was very moved by the end.

It's like beating a dead horse, but yeah, some of the effects and artistic choices are strange, to say the least. Some were even cringe, in my eyes. Now, the movie anyway, imo has a weird vibe and a strange mix of tone, with some physical comedy and drama among others, like it was modeled after the Barry Allen/ Ezra Miller personna. ( discounting his real life antics, i found him very good) Keaton/Bat was also very good, and Sasha Calle in a very small role was too. Liked a lot Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen. Her scene with Barry ( as a kid and as Ezra Miller) were great.

I looked at flaws, and i found them. But, the movie was very enjoyable to me. I plan to see it a second time.

I didn't even know Barry Allen existed as a kid. The JL/JLU show left its mark on my generation. John Stewart is the first character I think of when someone says Green Lantern, which I know is crazy to GL fans.
I’m old bc I knew Barry Allen from watching the live action Flash with John Wesley Shipp. It was cheesy but I loved that show.

To be more specific and on topic, I'd say "a kick in the nuts".

(sorry if this pun infringes the board rules, but it comes from the heart :funny: )

You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts.

Also, as much as I enjoyed the movie, can we take a moment to discuss how god awful Batfleck's cowl was? I don't recall being bothered by it during the chase scene, but everything post chase scene with WW and Flash was not....great. It just looked straight up weird.

I'm definitely in the same boat as some posters where I enjoyed it, despite the obvious flaws. I think I'm just so apathetic to this universe now that I'm finding more happiness in the little things lmao.

Hate they re-used that line.

Affleck's cowl looked like this, blue and somehow had more dumb wrinkles;

reading all the negative reviews about this (cgi uncanny valley nightmares lol)...is it still worth watching in theaters then?

i haven't watched it yet, and am trying my best to avoid spoilers.

or should i wait until streaming?

If you go in the movie knowing the CGI is rough, and don't mind Ezra Miller's portrayal of Barry/The Flash, and don't expect the greatest CBM ever, you may end up enjoying it. I was lukewarm to it, but a lot of people I know actually had a blast with it.

The review thread for the users here generally seems to be around 6-8 out of 10.

i do like miller as the flash, especially in the snyder cut.
i know it's a very divisive portrayal, but i like how odd their performance can be. haha.
their awkwardness is relatable to me. :funny:

So do we think that all of those early high scoring test screenings we’d been hearing about for the past year were BS and manufactured by WB?

Black Adam and Aquaman 2 each cost quite as much and the former had mixed to positive test screenings, while the latter is deemed unreleasable. Why focus on overhyping just The Flash? I genuinely think they believed they had a good movie that would attract the masses. Of course they purposely overdid it by making unrealistic claims, but they wouldn't release it two months before its actual date if they thought it was garbage. That's what is most shocking to me. That it seems they truly believed they had a winner there.

I guess then im trying to reconcile the extreme difference in reception between the test screenings and the early critic screenings at Cinemacon and such and how general audiences are receiving it. Whats the differenxe here?

Do we know the demographic of those test audiences?

Well unless im mistaken arent test screening supposed to be random average joes so that the studio could get a more or less accurate view at how a regular movieviewer would view their film?

Also this is from Vieweranon who was one of the ones reporting the high test screenings. This guy is probably THE most accurate and reliable scooper in the biz. His intel is always on the money.

Yep, it is fascinating. The second weekend drop is an all-timer. Is like a perfect storm of several factors. One of them is -I think- they overexposed the film. Too many early screenings, too many leaks, too much (doubtful) praise.

I know it is almost impossible to maintain secrets for movies in this day and age, so I can only imagine how great it would've been knowing nothing about it. Like, just promote it as a standalone Flash movie. Let people freak out in cinemas and spread the word.

Hopefully this will act as a reminder of how not to do things. They need to re-evaluate what makes people leave their homes to watch something. It's been a fascinating year in that regard.

This could've played a part on opening weekend, but it has next to nothing to do with the second week drop. The second week drop is because people just hated the movie.
