Well, I actually liked Superman Returns more than Man of Steel, so that "future direction" doesn't really say much, in my case.

If Superman Returns grossed more, we would have gotten a sequel with Brandon Routh.

However, in regards to Man of Steel, I think even it did less they still go forward with Batman vs. Superman. WB is desperate to stay in the CBM game.

I have no idea how BvS is gonna turn out, but I'll be going in with not-so-high expectations. Both seeing as MoS was incredibly dissapointing to me, but also because of how crammed the movie seems.

No it's okay to bring movies that are related in some ways to the matter at hand. Pacific Rim isn't in any way. It's not a sequel, it's not part of a franchise, it's not an adaptation and it's not a comic book movie. And as off today all sequel talks are nothing but empty talks.

As for the rest, forgive me but I'll favor insightful speculations over blinded fanboyism any day.

Blinded fanboyism? Back with the insults I see.
The bottom line is this, outside of Sony themselves no one knows Sony's back end and all people are offering up is speculation.
As for fanboyism, how is anyone being fanboy? No one is suggesting that BO take is anything other than disappointing but it isn't the total disaster that some people make it.

For any mods reading this, is it fair that the people defending the movie are courteous and respectful but have to read insults in return because frankly it's starting to get on my nerves.

More or less. There's blinded speculation driven by a clear agenda and insightful speculation based on facts and well known patterns. I have yet to see you bring in any kind of fact or even circumstantial evidences to back your "speculations" up and flesh out the discussion.

It has done very well OS. The problem is that the OS numbers make up way too much of the overall box office here.

I don't think we can say that the film has done very well overseas with the exception of the Chinese market. It's basically on par with the original in the United Kingdom, India, France, and Russia. But if you look at markets such as Japan, Brazil, Australia, etc., the sequel is quite a bit down from the original.

This is true, Doing well in China (margins don't favor the studio) isn't the best thing when everywhere else is actually falling. So really, we are looking at a downward trend everywhere but China. That is definitely a problem.
