It's kind of weird...

From my own personal perspective, I'm seeing no buzz what so ever for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There is nothing on my personal facebook or twitter feed about the movie. It's been out nearly a week and neither me or my friends are dying to see it. We think we might go on Friday night but it's like... ''Eh... We'll see''.

Thats strange as we've attended opening night for every Spider-Man movie since 2002.

All I seen and heard at the end of March was ''Wooo... Captain America tonight!!!'' but nothing for Spider-Man.

Franchise fatigue or is no one else experiencing this?

I am sort of experiencing that but it's probably due to people I know associating Cap 2 with TA and TASM2 with TASM.

That just means you and your friends are not interested in this movie. But that won't stop it from outgrossing Cap2. Target audience shift would be my guess.

TWS has already made 200M more WW than the first. It's just about to pass Iron-Man. Already a success in my books, everything from here on out is gravy. I'll be happy when TASM 2 hits that checkpoint.

I'm not feeling the overwhelming buzz either. Then again my family aren't crazy about this new incarnation of the series so that could just be my family. I think the opening weekend will be lower than expected if the reviews aren't there. Don't get me wrong I still think it will hit 85-90mil at worst but most see it touching 100mil so that would be seen as underperforming.

What do you think it's likely to get OW? I'm thinking MOS numbers possibly.

Anything over 100M is phenomenal. Anyone predicting higher is getting greedy, IMO.

Surely it needs to be doing more than that on the first weekend of May?

They get the IMAX plug pulled after only 2 weeks, which is pretty standard. Hyped that once it's out we'll get Godzilla in it's place. It'll be a solid IMAX month.

I don't think it's exactly franchise fatigue, my guess is that it lost momentum due to the reboot, many people who are not comic fans were connected with the original Trilogy, it'll take a while to bring it to its former glory.

I'm predicting 100mil not 65. I mean a film isn't going to hit record or near record numbers just because it has the first weekend of May. I could be all wrong and if I am fine but right now I'm not feeling a 120mil opening weekend.

I think America is going to love this movie. Merica' loves CGI filled action movies.

Same for me, too. I'm not seeing any huge hype or general buzz for this movie. Even here on these forums it's only the same handful of people who are really excited for it.

What you've mentioned reminded me of something that i heard somewhere from someone (yeah i don't exactly remember the details, but i remember the phrase).

"No one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American audience."

Just throwing it out there. :oldrazz:

The international audience loves CGI filled action films more than North America does.

I love how the same people keep trying to hammer this thread claiming there is no hype for this. :whatever:

I'll love to see the film proving them wrong in the upcoming days. It's not a merit of opinion, it's downright Debbie Downerism at its worst (or best). This will be gigantic domestically, and every single box office expert has said that TASM2 was off to a great start. Soon I know that one of the best superhero films of all time will literally come out swinging in its box office receipts.

Spider-Man is the most beloved superhero of all time, from children to old men like me. I loved Captain America, but anyone thinking this won't make an obscene amount of money at the box office is insane.

Here is my update box office prediction:

$650m OS $350m DOM

So you ain't even seen the movie yet and you're calling it one of the superhero films of all time. Heh now that's fanboyism at it's worst.

At least the peeps saying they ain't see much hype for the movie are speaking from their own experience. That includes moi. There ain't much hype for this movie. Not as much as there should be for a Spidey movie.

Okay, there is no hype for the film, the film sucks and we have dedicated super fans that hate this so much that go out of their way to tell us how much hopeless this film is, 24-7 since they've "watched" the film. Seems legit.

@AS

Some people have no excitement in their life, no fun and no enjoyment, so they have to bring down other people they can find who are happy and optimistic in nature, to make themselves feel better. I'm not trying to be mean, it just really is part of life. People like that are always going to be around. Unless you're a die-hard SM fan who didn't happen to enjoy the film, I don't see any reason to be in these threads posting as a GA-member who didn't like the film (I didn't care for any of the Thor films, but I don't go in there bringing down Thor fans, that would just be weird on my part), other than to bring people down to make yourself feel better about whatever's wrong with you. Don't let them get to you. Nothing wrong with being joyful and optimistic about this

No hype whatsoever. Totally not feeling it.

Unless you're a die-hard SM fan who didn't happen to enjoy the film, there's absolutely no reason to be in these threads posting as a GA-member who didn't like the film, other than to bring people down to make yourself feel better about whatever's wrong with you. Great post SM71, but don't worry, I can smell their true intentions from miles away. And no, they will never get me. :word:

I don't expect the Dom totals to budge from the last film. The expanded markets, especially in Asia, should push the ww totals past the $800 million mark regardless of the films quality (or perceived quality).

I predict $860 million grand total, with all the extra dough from the overseas market.

Apparently, just because they've seen the movie one time in one theater with one crowd, they know exactly the entire situation of this film.... honestly, not much of a difference between seeing this movie once and not even seeing it yet. Both camps can/can't speak to the hype for this film equally. Seeing it one time in theaters doesn't give you some wealth of knowledge that those waiting for the US release lack. The only thing it gives you is your own real personal opinion of the final product

And yeah AS, I know you're good  Just providing a little reinforcement ha
